I got WC3 last week and I think Ill try to make a campaign that retells the story of WoW and gives all the events and villain deaths in a more lorewise way.

Any ideas?

Make something easier first, it's a large undertaking, you'd have to learn how to use the program well first.

Find a group, too. Maybe go to the hiveworkshop.com to find other people.

I would love to help, although I'm a total weirdo who always thinks ahead a million years about great projects I will do and then doesn't take the first step, which is doing SOMETHING other than brainstorming.

A campaign, you say?

Starting from scratch, you say?

With no fucking ideas of how to open the editor, you say?

...

Focus on making simple things, and when you manage to understand the entire editor, or the most important parts of it, try to make the campaign.

Tip from a veteran mapmaker.

I very much doubt you are capable of making a map after having Wc3 for a week. I've had it for a great span of years and I'm still learning every time I make something.

a) Its in the throught Process

b) Where can I find a good step-by-stem tutorial to making a map?

What do you mean by "throught"? Through or thought?

And I have WC3 since long before you, yet it is still too difficult and needs too much effort for me. You, as one person, will never do this.

Well, I'd suggest you just open other maps and check out the data. Learn by seeing for starters.

The aforementioned site, has some tips and tutorials you might want to check. Just look and search in the forum (there are useful sticked threads all over the place in each subforum), tutorials, etc.

However after a time, i ventured to download the Dwarf Campaign. I used to tweak on the engiens behind it (to understand basic triggers, mainly).

Some useful stuff, for example:

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/f267/those-just-beginning-terrain-39423/ (][/url)
[url]http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/f267/ultimate-terraining-map-3-0-a-45316/
http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/f267/legendary-terrains-65435/

I put only terrain related subjects because that is usually what, I believe, one usually starts to play with.

But the road to a great map would probably start with a good planning and learning first. And although it is true that many people have stopped trying (myself included), the WC3 editor continues to be a wonderful tool, and some really dedicated people have made wonders with it.

You may not suceed at the first, third or eleven time. But if you keep learning and struggling, and you develop well your strategies and planning, you will eventually create or participate in something dign of awe, admiration and support...

... or die of old age. Who knows.

The last sentence may seem ironic, but hides some truth on it - a hard but real lesson: it takes a lot of hours and time and the results may not be always of your liking. You would need much patience, hard-work and specially self-control, lest you end spending too much of your day on it in an unhealthy manner.

In other words, it can be and it is fun, but measuring oneself is the path I recomend to really live it.

Besides, some of the best ideas can find their origin on seemingly unrelated situations of life (like playing with an axe at 5:00 a.m. or talking to a girl...).

That could be said of many other things, actually.

Whaaat!?

*Punchs Tim*

Of course you can, damnit! Giving up won't make a shit!

...

Seriously, is not that hard. Only need time. For example, those flying doodas sucks like hell, just because they are so unstable if you try to move them from their place, and you have to turn and elevate them again.

All the remaining stuff are effects and imported models.

Hard work ain't impossible work.

PS: Best if I don't show you extra stuff... like these:

PS2: Oh shit I showed you, xDDD. (And i didn't found the flying city, that was really awesome, a flying city, like it was in a flying rock! It rocked, of course...)

Edit: Oh, hell, I couldn't resist to this video!

Cry, for the awesomeness of that is the awesomeness of something we won't make never... just because it took hundreds of hours!

Edit2: Found it! (+ extra)

Someone here still want to make maps? I - guess - YES.

What beautiful works of art. The people who made those are worthy of receiving jobs by Blizzard. They should create official campaigns.

I meant thought.

Also its not impossible. Nothing is its just very hard. At least you tried to make this once. You quit cuz not a lot of ppl helped you well at least I got some advice

Third I will remove a couple of retcons(Ie: Eredar=Dranei retcon) in this map making it a old lore based map.

Then it would be no longer lore. People, learn finally that when Blizz' says somethings, it is a lore, because METZEN IS A GODDAMN GOD THERE! His word is truth on Azeroth. When he retcons something, we are supposed to pretend it was always this way. Or stick to our personal canon.

Its fandom okay? My campaign is fandom, and it dosent follows the retconned lore.

You don't need to choose between 1 of the 2 versions:

Use them both.

Uh, and, anyway, I have seen worse fandoms. Trust me.

And I already thought there is someone who really wants WoW's lore replayed in WC3. That'd make you unique, not just another fandom.

Fanon. You mean fanon.

Fandom means "a fan following". Fanon means "a fan theory which is so popular it's as good as canon to them."
