http://code.google.com/p/wowmodelviewer/ - Google Code page for current WotLK-supported versions
-------------------------------------------
Both of these programs are pretty awesome. They are not perfect and there are some errors in some cases (i.e. a few models in the model viewer do not display textures correctly, but most are right) but they are both pretty nice.
If you've checked out the map viewer before, he recently updated to a *much* better version. The lighting and particle effects for example are a lot more accurate than before. Be sure to check out Azshara Crater.. new battleground that looks close to finished, though obviously something is keeping it from being released (though Arathi Basin, which IS getting released next patch, looks no where near complete.. a lot of textures seem missing and stuff).
The model viewer is based off MyWarCraftStudio but unlike that buggy and crappy program (seriously, almost no models displayed correct textures and most had a ton of animation frames displayed at once.. so for example, you'd see the model's dead body over their normal pose or something) this one is actually pretty damn good. Like I said, a few models still missing textures (i.e. Sea Giants) and there are a few errors (harpies have a wierd feather effect flying off them) but otherwise quite nice. You can also get into the race models and basically design something akin to the character chooser in WoW (though you can also remove underwear *snicker*). It also has a nice list of items that you can stick on the character to try out different stuff like say, how the Warlock set pieces would look on a Night Elf :) haha..

I think I'll stick with black text for the purpose of this forum ^_^.
This looks like fun! I hope it's not too hard to use.....I'll DL it now :).
EDIT: Wow, they're both awesome! It just blew my mind to see the world of warcraft from a whole new perspective (hooray for obscure wow trailer quotes)! The model viewer is insanely fun :). I haven't seen ragnaros yet, and when I saw him in the model viewer, I was just: "...........wow..........."

Storm Crow was origionaly planned as a Druid Shapeshift in Beta back when they wore mail, but then mail was taken away becuase Birds cannot wear Heavy armor. The the Bird was taken away and all the beta Druids started complaining about now being able to use mail anymore with the main reason they couldn't gone.

Storm Crows are used for a quest in Teldrassil. You have to rescue a bunch of Druids of the Talon and then when you do they morph into crows and fly off. That's the only place I've seen em tho.

Does any know if there is a program that can make maps on the fly? WoW map viewer only allows you to see the "live" mpq files and not the test one. And it would be nice to have an updated map of the game (a map that uses all layers of the map you see in your radar).
Kakwakas

Whats TOS ?
Terms of Service. The big wall of text they give you that you clicked "Agree" to. =p
Anyway, I dunno why I hadn't thought of this until now, but you should probably put a decent MPQ viewer/editor (http://www.wc3sear.ch/?p=Tools&ID=24) in this topic. That's the one I use there... It works great.
Warlock

I like WinMPQ a lot better: http://shadowflare.gameproc.com/
Though the one I'm using is a modified version that fixes a bug when opening Patch.MPQ (overflow due to the size of the MPQ):
http://skyward.fatal.ru/wmpq_update.html
*But* going back to the previous page I think he actually did finally fix that bug in the official version so I may get that again.
But back on topic, I don't know. MPQ viewers are pretty easy to find. The BLP Viewer is not so easy (though I wish there was a better version, the one I have is "ok" but not great.. plus Avast! keeps thinking the decode dll is a trojan when it's not). But I dunno. Maybe once I get more stuff up on the website I'll have a files section for this stuff.
P.S. - The Terms of Use (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/termsofuse.shtml). The closest I saw to these things being illegal was a statement about mining data from the game. Which isn't exactly what this is, and technically makes Thottbot and Allakhazam illegal. So chew on that :) Maybe I missed it but I don't think so. As long as you are not "modding" the game (and I think by game they exclude the UI since that is quite moddable) it seems like you are cool.

Wow, the overflow bug's finally gone...that's a relief. It was royally screwing up my computer whenever I tried to parse the files for .mpq stuff. (Which reminds me, any of you have the .mpq's for Ahn'qiraj yet?)

Stumbled on this today. It's great. You extract it over your old model viewer and it fixes a lot of bugs plus adds some new features. A lot of the models that were textureless before are fixed (i.e. Sea Giants), you can load models from the Test Realm Patch MPQ from this, plus there is just a lot of extra features. I even believe he beefed up the item list:

Reading through the comments on that page, I think this is actually from the original author. What it appears to be is an "in development" version of the editor, whereas the other page is for full releases. That being said, it has so many fixes and updates since the last full update (September!) that it's definately worth getting. There are a few random crashes I've noticed but otherwise everything else works generally better. Still some bugs with certain models, but these were already bugged before so it's nothing new (i.e. Storm Crow still lacks a texture for example, but it always did).

