Finally got around to watching it. Frikkin' amazing. I can't wait.
I do wish Warcraft and Starcraft got some animation though, instead of just comics and novels. Kinda like what Bioware is doing with Mass Effect and Dragon Age (and I think EA also released some Dead Space films of dubious quality).

I could see this being the first step for them to create more animation projects... Even though i do enjoy Anime (which they seemed to be interested in) i do not think it would suit any of the three Universes and i would rather see more of this :D.

I'm not a huge fan of the wings on the other angels. I always loved the ribbons of light on Tyrael and kind of wish they were universal in the style. The animation quality was decent, but I didn't get a strict Diablo feel from it. Over all it was a nice introduction to some of the Archs.

It seems the ribbons are there when they are in movement but when stopped they take a more solid form

I liked it. Wish it was longer, wish Blizz would do some more animation for their other franchises.
I do wonder if Imperius isn't just "headed" on a dark path, but that he's already significantly different from the other angels. While the rest favor cooler colors (which we couldn't have figured out from the book of cain) Imperius is much warmer, and even has orange wings. Similarly, he's the only angel with a helmet rather than a hood... as if he has to hide something. And then Diablo said he's afraid that the other angels might find out what he "really is"- while that could speak of his personality... perhaps he's something else, something more than angel, already?

I made the same observations, also Imperius didnt want Diablo telling the others anything so he struck him down quickly

What if Diablo wants to use Imperius himself as a host with which to merge?

Imperius bled like an angel when Diablo hit him.
I imagine he's becoming twisted with his desires to vanquish the forces of Hell and anyone who would follow them.
He killed Diablo because he couldn't stand one of the prime evils being allowed to live, and his pride may have been hurt he needed the others help. He seems as a very pride driven character, to me.
That's besides the fact that Diablo goaded him into it, in the attempt to split the council's unity up.

The fact that this short was about Imperius hints that he'll play a big role in Diablo 3. He reminded me of Varian in a way, with his anger issues and all.
With Varian going on the path of redemption, I guess we'll see the other side of the coin with Imperius.
But I'd really like it if Blizzard could surprise us with something entirely new. I hope they have new stories to tell instead of just recycled ones.
Anyway, I liked the short. It's good to see other people appreciating it here. I saw so much hate on other sites that it's disturbing.

Well considering Diablo has a different body every time he's reincarnated and the fact that perhaps the short takes place sometime in the past I don't see a problem with that. :raisedbro

Also, since they were sieging hell, shouldn't they free Inarius?

Mephisto is dead, and broke the pact made with the Council i think they probably would want him back
I have some doubts trough
We know that the Prime evils have gone to the Abyss because of the soulstones, but the other lesser evils of pain and anguish are implied to have faced something similar but without having a soulstone

They gave him to Mephisto because they could gain some benefit from the demon at that time. Now it's different, and he's still Tyrael's brother.
Even Izual's betrayal helped the Prime Evils a lot, if they could turn Inarius, that's not gonna be something the Angels want to see.

I don't like the cinematics in general:
-Diablo looks ugly, looked better in 2008 trailer.
-Half the cinematics are non-action, the other half don't have enough action and are too short.
-The plots around Tyrael's and Diablo's new "style" feel pretty lame. I hope they're properly explained in-game.
-Stupid deaths and betrayals. Still, will wait for the game to see if they're well or not.

The cinematics are awesome. Period.
1. Ehh, considering he's one of the lords of Hell, I don't think the idea the creators got in their heads when coming up with concepts for Diablo was ever to make him "pretty". And considering he's in a female body, he still manages to look badass.
2. May I remind you of the Diablo 2 cinematics? They didn't have all that much action in them too, in fact one of them consists almost entiely of 2 people talking for 3 minutes, yet they kicked ass back in the day.
3. Tyrael and Diablo's new images are awesome!
4. What exactly are you referring to? Deckard Cain's death? The dude was like 100, did you expect him to live forever? Also, what are you basing your opinion they're "stupid" on? The cinematics alone?
Seriously, Lon, give the game a chance. I don't think your criticism is valid, considering your opinion is based solely on the cinematics - the one department that the Blizzard guys, despite all the hate they get for various aspects of their games, have not only improved but excelled at to perfection over the years.

Ah saving Leah would make sense since it did seem pretty tragic what occurred to her.
The Black Soulstone wasn't destroyed either by the looks of it.

When I speak about Diablo sucking, I mean the 3D model. In 2008 he/she looked badass, he looks cheap now.
Just watch it by yourself: http://youtu.be/EgbUSsblCSQ?t=1m43s
As for the other things, I hate:
Herp derp I can become human by just stripping off my wings! Diablo, whose soulstone was destroyed, and Duriel, who wasn't ever imprisoned, are all inside the black soulstone for some reason! Adria is a betrayer, and probably the companion of Magda who helped her take control of the Coven, so, why did she send Leah with Cain?

Ehh... Diablo looks the same back then and now?
Also, an angel being stripped of their powers after falling from grace because of their actions/beliefs and being cast out isn't a new cocept, you should know that. Even for the Diablo setting that's not a precedent. I'd imagine the progenitors of the human race became the first humans themselves when they left their respective domains. There's absolutely nothing stupid about Tyrael becoming mortal. Also, his wings and powers were taken away from him. By force. I'm guessing there was some magic involved too. It's not like one day Tyrael woke up and said to himself "Hey I don't want to be an Archangel anymore, I wanna be a real boy. All I have to do is just take these wings off". Seriously, Lon, you're grasping at straws to make your argument.
As for the rest, I don't know. I have to play the game to see how those play out, I guess.

@Lon
Don't judge the entire story on a few cinematics. We have absolutely no idea what will happen during the actual game, which is where most of the story will be told, obviously.
You've just seen about 5 to 10% of the story. I'm sure playing through the game will fill in a lot of gaps.
As for Diablo's look in 2008. It's the same as now. I have no idea what you were watching there.
