Do you guys play on roleplaying servers? What kind of characters do you play? What do you think of the current roleplaying sever condition?

Ill maybe write down and post Kerrahs (Orc Rogue) story later on.

Personally I can not get interested in a full roleplaying server.

The reason? Well I have two bigs ones.

I don't know why, but everyone seems to "Cyber" on roleplaying servers, it just got out of hand when as a level 10, I would run into Ironforge and find a "/s Elffy slowly tenderly licks the *blank" of Hornydude" while walking through the Mystic Quarter near one of the empty buildings.

Also, as a "LORE FANATIC" I get really, REALLY peeved when people make stories that are so stupid in the context of WarCraft that I feel like I want to vomit. The minute I created a RP character, I saw a guild announcement called the "Sons of the Neverine" as in, the main character of Morrowind. They even role played how he would return and save the "dark elves" from slavery or some nonsense. At the time I was roleplaying a rookie Scarlet Crusader that was sent to Stormwind to oversee the progress of the Scarlet Ambassador and check if anyone was worthy of recruitment. I ended up acting like a xenophobic crusader to a few people, when a guy told me his story.

He came from the mountains of oraka, where his parents were killed by the evil Blufurmoras or something stupid like that. It floored me, I felt like slapping the guy because it was like he was making up everthing on the fly. I thought he was joking at first, but he was serious.

I was so floored after finding almost no one actually roleplaying WarCraft, and all the others Cybering all the time, that I left.

I would rather have ignorant people not trying to roleplay, then ignorant people making up any crap they can imagine in their head and think it fits as a personal storyline in the WarCraft setting.

Ditto on all of that. I would go crazy if I had to speak in character the entire time. Not to mention all the horrible lore mistakes I'd hear (and you can't even debate it without doing some roleplaying retarded "Well sir you are wrongist in thine assumption!" crap). I'd rather just tell people "LFG Stratholme" than "Looking for four noble adventures to venture forth into the hauntingly dangerous depths of the once proud city of Stratholme - now corrupted and destroyed by the foul undead Scourge!". It gets tiresome :P

Plus I like to play female characters (they are pretty - shut up :P) and it's too annoying to roleplay an opposite gender :D Not to mention I would feel like a wierdo :p

I have to agree, the female thing never bothered me though, I would just roleplay them as sort of "tomboys" but man would the /whistles and the /w wanna cyber? requests for get old.

My other issue with roleplayer servers that I almost forgot about. People seem to make up the most stupid junk, but when someone tries something that fits in WarCraft but is a little "off the wall" and is not talking in ole english or some crap, he gets badmouthed and they try to push him off the server. An example was a story I read about a guy who started a Gnome character with a silly name like Dextor McWimblebottom or something equally goofy, who was actually insane and ran around IF with his pants off talking with his pet squirrel. Thats funny and does not seem far fetched from the zany feeling of WarCraft, more so when a Gnome is involved.

But since the Gnome had his pants off and didn't say "Thou salt not go any further! for art thou smite the evil heathen!" people said he was ruining their roleplaying.

ScytheRexx

P.S. I know what the Gnome said is true, as I did a smilar thing. I made a Night Elf Druid as my second character, he was named Panthaar (Cheezy, I know, but I wanted him to be a feral shifter and I wanted to make it sort of off the wall).

My story behind him, was that he couldn't fall asleep for the 10,000 years that the Druids were sleeping, thus he went a little whacky talking to himself in the spirit dens. He talked in riddles and sometimes would do random things like think his morning breakfast was going to try and eat him instead.

People told me I was ruining their roleplaying, not only because my english was not on par, but also because I was not acting like a conventional hero. Someone even got pissed that mentioned the word "cereal" for some reason, I still don't understand what that was about.

I have never seen that on Defias Brotherhood o_o

But then again, the only RP I ever saw there was in Sen'jin, when I was level 9.

The thing is that 95% of the people don´t know is that in Warcraft, people don´t talk in "Ye Olde English" like some medieval convention retard 24/7.

I roleplay at a pretty continous level, and just ignore the idiots whos'e backstory makes no sense, or at least try to correct the ones who actaully want to make sure their backstroy is right (at least SOME people have common sense).

As for the cyber thing, I have yet to come across that, but I have only begun my alt on the Twisting Nether realm, and will be transferring my main there soon. So maybe I'll finally see what you all are talking about, but I hope not.

Kerrah

Never met any cybering during my 32 levels of Roleplaying, but i played Horde on the other hand :P

The "Ye Olde English" thing is annoying, but not half as annoying as people who are "Billidan", Illidans only brother (i've seen that), Kaina, Jaina's illigimate daughter (that too), or Karthas, Arthas' cousin (that one i made up).

I had those 32 levels of fun with my rogue, but then my only good RP-friend stopped and i lost my vigor for it.

I tryed an Orc Hunter and had a decent story with him. But like all my alts I went back to playing my Paladin within 3 days.

And they don't even talk in Ye Olde English in Warcraft in the first place, those idiots.

I wanted to say that everyones experiance may be different, based on many factors. I am only telling my experiance, and why I am not fond of RP servers.

