Title says it all. My laptop is already starting to show its age, and i've been toying with the idea of getting an iMac once i you know, get a job, lol.
I've only used a Mac once and that was for 2 minutes at a Apple Store a few weeks ago. Does anybody here use a Mac? Any opinions positive or negative towards Macs is welcomed. I'm just trying to make up my mind.

Not for gaming. Hell no. Stay away from Macs for gaming. They are shit. Virtually un-customizable.

The only game i usually play is WoW, and i've seen it run great on a iMac less powerful then the one i would get. I'ld rather have it run for a few years and get a new computer then have to replace parts on it as it wears out, and i've been told that's essentially the Mac model.
Also, i'm toying with getting into web design and video editing, and i've been told Macs are still great at that.

It depends what your primary use is. If you're going to play WoW ad infinitum then steer clear of any and all Apple products. If the primary use is web development, video editing, or non-gaming, then it's actually a very decent platform.
Personally, I hate Macs because when they go down it's damn near impossible to bring them back. PC's can limp along for years on end (my previous and current laptops have had their quirks) or run perfectly whereas Macs are all or nothing operating systems. The other thing is that a lot of software companies simply don't bother with Mac support the way they do with PC's. Even with Virtual Machine it's still very difficult to run non-Mac software on the system so it's pretty much just how much time you'll be spending on CS style stuff versus entertainment.

Yeah, that's what i've been told. Does anybody here know off the lifespan on a Mac if it's taken care of and whatnot?

I game just fine with a Mac, and Bootcamp for the games that aren't in Mac. But this is keeping in mind the fact I play few high-requirement games.
I'm not sure about lifespan. I've had this particular MacBook since last Christmas and I use it almost everyday for a ridiculous amount of time, and I have a iMac from the Christmas before that that my brother uses for a ridiculous amount of time everyday, and so far we have had no problems with either. Its a very easy OS to use if you don't resist learning how to (like most of my classmates do...), but if you're a hardcore gamer that likes to Crysis on max then a mac isn't right for you. But, personally, I love Macs

Yeah, i play 3 games for PC. WoW, Spore, and Sins of a Solar Empire; which is one of the best RTSs I've ever played.
If it helps, these are the specs of the iMac i would order. - 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 - 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x2GB - 1TB Serial ATA Drive - ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB - 8x double-layer SuperDrive - ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics with 512MB

Don't forget for online games you need a fast connection, not just a good computer.

Bigger monitor. 22" is like stock size now. I think stock size is the right word? 22" is the smallest they even sell most new computers with. 6MB Cache? I would think it would be higher for that price. 8GB memory. Depending on what you do with your computer, RAM can get used up quickly. More RAM never hurts. ![]()
