^ But Ner'zhul's portals were specifically paths that went through... (clears throat)... THE TWISTING NETHER!!!!
Do all portals work that way, or did Ner'zhul not realize his route?

Especially considering Druids have more of a connection to arcane magic than shamans.

I thought that part was Illlidan's (you're talking about the DS thing in the end, arent you?) and Furion's was the NATURE HER MAH CALL part

No. It was during the second book, I believe. Malfurion tried and succeded in gaining acces to the Well of Eternity's energies(or part of them) for the Moon Guard. Before he did that, Azshara and co blocked acces to the well for everybody except the highborne. I don't remember how he did that but the book makes it clear it was an arcane ritual.

Didn't he also train as a mage with his brother before choosing to pursue druidism?

Not sure if it's explicitally said but it's heavily implied since he knew how to disrupt the shield around the Well, plus it's mentioned he was aware he was almost as talented as Illidan, he had to give it a go to know that.

Going back to Nerzhul for a bit....
To my knowledge/recollecton Nerzhul is actually a bit of a different case than most shamans because unlike the others who apparently lost their powers when the elements abandoned them Nerzhul did not. I'm trying to remember where I had specifically remember this mentioned (I do believe it was RotH) but unlike the others who basically asked the elements he basically commanded them and compelled them. I think it was mentioned that his practices were a type of "dark shamanism" as it were but I cannot quite recall. |

I never really heard much of Dark shamanism. When I hear it I think of evil elementals or just not your typical shamanism.

^ "The Elder Shaman Ner'zhul" (established in Beyond the Dark Portal) is the reason I was so confused when Warcraft III started telling us that shaman magic was completely different than warlock magic. Consider that the guy commanded the same necromantic Death Knights and warlock-powered Ogre-Magi as before, and his epic magic spell was to be done with:
1) The book of a powerful Warlock 2) The SKULL of another powerful Warlock 3) The sceptre of a freakin' DAEMON 4) Another random magical artifact (not important to my point) Someone here suggested to me that by the time of the Draenor Incident, Ner'zhul's title of "shaman" was more ceremonial than anything. I'm inclined to agree with this. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Also, on an equally compelling topic... The Ogres Za'brox and Beeble'phod have their heads separately named as Za, Brox, Beeble, and Phod. This reinforces the argument that Blizzard meant the Ogres' name divisions to be separated by the apostrophe... ...which reinforces the counter-apostrophe examples I listed, and my point that the separate head names was probably something made up by Cho'gall, a convention that a few other Ogre fans decided to follow. ![]()

Now that he's officially dead again, I bet the skulls of Cho and Gall could do some crazy stuff.
With the history the Skull of Gul'dan has had, you'd think Warlocks in the Warcraft universe would treat every powerful warlock's head as a relic-weapon.

Somehow I feel Ner'Zhul isn't quite gone. The theory about Cho'gall IS interesting. It's probably a very powerful Shadow/Old God artifact.
