It depends on what theory you are going with. If they are taking this chance to break away from the Lich King, why would they care what happened to him or continue his work? If they are told he "ascended" and should continue his work, that doesn't follow the theory that they are trying to break away on their own away from the Lich King. You (not Cantus) can't say that they think he "ascended" and that they need to continue his work but at the same time they are taking this chance to go against the Lich King because he has been weakened and they want to go solo.
