Default The Landscape of Azeroth

Recently, someone released a spiritual successor to MapWoW, which depicted vanilla through WotLK's landscape with Google Map's mapping feature. The new website is called "World of MapCraft".

After taking some time to carefully study the landscape, I've become astonished at how much of the landscape has been forgotten, rewritten, and/or replaced. I always could see that there was truly no place for Alterac Valley to fit on the global Azeroth map, but there are many other areas that have lore areas overlap other lore areas. The spacing of towns and hubs is staggered, with the most confusing overlap is northern Eastern Kingdoms: Stratholme and Deatholme, two distinct Scourge-aligned bases of operations, are directly on top of each other.

I thought you guys would be interested in seeing how odd the game world has shaped up the lore world. I wish they would have reviewed these places and altered some of them during the development of the Cataclysm expansion.

Well, I do act typically mainstream and conformist with the hope that I will soon be the only one left who is doing so.

But really, battlegrounds not fitting into the main game world, Quel'Thalas not attaching right, and the Cataclysm changing things? I can be discussed, but these are not new.

I really am bothered by the gamescale, actually... Tol Barad alone must be about the size of the current Northrend.

Alterac city is a few houses, a church and a barracks. And several meters away is the town of Strahnbrad with a budding population of 3. Several meters down the hill is the ruins of Lordaeran with several towers and some gardens. Several more meters from there is the town of Brill with 4 buildings.

Game scale is a bitch.

Barracks and keeps are often the same building, though keeps are often given towers to differentiate, and Strahnbrad has several Syndicate members in its buildings.

I remember during Vanilla, someone overlaid Azeroth onto the real world and Azeroth was about the size of downtown Honolulu, which is not a large city. If we assume that Azeroth should be roughly Earth-sized, that discrepancy is unfathomable.

If you blow up Azeroth to match the size of the Earth, then proportionally, the city of Stormwind alone is like the size of France, if not bigger.

They are a rag-tag group of champions, this bunch, and, with Harry, the near-perfect new god, they know they will dominate the day. Harry is a world laced with rivers of wizardly blood. He is ready.
