Around the time that the Blood Elves were announced as the new Horde race for the Burning Crusade, I had noticed (and posted here) that the Wikipedia article for the High/Blood Elves had been changed a few days beforehand. As we have neared E3, I have been checking Wikipedia periodically to see if there have been any changes to racial entries that might precipitate the upcoming Alliance race announcement.*

*I am well aware that, first, Wikipedia is not an official source, and that, second, any user can alter information. Take this with a grain of salt.

Today I found this in the Furbolg entry, when it wasn't present EDIT: two weeks ago (was edited on the 13th of last week): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Races_in_the_Warcraft_universe#Furbolg

Furbolgs are ursine humanoids. They reside in tribes, and were peaceful allies of the Night Elves until the coming of the Burning Legion, when many were affected by the corruption they brought and turned evil. The Timbermaw tribe were supposedly the only tribe to escape the corruption. Their tribe now has been forced into hostility due to an increasing show of violence towards them as they are mistaken for corrupted. Around 10,000 years before Warcraft: Orcs and Humans the Furbolg race fought the Burning Legion alongside the Night Elves, Tauren and Earthen. The Ursa Warriors are the Furbolg elites. Until recently the furbolg were believed to be merely a primative race of ursines, but they have lately been exhibiting great intelligence. Soon after, a leader arose, a mighty furbolg named Shalme. Shalme soon led the peaceful furbolgs of Timbermaw Hold on a campaign against the remaining furbolg clans, which had been corrupted by the Burning Legion. He swayed almost all of the furbolg clans to his side and created a formidable force. Only a single furbolg clan remained and Shalme let them live because they were to be destroyed by the warsong outriders. Shalme led his people to the lands near the shores of Auberdine and settled there, his people finally free of the Burning Legion's grasp. They soon built a wonderful kingdom small and managable. Led by the High Chief Shalme the furbolgs are now a prosperous peoples with great technology and a wonderful friendship towards both the Horde and the Alliance. The now mighty furbolg armies are ready to defend their great kingdom down to the last person and will never be corrupted by the ties of the demonics ever again.

(emphasis mine)

Now, I don't recall seeing any of this in the game, especially the bit about Chieftain Shalme. Has anyone seen this before, in some sort of fanfiction, or might we actually be seeing the first bit of info on the new Alliance race?

Clarity in this matter would, of course, be appreciated.

i googled "shalme furbolg" and wikipedia was the only site found. I believe this to be bullshyte. The corrupted Furbolgs are basically mad, how could they be possibly converted back to normal ones? See, they are corrupted, it's not like if he conquers the tribes they're gonna submit. The chief is probably made up by whoever wrote the artcle too. And why would they move to Darkshore anyway? I don't see a reason why'd he abandon Timbermaw hold. Oh and look at the structure of the writing anyway. The switch between the normal and bold writing in your quote.... "The Ursa Warriors are the Furbolg elites. Until recently the furbolg were believed to be merely a primative race of ursines, but they have lately been exhibiting great intelligence. Wowwiki SUCKS!!!!

Not WoWwiki, but Wikipedia. Like I said in the disclaimer, though, I understand that wikis are modifiable by anyone, and that Wikipedia does not represent an official Blizzard source.

If you're referring to the error in dates, yes, I did make a mistake there. I was under the belief that my last visit to that particular page was last week; however, if it was last edited on 4/13/06, then it was the week before that. Apologies. I have edited the original version.

To clarify, I am not trolling, neither am I seeking to promote a particular theory of mine (frankly, I lost interest in the new Alliance race months ago; as a WC2 fan, I'd have preferred Quel'dorei for the Alliance and Ogres for the Horde). All I am seeking is information on this "Chieftain Shalme", and if anyone has ever heard of him before.

As I am sure that we all apprieciate your insight, wiki translates to ignorance 100% of the time. I think the consensus, HERE, is that the Dreanei are going to be the most logical for the next playable race. Now, cease with the Furbolg notions before we brand you as Heretic!

Just when I thought there was no more room in wowwiki for retarded theories and fanfic presented as fact.... *sigh*

Then the consensus is that this is just fanfic? I haven't read any of the latest (post-WoW RPG) books, so I did not know if this was some character that had been mentioned in a sourcebook or the latest novel.

Thank you all for the clarification.

Got an idea ... if the furblogs will be the new race ... they could potentially have the world tree as the starting location since we now got the caverns of time and can have all the evil juice shit there. Would help on the lack of starting location that the next race will excperience. Any of you RPG book guys got any info about the world tree region?

( offcourse I belive Draenei just a "if" idea. )
