Well hell. Great find. Sad times? I mean the Worgen could be brought into the fold due to their world being under seige by the "Lords of Emerald Flame" or whatever. But really? There are so many other possibilities that have the "cool" factor and make sense.

There might still be some hope that it comes from the Worgen somehow being the focus of some Hallow's End content. Considering the werewolf/Halloween connection, it's kind of a wonder they haven't already done such a thing.

In general it seems like they've sort of under-utilized all sorts of creepy stuff that already exists in-game which could have been attached to that holiday. Just like there are any number of snow zones that Winter Veil could have been expanded to make use of, or desert and volcanic areas where the Midsummer Fire Festival could take players.

Though the "softness" of those faces and the presence of both genders is troubling. Like they're meant to be friendly-looking rather than the red-eyed, fang-faced killing machines that Worgen (and wolves/worgs most of the time) have looked like up to this point.

Of course, there's always the chance that they might appear in some neutral capacity and somehow play a part in Hollow's End as well. Non-evil Worgen who aren't playable would still be easier to stomach than cramming them into one of the player factions. Especially since the latter would strengthen the impression of Blizzard actually responding directly to demands made on their official forums. Suddenly everyone will be convinced that their "do this and give us this or I'll cancel my account" threats are being acknowledged by the developers.

Now now, why would it be new races ? These are just masks !
Goblins and Worgen just fit in the Halloween visual mood. I'm surprised this wasn't in already.
They must have added female versions because they realized female characters might want to wear female masks, perhaps ?
We'll have to wait until Blizzcon to be sure, but I wouldn't bet these are the "new" races.

As I said, they MIGHT be new races, but obviously, nothing is confirmed yet.

It's just something interesting I found in the 3.2 files.

You see, would it have been just the goblins, I wouldn't have posted.

The point is, the last time they added new masks was when they added the bloodelves and draenei, altough there were many masks that would work for Hallow's End (Murloc, Gnoll, etc).

Also, as you can see from the texture: These worgen are nothing like we've seen before. They are far more detailed and well... As I said, they made even a female version. And hey, they didn't even make females for the taunka! And hey, if it would be just for Hallow's End, they would make them scary.

So, why should they make a female version of worgen, unless they are up to something? Especially since we didn't see any female worgen before?

Maybe they added these textures by accident already? Or they will start seeding the new race soon after 3.2? I mean, there were already textures for the icecrown raid which were added by accident.

Altough I am not a fan of worgen, you must keep a few things in mind.

1. Worgen are popular

People liked the worgen and started suggesting them to be a race. They made rumors about them etc.

2. Worgen got lore

The Worgen were there from the start of WoW. They have lore behind them, from the native worgen from a different dimension to the cursed humans who became worgen. And just like the lore of drakonids, they can go further with their lore.

3. Worgen got an unique shape

The Worgen have a silhouette unlike the other races, which makes them a good candidate. They are also humanoids and well... Got 2 arms, 2 legs and etc.


Although I was surprised by this and I'm no big worgen fan, I thought this through. The worgen can work out as a race. After all, we must keep in mind that there are humans who were transformed by force through an curse into worgen.

For example: What if, let's say, the nation of Gilneas became a victim of the curse, too? What if they are stucked in their bodies and hence are no more human? Gilneas was closed for a long time and anything could have happened there. Gilneas becoming slowly a nation of worgen, all losing their mind. But then, somehow by [implent reason here], they have their free will now, or they tried to cure themselves but failed. Now, after many years, they seek the help of the alliance (or horde, if you want to ). Of course, this is just a wild example.

My point is: We should see how the worgen would be implented, IF they are one of the new races. It may be that there are many other candidates we would love to see, but they have a potential and depending of how blizzard use it, it might be better than you think.

Of course, maybe they aren't a new race after all.

I know, I know. But I was trying to calm down the discussion that was going "OMG BlizZ suks b4lls".

As for why they put detailed Worgen textures in, perhaps they'll have some of the spotlight in the next expansion. Especially if we have the Emerald Dream and a more Night Elvish themed expansion, where they could close the Scythe of Elune story arc once and for all. Or expand upon it.

This was a great find, Handclaw, but you shouldn't have mentionned "new races" in your post to keep the thread flame-proof

Because discussing about upcoming races is so flame worthy no matter what content the OP has shown. =)

well regardless of whether he put "new races" into the thread title or not, people would have speculated the reasoning behind adding a female worgen face texture to the game.


It is rather odd; we have no female Taunka or Ogres in game.

Part of the fun in playing a game like WOW and reading Warcraft lore is the speculation/trying to guess what's going to happen next (I know the gears in my head are already turning).

Assume the female and male look the same in lore. =P

The "Gilneas got invaded by Worgen" shit is shit.

Also, the worgen, as we see them in-game, are completely undeveloped. Making them playable would be worse than draenei. Draenei, at least, we knew they had a society and whatever.

But worgen, for god's sake, are savage creatures. It's like if, suddenly, you place a gnoll/quilboar/kobold/murloc giant capital city somewhere, with a developed society. It has no freaking sense.

Also, something that makes me believe they are a race: Blizzard hints.
