EDIT: Also if we're going with "the orcs in my personal fantasy world are more original"... the orcs of my personal fantasy univese are basically Ottoman Psychic Biker Cyborgs. Last edited by Omacron : 08-07-2012 at 09:49 PM. |

Warcraft Orcs are boring.
This is about which is more original, and both Elder Scrolls and Might & Magic were doing the good guy Orc thing, the former with them being fully humanized and the latter with the "proud warrior race guy."

Well hey, from what I have played they're all just grumpy green humans. If they're so interesting in Daggerfall, what the heck happened?

Also they were doing the "noble orcs who found a kingdom after living as refugees" long before Thrall did it. |

Elder Scrolls is boring.

You're wrong.
Edit: I don't really want to sound like an ass but I think you are dead wrong here. I think the Elder Scrolls is one of the best video game series. Oblivion and Skyrim are easily my 2 favorite games. Last edited by Erthad : 08-07-2012 at 10:35 PM. |

They were certainly boring in Warcraft 1 and 2, and Blizzard is trying to make them boring again in Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria.
This argument is invalidated by the existence of the khajiit.

Erth, think about who you're talking to. His disliking of something counts as empirical proof as to its inherent goodness in most scientific communities.

I'm personally not a fan of Elder Scrolls' open-ended style. I like linear games, otherwise I freak out and feel like I have to do it a dozen times to get everything.
I don't like doing the same thing a dozen times. Which begs the question why do I have so many alts in WoW. |

The one thing that the Mogu remind me of are the Orc Blademasters but other than that when they originally showed the Concept art made them look very similar to Orcs.

The Warcraft Orcs are original, but only because their design is so scatter-brained. They are noble, honorable warriors simultaneously with being lumbering, murderous assholes. This is why the concept of "orc honor" is so difficult to grasp... the concept of honor turns "on and off" for them, and it's often related to being a genocidal maniac anyway.
They are interesting primarily by being inconsistent. In this way, Garrosh Hellscream is the Horde. Orgrim Doomhammer, more monstrous in current lore than he ever was in Warcraft II*, is their paragon. The most boring orcs were not the orcs of Warcraft and Warcraft II. The most boring orcs were the "Blackrock orcs" of Warcraft III. In other words, the Warcraft III version of Warcraft and Warcraft II, dumbed down to make the new Warcraft III orcs look more awesome in comparison. (Don't get me wrong, they were awesome--even without the comparison.) *EDIT NOTE: The reason Doomhammer is more monstrous in current lore than Warcraft II, is because now Doomhammer is one of the only orcs who doesn't have the excuse of demon blood corrupting him. Now, the more we know about how noble and honorable the orcs were before corruption, the more we can blame him for creating a heritage of global genocide, when he ordered his armies to conquer lands, enslave certain races, and exterminate other races. Orgrim Doomhammer betrayed everything that Durotan loved, and he made certain that the orcs would forever have a legacy as implacable monsters in Azeroth-world. If I were an orc propagandist, I would start forging documents to verify that Doomhammer accidentally drank more demon blood than anyone else. And that Sargeras was mind-controlling him. Something. Anything. But no, he's an ordinary orc now. No, sorry, not an ordinary orc---a heroic orc. A hero who killed humans during the First and Second Wars, the hero who nodded in approval as Stormwind survivors were tortured for kicks, the hero who embraced Gul'dan's death knights (heck, he NAMED the death knights) and ogre-magi as true assets, the hero who gave two thumbs up to the enslavement of the red dragonflight, the hero who ordered the burning of Quel'thalas and all of its inhabitants killed, and who did not succumb to the terrible lethargy but continued killing humans to free his people from internment camps. A true hero and killer, to the very end. The epitome of Orcish honor and freedom. Just like Garrosh.

So Garrosh doesn't allow the Forsaken to use their plague bombs. Then WHY THE HELL does he allow excessive Fel magic in Pandaria ? He himself stated he hates Fel magic. Worst character writing ever...

This is different. Those were Forsaken; these are Garrosh's orcs. They serve the Horde. Honor and shit. Shut up.

The reasoning is quite simple, really.
The Forsaken Blight*, The Bomb (in Stonetalon), and fel-tainting the Forest Heart make the land unusable to the Horde. Directed use of fel magic in terms of summoned demons (in a pinch, anyways) and shadowbolts are okay because they don't taint the land or the people as a whole. Garrosh may not know or care too much about how the Blight affects the land depending on the strain. * On a personal basis I prefer referring to it as Blight, as the word Plague brings up connotations of a disease that can spread very rapidly. Not to mention how much it flips back and forth between the two terms.
