I've got a question. And it's probably going to sound dumb. But why is it that every time Bolvar or... say, Kerrah, posts something on a story, it gets comments, but when I post something I get... you know, maybe one comment every 4-5 posts. And I'm not using you two as examples to dig at you or anything, I'm just genuinely curious.
Is it the format? The characters? Are my stories not engaging? Do they suck? Is it because3 they're more popular than I am or something? It's incredibly discouraging to post something and then get no comments or feedback of any kind, and it's really affecting my desire to write. And it isn't just here, either. Everywhere I post stories, they'll go months without comment. It makes me wonder if my dream of writing a book is retarded, because if I can't even get a comment on a free story, who's going to bother to pay for one?

There's nothing wrong with your work that I've seen. One of the secrets to success is to not care what others think. Any rational person would've said the Wright brothers were insane. I try to comment on everything, but I've been taking a break to work on some original stuff.

I know the feeling as well and would agree with DarkAngel on this one. I don't think it is about the stories themselves, but rather about the authors' popularity that creates an initial interest in a text, and therefore a willingness in people to give the text a try. I would be surprised if there are tons of people who read multiple texts and then give constructive feedback only to one text rather than the other. People are simply reluctant to engage with fan-created/non-professional texts in the first place.
All the more reason to be glad that people like DarkAngel exist. |

How do you guys write battle between individuals? Detailed description of the fight such as weapon clash and spells or focus on other thing the characters' inner conflict?

It mostly depends on what you want to emphasize while the battle is going on, methinks.

So I have a question. I'm nearly certain that I know the answer to it already, but I want some kind of 'official' statement.
A lot of what I write falls under the label of erotica. You know, sex and the like. And I know people here who like my writing, and I know of a few who read that part of my writing as well. However, the site I post these things to requires a password, membership and such to read, which some people either don't want to do, or are against doing for some reason or another. Others simply don't want to join another site. So the question is, if I wanted to post those things here(of course sufficiently tagged and marked, maybe even wrapped in spoilers), would that be okay? People who don't want to or can't join a site could read it, and a lot more of my writing would be available to people here as well, if they want to read it. I'm pretty sure that the answer is going to be no, and I'm okay with that, but I at least wanted to present my case and get an official yay or nay one way or the other, instead of just assuming.

From my point of view, as long as you preface it with a thorough explanation of what to expect, and maybe put the "offensive" text under a spoiler tag, I think it would be fine for everyone. As long as it's not too explicit, it should be fine (IE, if you were to act out the scene and have a visual representation that followed your description word for word, that visual shouldn't classify as "hardcore pornography;" "softcore" would be fine I think).

It's all in text, so there's no pictures or anything at all. And I figured you guys would be probably okay with, but I'm looking for more like... Cantus, or Timolas, or Warlock. Someone who knows the policies better than me. Official say so.

What's the plot's main focus? If it's not about porn then you can delete the detailed sex scene, just tell us they had sex or whatever, it won't affect the story too much.

The scenes are usually parts of the plot itself. Either because of important details, or feelings, or interactions between the characters that are played out within them. I'd rather have to not post them at all than remove those sections, because much detail is lost in the process.

Such as something like this. Quote:
If the direct sex scene is way too important to the story, which means it's focused on such thing, I suggest not to post such story. |

I love that sex scenes are so awkward, in many fictions.

I'm just giving an example that you can still focus on the interaction rather than really describe the actual scene because that may not be good for a 13+ game's lore community.

Slow I think you missed the part where I said it's erotica. The sex is kinda important to the story. =p

Erotica also variants, if it focus too much on direct sex, then it's not wise to put it here.
