The realization that this comment is true made me rage. Anub'arak deserved better, same with Kel'thuzad.

I think it's a bit premature to say we'll never be seeing the Silithus revamp now that it's been cut from Cata. Like Azjol-Nerub, Silithus will likely just be saved for future content - probably around the time we start focusing on the Old Gods in earnest.

Does people understand now why I get sometimes so angry? they say they don't have resources to develop characters, and then they develop trash characters...

And it's like this for everything. Oh, we have no time for new models! Vaanel makes models better than theirs, in his free time. Oh, we can't give Al'Akir a storyline! Harrison Jones lore infests the whole zone.

Well, one of the better things for GW2 will be the leveling experience, while raids won't be as complex as WoW's, so yeah, JOIN US!

They realized that anyone who actually played during Vanilla hated the place with a passion.

And since there's enough of us to make that a terrible investment of time, they scrapped it, I'm sure.

Then they should have ... fixed it? Possibly in an expansion that is all about revamping the old world?

Given the strong Twilights Hammer presence there and the connection to Cho'galls story I'm still rather puzzled as to why it wasn't revamped.

Blizzard prefers revamping good content (Scarlet Monastery, Deadmines, Shadowfang Keep, etc) rather than bad.

I think they prioritized Blasted Lands for that zone level.

You're comparing dungeon revamps to zone revamps. They did huge revamps to the Barrens, Azshara and other bad zones.

I wouldn't even consider the Azshara change a "revamp" because it was so bad. Maybe a recreation. Seriously, how many quests were there? Two?

I miss the old Azshara.

Not the quests or how hard it was to get around, hell no. Would never miss those.
I miss when it was full of mystery and naga and not goblins.

I still wish they had expanded on the night elf connection in the zone in Cata. Not that the goblin story isn't fun but I just would've liked that more.

The thing is, two of the zones that weren't updated with Cata HAD already been updated, Silithus and Dustwallow. They hadn't been updated to the extent of Cata and certainly not with modern dev tools... but that basically put them on a lower priority level than others.

Dude, I have to say, Silithus was not really updated, per say. I thought that the entire place was barren prior to the "revamp"/addition of quests.

Silithus also had the baggage of being a level 55-60 zone in a day and age when most people on alts seem to just head straight to Outland as soon as possible. Lowering its level would have taken a midpoint in the leveling curve and jammed it into a dead-end corner of Kalimdor, while revamping it as a level 55-60 zone again would have resulted in the same situation of Kalimdor being geographically removed from the Azeroth-to-Outland transition that has people favoring the Blasted Lands anyway due to the convenience of the Dark Portal letting them jump straight into Hellfire right away.

Silithus is extremely isolated, which makes it clunkier to finish leveling in Kalimdor because it means finishing up the 55-60 (or 55-56/57) stretch just about as far away from the next leveling stretch as one can be, and with no city nearby to offer fast transport. The Horde at least has Booty Bay to get to the Blasted Lands; the nearest faction-shared point of transit to Silithus' corner of the world is Ratchet, which is still quite a ways away.

I'd personally find it cool to visit again and learn more about Silithus, but the logistics would probably call for it to either be a max-level zone reachable by city-based portals or the addition of some sort of port settlements ("Hey, the Cataclysm caused a landslide in the west! New beach, everyone!"), since nobody has the patience for long flights any more and its placement cuts it off from the rest of the world too much to fit it dynamically into a normal leveling curve.

Th Southwind Village quests were there before the AQ-accompanied revamp (and distributed by the Valor's Rest NPC's since Cenarion Hold didn't exist yet) and the Thunderfury-related stuff at the Crystal Vale was there as well, but otherwise it was full of insect and Twilight NPC's with no real function or purpose, and I'm pretty sure the still-elite silithid mobs didn't have working loot tables yet.

I recall Southwind being semi-implemented in particular, since as a Prot Warrior at the time, the two flying silithid summoned by each night elf ghost's death forced me to run away until they broke aggro, then return and pick each one off, since fighting more than one level 60 mob back then was practically a death sentence with only quest gear. Took me forever to finish that quest.

Neutral Building

Silithus is that odd child zone that's in the ass middle of nowhere and it's a terrible place.

Everything else was tolerable bad, this was the worst zone they've ever made.

EDIT:

And making Blasted Lands the last zone you level in in the old world makes more sense, since you can go straight to Outland from there.

Unfortunately I think that putting Dustwallow on the lower priority screwed up the levelling story way too much. I get why, but it was still stupid.

Um, you people realize that Silithus was revamped in order to go along with the Ahn'Qiraj raid, right? During vanilla? No one cared at the time about how it fit into a Burning Crusade leveling path (and it's not that bad, since Tanaris and Un'goro feed into there.) Yes, there are reasons why it's not visited today and it even wasn't a great endgame zone at the time, but it wasn't terrible either.

You want to see crap endgame zones, look at Blasted Lands or Burning Steppes prior to Cataclysm... or Deadwind Pass if that even counts. Azshara maybe?

Honestly, I don't think this is good reasoning for them to have avoided getting revamps.

Yes, they were updated during vanilla. But as you said, the quality still wasn't anywhere near as good as even TBC questing, let alone Wrath and Cata questing. They feel extraordinarily out of place now, all things considered.

Silithus was basically a zone for end-game content when it was revamped. End-game content that is now defunct. Dustwallow was always blah, even after the development.. It's nice to know we're getting the whole Theramoore thing in MoP, but from what I understand the crux of that is from the scenario more than the questing zone itself.

I don't think it's worth updating now, simply because Silithus was an Old God-themed area and that expansion has now passed, but it's a helluva missed opportunity.

I dunno, I still enjoy doing Silithus. The quests are grindy but nothing absolutely horrible (except the ones to kill worms, spiders, and scorpions...ugh).

I still remember leveling my Druid the first time, this was during Wrath so EK and Kalimdor were totally abandoned, and stepping foot into Silithus completely and totally unaware of anything about it. I had seen one or two silithid as Hunter pets standing around Dalaran but since I skipped most of south Kalimdor I had never fought them.

I was entirely alone, it was dark, creepy as shit, and I loved every moment of it.

I'm sure we all realize that when it was made for the Ahn'Qiraj raid that it wasn't intended for Burning Crusade.

And I would have rather leveled in Blasted Lands or the Burning Steppes than Silithus any day.

I agree that Silithus has amazing atmosphere and setting, but the content itself is too grindy for my tastes. It needed updating, and Cata would have been the perfect chance to do so.

It also would have given a great chance to shed light on the links between Uldum and Silithus (of which the former lacked in lore.)

The quests in the PTR were creepy, they made you afraid of the old gods again. They gave the impression they were more then bosses to kill, but a underlying corrupting influence that death has no hold on.

They could have done uncovered Uldum ruins, like they did in Badlands with Uldaman, and allowed you to find more about the war between the titans and the Old Gods.

It would have also just made the place more damn interesting and fun to go to.

Much of what you say is also true of Winterspring which did get a makeover. Yes the flight distances are shorter but its still in the middle of no where for a level 55 player. Part of me thinks the reason Winterspring got the overhaul was because of its closeness to Hyjal and they wanted to redo the mount quest.

As for will Silithus be revamped some time in a future, anything is possible but not doing it in Cata was clearly a missed opportunity. Then again you can also take it as a sign of a further distancing of the Lore in game from the World of Warcraft: Comics and Med'an.
