Well looks like we will be getting a release date this Friday as well. The issues with Korea are stalling them more than anything.

NO ONE CARES
True.
Bolvar included.
Bolvar got the annual pass because his wife and kids wanted the shiny flying pony, and probably won't even bother to use the three D3 licenses he's due.
Bolvar, Jr., on the other hand, will probably clear all of Mists of Pandaria with his beta key...

Awesome :D.
I kind of wish they made as many cinematics for WoW patches like they do with Diablo 3 lol since its had so many full on cinematics but it has taken them a long time to come out so i will forgive them :D.
I have the pass and will be blasting through it and will be getting the Book of Cain to help catch up since back when i played the previous Diablo games i never actually got involved in the Lore too much.

So it was revealed.
It was pretty. And I liked the music.

I'll echo what I said in the VGA thread.
This is the first time we've seen multiple angels, correct?
Why are they all universally humanoid, especially considering the diversity of demons? According to Metzen at Blizzcon they're "light and sound" and only take the humanoid forms for humanity's benefits so why don't we see more crazy stuff in the opening scene?

I figure they're all humanoid to make them distinct from the demons. The style they used ruled out use of color to distinguish.

Also, that scene was Leah's dream, right? So it would make sense that she'd picture the angels to appear in a way she can relate to, or has heard them described.

Still. Metzen essentially said the "wings" of the Angels were their actual forms and the armor was just an illusion. The angels being big glowy tentacle beasts would be distinct enough from the demons.
And then I'd be able to pretend the High Heavens are lead by Blasto the Hanar Spectre.

But why does it have to be "order and conformity as envisioned by human beings"? An army of geometric prisms could be just as orderly, for instance. Never pick a fight with a dodecahedron.

Bah, bah I say! In the Old Testament Angels were downright weird. Multi headed beings and cartwheels covered in eyeballs and on fire.

My point being that this was the first time we've seen any angels aside from Tyrael, I believe. They could've ESTABLISHED THE RULES here.

That dream sequence was amazing. I love how they used the style of the 300 end credits for it. Sometimes I pop in the DVD just to watch those credits.

Quoting myself from the other thread:
As for the D3 cinematic, it was awful, seriously. Pretty much the least awesome of all the Blizzard cinematics, and too short. No wonder why the forums are raging at it (and the lack of a release date). When I watch any other cinematic, I'm left like "holy shit!". When I saw this I was like... "okay?".
Even the 2008 trailer felt more "epic" :S.

Humans in Sanctuary are the progeny of Angels, aren't they? Wouldn't it make sense that their form is similar to that of their ancestors?

It's the opening cinematic, you ninny. It doesn't have to be as epic as a trailer, because by the time you get to this in-game, you've already bought it. It's setting up the story you're about to be playing. Stop with your insanity, servant of the Old Ones.

WoW intros or just the SC2 intro are 100 times better than this... Even W3 intro is better, and it's pretty simple.
I get no chill running down my spine with this cinematic.

WC3 was the golden age of Blizzard cinematics, in my opinion. They were simple but powerful.
I rather liked this one, though. It seemed to me that it was returning to that style. As opposed to SC2's and Cata's, which seemed...off? Maybe too wordy? Too focused? I don't know. I liked this one.

This was returning the cinematics to their roots, as a story medium, not as a one-off "chill your spine" teaser. The semi-3d intro was the problem, it didn't transition well, so what you saw felt like too much of a throwback to old cinematics than something new and bright. Also, Cain's model is hitting the uncanny valley, making it markedly less realistic to our eyes than the reality (it being more realistic than ever).
Still, overall I feel like they went the right direction with it, story telling over spine tingling.

Starcraft II's intro was just a trailer they had already made and slapped voice-over onto. (I hated that; the voice robbed Tychus's betrayal of any surprise)

Still, it had EPIC all over it, while this one didn't.
Maybe if they put the battle at the end instead of the beginning, but I don't know.

I get no chill running down my spine with this cinematic. You only get one cinematic per expansion with WoW, two if you are lucky with a teaser, so more energy is put into that. But with D3, that is a small part of the 25 total minutes of cinematic footage throughout the game. I do prefer the 7 minute intro of D2 that shows Marius talking with "Tyreal" in an insane asylum that sets up his travel narrative and the next expansion. But this opening cinematic does what it sets out to do, namely to set up the gameplay narrative. Supposedly, Diablo 3 has learned what WoW is still trying to learn, namely to tell as much of the story in-game as possible as opposed to through out-of-game content. (Book of Cain not withstanding, though I think that is more their efforts to establish a coherent canon.)
Still, it had EPIC all over it, while this one didn't.
Maybe if they put the battle at the end instead of the beginning, but I don't know. How? Leah wakes up with a fright when Diablo enters the battle, which sets up...
