A distance voice : YOU HAVE FAILED ME, VARIMATHRAS!

Varimathras: A thousand-thousand pardons, Master! I will deal with these intruders myself!

The "Master" is Sargeras?

I have always wonder whos voice that was. I assumed it was Mal'ganis (Not it makes sense now, at the time this quest came out did), Kil'jaeden, or Yogg-Saron.

Sargeras? Na, to soon for his time to return to the conflict. The Maelstorm expansion would fit with him better. The tomb, eye, body etc etc etc...

Sargeras. Kil'Jaeden. Some heretofore unknown entity. Could theoretically be any one of them, though the Burning Legion troops that are invading Undercity as part of the overthrow certainly suggest that at the very least, it's pretty much definitely someone highly placed in the Legion. Distasteful as it is, we can't 100% rule out even Tichondrius. Those Dreadlords these days are mighty good at pressing the "reset" button and coming back whenever we think they're dead.

It definitely points toward the Burning Legion. In a way, the whole Varimathras betrayal comes across as a reminder that though we defeated them at the Sunwell Plateau, the Burning Legion is still very much at large and a threat, and there could be any number of other such plots in the works under our noses even as we turn our eyes to local dangers like the Old Gods and the Lich King.

Since it's pretty clear at this point that Balnazzar and Varimathras were playing the Scarlet Crusade and Forsaken against each other and the Scourge while still serving the Legion, it wouldn't be entirely surprising if even Mal'ganis was working on some plan to bring their masters to Azeroth. Seems like he couldn't have honestly expected to besiege and crush Icecrown with only the shattered remnants of the Scarlet Onslaught that he had under his command. With all of those shadowy summoners that he had casting spells and rune circles under Onslaught Harbor, he might have even been planning something like Varimathras was doing in Undercity and intended to bring the Legion to the Azeroth, in a place from which the demons could march directly against the Lich King's citadel.

Did Blizzard say that Kil'jeaden still alive?

Kil'jaeden, to be simply to put it is Kil'jaeden been banished by the powers of the Sunwell in the Twisting Nether, not dead, waiting to bring his vengeance on Azeroth once again. Its is how I like to view it. Its the same thing with Sargeras was in WOTA by the collapsing portal in the Well of Eternity 10,000 years ago, if you done your research. Its a cycle thats repeating its self.

They never implied he died in the first place.

The Dreadlords seem to have a sort of camaraderie or at least some sort of "professional" respect with each other like the Tichondrius/Annetheron/Mephistroph group or even the Balnazzar/Deteroch/Varimathras group, (Varimathras being the exception) so that figure seems to convey more authority than a Dreadlord would usualy give and since the Nathrezim were Kil´jaeden´s slice of the Burning Legion (Archimonde had the Doom Guards and Pit Lords), it´s probably him.

It´s a little too soon for Sargeras to shout in outrage at his pawns failures.

Mephisroth?

First, Mephistroth. Second, I doubt Blizz' remembers him anyway.

My bet: Sargeras, Kil'jaeden or Tichondrius.

If they remembered Admiral Westwind from a Scarlet Monastery statue I wouldnt be suprised if Mephistroth came back.

I would really like to see some Tothrezim soon.

I would like to see the Tothrezim too, but I fear they are just the RPG fluff.
And with Westwind, I guess it was like "hey, but who shall Mal'ganis possess?" "Some Scarlet" "Doh, dunno any Scarlets" "There are some in SM. Pick one".

Yeah but they picked the right Scarlet with the right background.

And I doubt we will see the Tothrezim since they function in the Legion as been now taken by other demons.

Well, actually no. They weren't part of the Legion, just a bunch of craftsmen whose masterwork infernals were way more powerful then the regular kind the Legion uses and so the demonlords frequently made deals with them.

Well they weren't members of the Legion perse but they did filled a role for it. They were the ones that made the infernals among other constructs now that role is filled by the Mo'arg.

Unless I'm mistaken, I think they weren't the creators of every infernal, just that their infernals were infinitely better.

As far I know the Mo'arg didn't existed at that time, so they were the creators and supliers of infernals. Don't get me wrong I loved their story and desgin but I think Blizzard will probably scrap them.

Yes...sir ...Illidan killed him

Arthas killed Mal'ganis.
Varimathras killed Balnazzar.

Do you see what the guy was trying to imply? ;)

It's either Kil'Jaden or Sargeras.

For me, Tichondrius ordering Varimathras around wouldn't make sense. A Dreadlord won't take orders from its own kind.

Another Dreadlord, Kil'jaeden or Sargeras. Either one of those.

Obviously, they do, or they wouldn't have any semblance of cooperation or even need a leader or a ruling council, which they have (or had).
