...The Independence Day of Finland

Today is the 89th 6th of December since Finland became a county of its own, here is how it happened:

Once upon a time, Finland was inhabited by tribes of cave-men who sold fur to other cave-men, then the Swedish came and made it a part of their "empire".

When Napoleon got France under his command, he wanted to concure Brittain, to do that, he wanted to make it lose all its trade routes with the mainland Europe. The King of Sweden however did not agree with this, because he though Napoleon was Satan (true story), he continued supplying the Brittish.

Napoleon was a good ally with the Russian, so he told his friend, the Emperor of Russia, to attack Swedish lands in order to convince the king to cooperate. Russia attacked Finland, taking it over, but never attacking Sweden itself. An era of Opression begun.

Soon, the Finns got nationalistic and became crying for Independacy. It was made possible by the emerging of the Soviet Union. The leading figures of Finland travelled to Moscow and demanded Stalin, Lenin and the other important Soviet leaders to sign their declaration of independancy. They succeeded.

Finland was independant.

Later on the Soviets realised they wanted Finland back, so they tried to take it over. They failed. Twise.

Imporant side-info:

1. Even though New Zealand was the first country where Women could vote, Finland was the first one where they could be elected.
2. Finnish soldiers invented the "Molotov Cocktail"
3. Year after year, Finland is declared (by others) the least Corrupt country in the world.
4. A legend tells about two Finnish soldiers who, during the first war against the Soviets, saw two dozens of enemy troops, one of them said to the other: "Damn it, it'll take the entire day to bury all of those!"
5. Simo Häyhä, "The White Death", was the greatest sniper of all times (He was Finnish too). He never used a scope and was responsible for over 500 kills during his life.
6. Sweden and Russia suck (it's true), but Finland has not been infected even though its between them.

My school's alma mater is set to the tune of Finlandia, written by Jean Sibelius, famed for his music which celebrated Finnish legends and tales.