I am sure not every server, all the time, has cybering, but at the release when I tried it, it was a little out of hand on the server I played on. I did play on Alliance however, and I am sure it is probably a bit worst then Horde, and maybe by now it has died down, I just never understood the draw, and watching a NE and a Gnome try say dirty things to eachother will be me nightmares till I die.

I really tried to ignore people with stupid incorrect stories, or even try to correct them (or RP that I think they are insane and spread it around) but it go on my nerves so much that I stopped enjoying it.

I might get into it agian someday, but I will be called the "Ye Ole Slapper!" and slap anyone I see trying to talk in old english, this is not some renn fair.

Ya, I was always annoyed by that also, but I tried to let it go if they do it tastefully. I saw one guy starting a Knights of the Silver Hand guild, and he called himself something like Joena Lightbringer, the only child of Uther Lightbringer.

At least he knew something about history, so I gave him credit for that. He also was not calling himself "Buther" or something. I just didn't like that he was trying to "ride the game" of Uther, when he could have just made a totally independent name and still realistically reformed the KOTSH. I also think Uther was not the type to really have children.

When I asked Uther why he didn't have children, he replied "Touch me not I am chaste!"

The worst case of roleplaying that I have EVER seen had to be a guy on Argent Dawn. He was a night elven druid who, by the way was a former warlock, and not only was he a former warlock he still used the fel magic and shadow magic. His dad was also one of the first satyrs (he was born before Xavius the first Satyr became a satyr by the way :P) And to top it all off he was possessed by none other than Hakkar the Soulflayer himself. His favorite hobbies were going around attack people in my former guild and while my demon hunting night elf hunter was trying to stop him, the other members of the guild were attacking me for being "intolerant" of another member.

Its a cheezy story, but I like it.

I can maybe understand Tyrande going into a trance or something but thats just too stupid.

Anyways, must paladins live in Selibate?

Kenzuki
07-12-2006, 10:48 AM
Celibate? There is no real evidence that the Clergy of the Holy Light must be celibate, however, the paladin does say "Touch me not I am chaste!" when you poke him alot hehe. Remember, Tirion Fordring was a Lord Paladin and he not only had a son, he also had a smokin' hot young wife! :D

ScytheRexx

Having a family and.. well... relations with ones wife is not something the Knights of the Silverhand would look down apon. Its natural for anyone to want to have a family and a life outside of the church.

I was just saying that I don't think Uther would be one of those people. He was never married as far as we know, he always was a man of the church ever since he was a Cleric of Northshire, always bound by his duty to the Holy Light.

He seems like the guy that was "married" to his faith and nothing else, thats just always been my impression of Uther.

Jaina AND Uther? Arthas was on a role!

Next thing you know, Illidan will just realize that all these years have just been built up sexual tension for Arthas, no wonder he gave up Tyrande to his brother. ;)

When i played on Earthen Ring (for 10 levels), i noticed that the Tirisfal general-chat was as bad as barrens chat on any other realm. The worst thing i noticed was that there were about 3 guilds that said they were "Kel'Thuzads followers", "Scourge agents in the Forsaken" or "Rebels who follow Ner'Zhul".

I asked one of the guild leaders why they haven't been destroyed by Sylvanas' forces already, and he said: "Lol becouse we own them"

I talked to him some more and found out they were "waiting that blizzzard inevitably gives players the opinion to ally the scourge and leave the horde" and in the meantime they were inactive in roleplaying.

After pointing out every single wrong thing in his guild idea, he said three words:

"yes, wanna join?"

I've often found that some of the better fan fiction for gaming content often appears in the form of single-player mod campaigns and the like. Sadly, after some of the stuff that was made by players for Starcraft, I was a bit disappointed by-and-large by the caliber of single-player modding that accompanied WC3. A few were decent or even unique and noteworthy, but it seemed like 90% of the modded single-player stuff either just borrowed the WC models and terrain and used a completely disconnected storyline from anything remotely WC (generally using generic terms like the Kingdom or such to explain an army consisting of Humans, Night Elves and Sasquatches), or they were Tower Defense-type maps that just had triggers fling unlimited numbers of unrelated mobs at the player until a certain building was razed. Otherwise most maps focused solely on outright multi-play, which is fine, but not exactly riveting story-wise.

I never really had much use for the RP realms, mostly since I was a bit irked by the additional set of "rules" involved. Seemed like an awful lot of people in such an environment would probably get offended by someone who sometimes misspells names and places while fast-typing, so I just steered clear. In hindsight, I'm especially glad since, though I'm no heavy user of online abbreviations, being able to sum things up with a few shorthand phrases while a dozen angry mobs are chewing on your group is very handy. Folks excessively driven by roleplaying tend to want everything enunciated fully as if spoken in RL, so things like shouting "add!" as an elite mob charges the group might evoke a hostile response from some roleplayers just because it wasn't phrased as "Incoming Elite Ogre from the left side, watch out!", which is the sort of wordy in-game typing that wipes instance groups. The only real in-game "roleplaying" I've ever done was to name most of my characters after various individuals from a story I never ended up finishing turning into a TFT campaign map(mostly because WoW came along).

Still sometimes while grinding mobs, I find myself "thinking in character" as if I were carrying on as my toon's namesake through WoW. I even kinda ended up with their current armor sets matching what I imagined them wearing as story characters. Huh, go figure. Weird coincidence, I guess.
