He used that as an example only, but yeah, what he's proposing is pretty similar when I reread it. He would omit the cutscenes from some future game and package it as a film separate from the game. =/

Advent Children was at least not ripped straight from any game. The story was, yes, but everything was 'new'.
Yeah, that's not really what he was saying at all. But you know, its cool, should take them 5 years to do that right? I also like jumping to conclusions:

"He clearly said he wanted to charge 30 dollars for all the cinematics starting with Warcraft 2,3,tft and wow and piece them altogether for the Warcraft movie, clearly. Process should take 5 years to do, no new content, because he didn't specify that, what a motherfucker. How dare he force me to pay my hard earned money for a Blizzard product which I simply can't resist because I am a Blizzard fanboy. Blizzard is such a bunch of bastards! INTERNET OUTRAGE!!!"

That was fun, now someone should read that take it for gospel, and the rumor will spread, people will get upset and I will thus be empowered. Since we are looking at something that may or may not happen until 5 years pass, people will have to assume I am right as I cannot be dis-proven that this is their plan.

Now, stay with me here.

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said it's likely his company will begin selling in-engine cutscenes as full movies in the near future.
Now, I am working with their wording. They specifically said cutscenes. As far as I understand, cutscenes means the scenes that are in your game. All the pretty shit between the gameplay. Right?

That's how I read it. Over and over again.

Now, if they had said 'In-engine full length films' that would be something completely different. I would have read it as, 'Let's make movies with this awesome engine we have.' Then yes, I would say that would be a great idea. Look at Advent Children, for example.

But no. They chose bad wording. If they meant in-engine full length films, then suuuuure. I would go along with it. But until Ko-dick offers some clarification, I am sticking with my original thought process of selling in-game cutscenes.

Kotick said StarCraft II's in-game cinematics are so good that the publisher could edit them into one film and distribute it to fans digitally, a move, he said, is likely to happen sometime in the next five years.
Once again. They say specifically taking the in-game cinematics and splicing them into a film.

How can you not see what he said?

I got it the first time. As I said, this is basically Daddy Warfucks' way of exploiting the far-more-successful half of his company.

I suppose if you take that literally it is the most retarded thing ever. I was trying to defend the possibility that the move wasn't entirely idiotic. If that wasn't an example and we do infact take it without a grain of salt then yes, they do plan on cutting together all the ingame rendered cut scenes from Starcraft 2 into a movie, sell it digitally 5 years from now when it's dated. But then again, who really cares, anyone who gives a rats ass would have already seen them all in the game anyway. I just really doubt that the example was literal. You base your assumption that Blizzard is a bunch of neighing jackasses, where I base it on the assumption that they are business savvy and not entirely idiotic. It's two sides to the same coin I suppose.

When I first read the press release, I got the feeling that this was leading to cutscenes being excluded from games, and sold separately on the side at a premium. Sorta like the Matrix sequels, or Southland Tales...you got the gist of it all from the films, but to get the whole story you'd have to buy ancillary dvds, games, comics, and other assorted crap, only in reverse, with the games being the primary material.

I'm picturing future game releases being stripped down to just the game itself and some text to fill in between missions or chapters or whatnot, while all the pretty cutscenes and cinematics are placed behind a DLC pricewall.

Now that I think about this, don't repeat anything I've typed here. Kodick might see it and get ideas.

Who would buy ingame cinematics, anyway? Wouldn't it be on youtube immediately? Even if they removed it from there, I don't think anyone in their right mind would buy cinematics. Even if it was just 1 cent. It's a matter of principle.
