Definitions of Undead

I think this has come up on WoWWiki several times also. How many definitions does the term "undead" have? For example, some users were saying on here that death knights are not all "undead", but they are "undead". I am not sure how that works on the second part. Also some users have said that characters can become undead without dying? The definitions I have seen so far that make sense, mostly, are "race = undead" because Blizzard didn't want to use "race = forsaken" on the playable character screen for some reason, "creature type = undead" found in both the RPG and WoW — except for the forsaken in WoW who were changed to humanoid, and "status = undead" when speaking about someone's current status like "deceased" or "killable".

I was trying to ask in a more general way. Like if someone wanted to know the race, creature type, and status of a character, does it sound right if you were to say a character was:

Race = Undead
Creature type = Undead
Status = Undead

or not? It sounds like too many "Undead" terms to me. For example, Sylvanas is said to be Race = Undead (which is a creature type also), Creature type = Humanoid (for either game mechanic reasons or because they are more "alive" than "undead"), and Status = Undead (On WoWWiki). So why is 1.) Undead a race when it is a creature type 2.) Sylvanas a Humanoid when she is obviously Undead 3.) Status is Undead when we already know she is Undead?

Let's fix that, using forsaken as the example:

Race = Undead Human
Creature type = Undead
Status = Alive/Deceased/Killable
