I'll just repost my thoughts on the subject from another thread:

The only way I could find fault with this is if the misogyny was inherent in the writing, i.e. the women characters were all portrayed as dimwitted simpletons who never ever challenge the given order of things, and who perfectly conform to the standards of their society of being stupid and submissive. This is clearly not the case.
But even then it would only be ME who is insulted by the work, if the work's canon is such that women are inherently and strongly inferior to men then it is me who should quit the setting, not the author who should change the world.
However, to change their initial design because someone complained is pathetic, and a tricky slippery slope that will either make them more pathetic or hypocrites for refusing changes to other groups.

To give an example allow me to put on the cloak of a strawman Christian. Wah wah wah, I am offended by the undead, their actions and very origin stand against everything that I am as a person. Same goes for the morally inexcusable warlocks who collude with demons. And let's not forget that Garrosh Hellscream is a monster who kills people without giving them a second chance, such behavior is irreconcilable with being a Christian, mercy and redemption are swept off the table by this brute I want his offensive behavior changed!
Now tell me, should "I" be listened to?

In terms of needing a mature, capable individual to represent females in the series, Aysa was pretty much handed to players on a palanquin with trumpets announcing her existence. The start zone with her screams "I'm a responsible, reasonable being, unlike Ji who's a fucking dumbass."

Which only makes her seem arrogant and full of herself, especially when the "dumbass" saves the turtle by being reckless which she was against. I may be 100% Alliance but I like Ji more than her.

That's strange... MoP really seemed to be a believable world with a horny guy and stuff but I guess people aren't into that kinds of stuff [not sure what the Ji Firepaw thing is really, but that's my input nonetheless]?

Aysa is the perfect embodiment of what's wrong with the current Alliance paragram. Shes way too perfect in every respect. Sensible, calm and wise yet also unwilling to do anything unconventional or questionable whatsoever.

Aysa would actually be a lot more likable with some negative traits of her own. I'd personally make her arrogant and aloof. Considering herself above Ji or similar individuals. Then seeing her come to respect you a bit more towards the end of the zone. maybe make her refusal to use the explosive because they're crude rather then the typical "Thats wrong!1!!!" That would be a lot more compelling to me at least.

EDIT: Blizzard has decided they're sick of Ji feedback. I find this pathetic. They're obviously trying to sweep this under the rug.

I think they are more generally sick of players thinking they dictate the story.

I think there's a lot more they could have done with both of the factional Pandaren characters. I don't really find Ji as dynamic as Aysa quite so abruptly but I can understand what people mean when they say Ji has a bit more personality.

I think maybe they'll explore these characters a bit better later on in the beta or maybe in subsequent patches.

Say what you will but now I see that QQing and threatening to cut your subscription is the way to exact change from Blizzard.

When you look back a few years it is impossible not to see how Blizzard has been increasingly reactionary to their base's demands, them saying that they're not is insulting to our common sense.

Censorship is an issue Blizzard and in fact most of the modern world is terrible at handling. Anything that can be seen as remotely offensive is neutered. Look at Brewfests goggles, look at all the jokes they removed, the brewmaster abilities and now Ji. What's next? Will Sylvanas's outfit be altered to a muslim shawl because their community doesn't like her exposed skin? Will Maiev be specifically tied to some nameless male Night Elf male to nix her homosexual tones with Naisha? Will Garona get a comic starring her thoroughly misunderstood Orcish father to explain away her rape-spawned existence?

But you're right its all money. The lack of a spine or writers vision is all irrelevant as long as there's more cash involved.

There is very little in life that compares with my loathing off censorship as a concept and Blizzards way of handling these situations outright enrages me.

I just had a great idea on how to make the Alliance/Horde choice seem lessed biased AND restore character to both Aysa and Ji (or add character in her case).

When destroying the Skyfire, have Ji freak out with no idea what to do once the turtle starts bleeding. Aysa then calmly organizes the healers to close the wound while he fends off the attacking saurok. It's shown that only by working together could they have saved the turtle (Aysa didn't know how to get rid of the Skyfire, and Ji hadn't planned far enough to deal with the consequences). There could even be an argument between them over who is ultimately responsible for saving the isle and lead to their Alliance/Horde schism.

Now both sides get to be part of the saving, and both pandaren get some more character defining moments.

It's a little campy but overall pretty solid. I think it would help a lot, someone should drop this on the beta forums.
