Default The giving of power: how does it work?

Anyone have any idea, or just any interesting theories, on how members of The Council of Tirisfal "gave" their combined "power" to a chosen guardian? I mean, by my opinion, a caster (Mage, etc...) is powerful when there is a strong mix between two key things: knowledge and mana (the size of their arcane "fuel-tank"). So, if we are to go via my idea on what makes a strong caster, then what occurred when the Council gave power to a guardian? Was it semi-metaphorical in the sense that they were simply giving the Mage their combined knowledge via a strong spell (in other words, metaphorical in the sense that knowledge is power), or was it actual Arcane magic that they were giving the guardian? If it's the latter, how can that work? I mean, no matter how a Mage get's his or here Arcane magic, they can only hold as much as their mana (body) can take, no? Does the giving of this power somehow up their mana?

For those of you playing at home, I'm asking this question, partly out of curiosity, and partly so I can put together an RP campaign around this topic.

Possibly, they are allowing the guardian to tap into their own mana-reserves, thus giving the guardian access to his own mana pool + that of the others, simultaneously.

Maybe.

Would recommend checking Warcraft Legends 5 and (to a lesser extent) Mage if you have them. Apparently the process of transfering power from one mage to another is through twisting the teleportation spell. The Council of Tirisfal used that spell on the Guardian to act as a focusing lens for their own magical reserves, turning them into a living spearhead. When their powers melded into an individual, the person gained the magical knowledge from all contributors but it is a much more perilous positon.

This helped a lot. Thank you very much for reminding me about Legends 5. I know what I'll be re-reading tonight.

Could we possibly call this twisted teleportation spell they used a form of darker magic? I mean, from memory, once a guardian fell, the rest of the council became weak for a period of time; that, to me, says that the connection was strong. So, perhaps this is a spell that temporarily links souls or minds together some how? I don't think darker magic is beyond the council; just look at Meryl Winterstorm. They also fought demons, so, maybe they learnt a thing or two from them?

I actually own that volume and raised a question for me as well. According to lore before hand the council worked really hard to mask the various appearances of demons, yet the one chick talks about the people in her land whispering about thinking it was demons. How did they keep said rumor from spreading if it already reaches ears by second hand?

It was probably less about keeping people ignorant of demons' very existence, and more along the lines of concealing the fact that said demonic incursions were part of a coordinated effort by a demonic army to invade Azeroth rather than just another frightening anomaly along the lines of angry ghosts and the like. There wasn't really much harm in demons being relegated to the status of one more unprovable bogeyman that the rural hicks and commoners whispered about whenever something particularly creepy happened.

As long as demonic attacks weren't allowed to take root and spread to the point of the general populace correlating them as part of an invasion, the Council was doing its job of keeping the real nature of the threat a secret.
