The Americas in general seem to be really big on it, but it is centered on the U.S.

The dropped it from the Olympics because the Olympics took place in the middle of the baseball season and most players would rather stick to the MLB than do the Olympics.

I probably get more amused than I really should every time I see British airways "Olympic" commercial, "London calling" is possibly the least appropriate song you could have for an ad campaign celebrating the city.

Let's not forget the whole driving a plane through the streets of London thing as well. I can't help but feel that the whole advert is one terrorist attack/plane accident away from being the world's most unintentionally innapropriate advert ever...

(Don't worry about plane based attacks, we have anti aircraft guns.)

Baseball is hugely popular in Japan and South Korea, but that's due to the extremely heavy American influence on both of them over the past 60 years.

Basically, it's popular in the United States and countries heavily affected by the United States (Meaning most of North America as well as a few nations in East Asia.)

This is ironic because Baseball was invented in Britain.

And in the same way, Englishman(most) love cricket and football. Why is it that England's national sport (yes, contrary to what some ignorant people say, cricket, and not football, is England's national sport) has no place in the Olympics, yet, the US's national sport was in the Olympics in 2008?

And Fojar, Rounders was invented in Britain. Baseball was copied from it.

I like baseball (from Slovenia myself). It's a really cool tactical game - no idea why the rest of the world didn't embrace it.

The "American invention of Baseball" is largely a manufactured myth.

I am not trying to defend what the Yanks say. All I am saying that Baseball is a copy of an older, but virtually unknown game, known as rounders.

Rounders is supposed to be a game for kids.

It's actually relatively more popular in Japan, SK and Latin America than the US, honestly. Baseball can't even come close to saying it's America's favorite sport anymore (that's football by a mile).

Tons of teenagers play soccer but US doesn't have a world level soccer league like NFL, MLB or NBA.

How could you discount Latin America and the Caribbean?

Do you even watch baseball? Major League rosters are full of players from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Mexico... The only place in the world it's NOT popular is Europe and Africa.

OK, the swimming team is amazing this time, the track/field is better than 2004 and 2008. The women soccer team avenged Japan and won the gold. Basketball still dominates, but what's wrong with volleyball? The men lost 0-3 to Italy and the women team played a horrible match in the final.
