Some were better than others, but the faction leader series was definitely one of their better initiatives. They conveyed some absolutely key plot events for some of the characters (Sylvanas, Velen), and much-needed characterization for others (Theron, Gallywix, Genn). Shame it's over.

What else can they do, though? What would make a good short story, now that the leaders are out of the running for the foreseeable future? Tales of the key battles in Ashenvale/the Barrens from the points of view of random soldiers fighting them? A catch up with "forgotten" characters and what they've been getting up to, like Khadgar, Danath, Liadrin (her in particular x.x), Nazgrel, Mal'Ganis? How about tales exploring the more ambiguous weapons and their "canon" wielders in modern lore, like Shadowmourne, Val'anyr, Quel'Delar and Thori'dal?

Any feasible ideas, essentially. Short stories are a great way to expand the lore and world build.

Hey guys. I'm working on a Warcraft II version of the board game Diplomacy. Are any of you familiar with that game? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diplomacy_(game)

Anyway... I have the basic idea down. It's going to be six players, made up of the Warcraft II factions split by twos:

Lordaeron and Dalaran (white)
Azeroth and Kul Tiras (dark blue)
Stromgarde and Alterac (yellow)
Blackrock and Bleeding Hollow Clans (red)
Stormreaver and Twilight's Hammer Clans (light blue)
Dragonmaw and Black Tooth Grin Clans (black)

And I've almost got a working version of the map. I was at first going to use the original map from the Warcraft II manual, but that would leave a LOT of unnamed places that I would just have to make up labels for... so it's going to use a bit of the Modern WoW map of the Eastern kingdoms to fill in the gaps.

However, looking through the maps on the wikis, it's really hard for me to find a working map of the Azeroth and its border with Khaz Modan.

ToD manual map: http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__.../d/df/War2.jpg
WoW map of Lordaeron, etc.: http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__...WLordaeron.jpg
WoW map of Khaz Modan: http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__...WKhazModan.jpg
WoW map of Azeroth: http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__...WoWAzeroth.jpg

See, the Lordaeron and Khaz Modan maps were EXTREMELY helpful. But the Azeroth map confuses me a bit. I've tried to use Blackrock Mountain (which is on both the Azeroth map and the Khaz Modan map) as a gauge of the continents, but I still have a few things to grasp.

1) On the Azeroth map, it almost looks like Blackrock Mountain, Stormwind, and Northshire are on the coastline. But that's not water, is it? What is that area of land north of Stormwind and west of the Burning Steppes?

I also have a couple of unrelated geographic questions, if you guys could help me out:

2) On the Lordaeron map, do you guys know what the Western Plaguelands would be called during the Second War? I'm thinking of just giving it a generic name, like the Northern Passage. But a real name would be preferable.

3) Similar deal with the Twilight Highlands (Dragonmaw Gates). Could they be called the Twilight Highlands during the Second War? Or did they gain that name only in the times of Cataclysm, with all the Twilight's Hammer stuff going on?

Thanks for your help, guys. I really want this Diplomacy variant to be balanced, enjoyable, AND as accurate to the Warcraft world as possible!
:footman::grunt:

(sorry if I'm in the wrong forum; I figured it was either this or Fan Fiction)

Nothing can prepare you for the Ring. Its sublime textures, its dark passages, and its climactic final moments leave one exhausted and spent. In this groundbreaking work John L. DiGaetani succeeds in exploring what it takes to - literally - penetrate the Ring.

Wagner was a man of filthy personal habits and ate a very poor diet. He was grouchy and sometimes didn't leave his bed for days and days, even to wash. A lot of people think that this is why his Ring grew into something so enormous and troublesome. DiGaetani argues a contrary view: that the unmanagible size of Wagner's Ring is an act of Will - that it was the ultimate expression of Wagner's attempt to obliterate all that had gone before him that drove him to such excesses as inserting swords, helmets, anvils, speers and a giant worm into his Ring. The end result, argues DiGaetani, is a structure which although circular, runs red with blood and gives both seering pain and intense pleasure.

For me the greatest achievement of this book is the long section wherein the author gives guidance on how the Ring can be relevant to audiences today. In one passage guiding us through the subtext of Siegfried's death (he is impailed in the back by the rough and burly Hagen) he quite literally brings the viewer to the point of wishing to BE Siegfried and to die as that hero died, in a state of unqualified adoration and radiant bliss.

I would recommend this book for more serious Wagner scholars, as much of the material takes for granted an understanding of the structure, form, and perceived limits of those many layers of ancient sentiment which subconsciously adhere to the many inner recesses of this epic and awful work whose cavernous chambers lie hidden from the uninitiated. To penetrate the Ring prematurely would lead to a raw and ungratifying experience.

As far as I am aware they don’t have any in-game contact or share any screentime, but I can’t imagine the Scryers would be indifferent to the return of Dalaran, or that the Silver Covenant would ignore non-Horde Blood Elves.
Thank you for reading and for your thoughts.

If I remember correctly from the press event, Metzen mentioned that they were excited to be able to leverage so many of their characters in the coming patches leading up to the Siege of Orgrimmar and the overthrowing of Garrosh.

So the question I'm asking is, what do you think some of the motivations for characters involved in the war will be? Feel free to throw ideas and pet theories around seeing as we know next to nothing about what's going to be happening and we still have the entire Pandaria focused story line ahead of us.

While obviously for most Alliance characters getting rid of the Warchief is a strong pull on its on merit I'd imagine securing the loyalty of many neutral characters would be difficult as the world is not necessarily at stake and even convincing some Horde figures may be difficult.

(Note: I am not saying in any way that I think that Horde or neutral characters should get more or better detailed story lines throughout all of this, we've still yet to see the whole High King thing play out and I really hope Blizzard does it well)

The two that spawned this idea were Rexxar and Tirion. For Rexxar I can see the player travelling to Outland on the orders of whoever leads the resistance (Saurfang?) and ask for the Mok'nathal's aid, to which he basically tells you to get stuffed. However Garrosh having heard of this sends Shattered Hand assassins after both the player and Rexxar, during the attack Misha is killed tragically and Rexxar swears vengeance.

How I see the Tirion thing playing out is a bit more subtle, it comes down to him not wanting to get involved in faction politics and the player bringing up the point that without any Kalimdor reinforcements the Forsaken grip on the plague lands will loosen a bit and that the next leader of the Horde might choose to watch Sylvanas more carefully.