I'm having problems uploading the old pictures of C'thun (or Kathune as the model editor called them.)
Anyone else missing a few models...or have they moved several out?
(Edit: Nevermind...I just hadn't tacked on the test patch. )
(Edit2: Interestingly enough, the model for the Twin Emperor has all the emotes/motions of Night Elves...try it out. Now there are two races who dance like Michael Jackson.
Also, there's an odd falling emote for Ent (or Treant) models. Not sure why the devs included that one, especially when most other models don't carry it. And no, i'm not insinuating they're the new race, it's just an oddity.)

Look under World/Kalimdor/Timbermaw/Active. There is a model wooden door...meaning we may begin to see more about the Timbermaw Hold in the future. Hopefully it will be an instance, if not at least a new neutral town.

Oh if you want cool stuff there are still Alpha models in there:
World/Azeroth/Elwynn/Buildings/
-> Blacksmith, Distillery, Goldmine (the doors), Guard/Watch Tower, Stormwind Entrance
World/Azeroth/Duskwood/Buildings/
-> Ogre Mound (cool looking), GypsyWagon (I think this is in the game but this one you can see inside of)
World/Azeroth/Westfall/Buildings/
-> Church
World/Azeroth/Westfall/PassiveDoodads/
->Aquaduct, Harem Pillows, etc
World/Azeroth/Stranglethorn/Buildings/
-> Oil Rig (just like war 2!), Troll Watch Tower (one of these is in Redridge though), RuneStoneMoss
And there are some more I don't have time to look for. Trudge around there sometime, there is cool stuff. I think the Elwynn Distillery was recently used for the Winter Viel Mistletoe stuff too.

I remember looking through the Oil Rig with especial humor, but the Timbermaw door's being in the active list means quite a bit. It signals that Blizzard didn't just add Timbermaw Hold at launch and forget about it (much like Gilneas). Instead we may see its future use, or at least we may see more about the Timbermaw tribe than simple faction rewards.

Just a lil sidenote... Using those will break your TOS, but there's no way they can really tell. Go check out Dev Island! =p

Nice try. But I sense you carry the taint of the Scourge. Prepare to enter the twisting nether!

Are all these Cata models I'm seeing captured in private/reprogrammed model viewers, or is there a release I'm missing here?
All the ones on the site are dated.

Dunno, the original team is gone, I think.
But whatever, I believed Blizzard closed the site. Good to see it back :).

Blizzard has never gone after WMV. WMV itself is now programmed by chuanhsing and a couple others and is kept working pretty well. Due to Blizzards new MPQ format though the only way to load a model that isn't in the art MPQ is to extract the model from the patch MPQ and then add it into the art MPQ (obviously you want to backup the MPQ you're adding to so you can switch back when you go to play).

Dunno what the whole deal with it shutting down was. I've been using it since TBC, and I've never seen the site down!
I must have great timing.

I know it's unnofficial, my inquiries were more into the availability of a Cataclysm-compatible version of the program. :P
Anyway, your link was just what I was looking for! Thank you very much! <3
EDIT #2: Anyone got a link to an up-to-date itemlist?

You can use the r490 (DEV WORK) with the live version of WoW. I use it and I do not have beta. Worgen, Goblin, new models and many of the new items are in it (you'll have to use the "Discovery Item" feature).

I would, if it didn't keep crashing saying there is an error every time I try and look at a model

I use Machinima Studio (http://www.machinimadev.com/products/) now more than WoW Model Viewer. They have most of the same features, and can also be used together.. Machinima Studio can save and upload WoW Model Viewer character files.

Too bad there isn't a Mac version.
Hello guys, I'm new here, but I have been reading these forums for some time.
You post some very cool stuff.
The reason why I am posting, is because I have downloaded the PTR and want to see the new stuff in WMV. Most of the new stuff is working fine, however I can't seem to find the textures of the new PVP sets. The shoulder and helm models work fine, but the chest/legg/gloves textures are hard to find, if not impossible.
Does anyone know under what name I can find them or if I need to do something special before I can see them?

Or just go to my topic. It's impossible to clear up everything. The dungeon maps weren't distorted or grainy at all and are easy to make out. The text is small but that's as simple as load it up in PS or maybe even paint and covering the old text and putting new text in.

Normally, WMV works fine for me. However, when I try to load .wmo files, the thing crashes all the time. Any solutions?

Don't use WMV for WMO files. Go get Machinima Studio.
