Arthas with his summoning minions reminds me of Yorick(LoL) and I guess Sylvanas will be the same female frostcentered archer you find in every DOTA game.

Didn't get a chance to play test anything, but I sat in on the panel. It's massively different from DotA, HoN, DotA 2, and LoL. No last hitting, towers are just stumbling blocks (no more tower hugging), summonable creeps you've killed in the jungle, siege hero class, and mounts replace boots. It's basically redefining everything.

It's dumbing down the basic concept while adding in badass meta stuff, so overall I'd sya this is the most excited I've been about MOBA in awhile.

Also, on a sidenote, Gabe Newell was at the Con (shook hands with him on his way out the door so it wasn't a figment of my imagination), so we'll see how DotA 2 evolves from this.

Well, I just watched the panel on the replay thing, and while I don't really know DotA-type games I'll do my best to give an impression of it
  • I must say, it sounds fun to me
  • Towers are apparently weaker than in standard DotA type games
  • Towers have ammo. It regenerates out of combat. If they run out of ammo they shut down, leaving them vulnerable
  • Items are very much simplified from Dota-type games. They all fit on a single menu. Recipes for upgrades are gone
  • Only three stats; health, attack power and mastery
  • Mastery adjusts cooldown lengths, I think
  • There are 'ogre camps' that either side can conquer
  • Conquering the ogre camp replaces some of the Creeps with Ogres, which are more powerful
  • The big boss-type thing in the middle of the map no long just gives you a buff or items. It actually joins your cause and follows you around
  • No more 'killshots'. Gone
  • Everyone who assists with killing a hero gets a 'Takedown'. Doesn't matter if you got the killshot or not
  • Siege-class heroes are ultra-good against towers
  • Support heroes don't really work in solo battles, but are designed to be absolutely crucial in group battles.
  • The games are designed to last less time. Average internal game time is ~20 minutes
  • Multiple maps, apparently

We did try to get in line to play DOTA this afternoon, but found out there are way tooooo many people lining up, much more than D3 and MOP. It's like we might need to wait for 1 hr to get a chance on that so we just passed it.

Some information, for those interested:

http://www.sc2mapster.com/announcements/blizz-con-2011/

It's the best compilation on the net, imo.

Also, why this BlizzCon was the best, in 30 seconds:

Crossed Swords

Well let's speculate/discuss/share wanted heroes for Blizzard DoTA.

During the Art Panel they shared a lot of possible heroes and I think they mentioned that all of the heroes at Blizzcon 2010 would still be in the game they were just being reworked.

Warchief Thrall(Black armor) is a known hero and of the list of possible heroes Shaman Thrall(cataclysm variant) was shown. Personally I think that a character shouldn't get 2 heroes, Ghost Kerrigan is in the same position but I doubt it will hapen because of Nova.

I think that Varian could easily work as a hero, he has easily recognizable armor and has become the Alliance poster child. I am pretty certain that Heroic Leap would be an ability of his and then possibly a sunder armor like ability because he had that in his short story.

I also would like to see some older Alliance heroes, Lothar would be awesome but I doubt he(or Danath) would make it with Varian in there as a human Warrior.

I personally rather have Grom as a hero than Garrosh.

I highly doubt that we will see another Paladin hero but Bolvar or Turalyon would be awesome if instead of being Spport they were a tank.

I also think that a pet hero would fit and would go with Blizzard wanting to make the heroes unique, Rexxar or Tyrande could work well in my opinion.

I really want to see Kel'thuzad and Jaina make it in as well and I think they would be able to fit in well.

Also do you guys think that all of the roles will have the same number of heroes like what we saw at Blizzcon? I kind of hope that some roles have more heroes then others.

They should have the lost vikings, but they act as one unit like the dwarven mortar team from WCIII.

Needs less Warcraft, more other stuff. Dark Wanderer, Blackthorne, Fenix, etc.

Deckard Cain in his prime would actually be pretty badass.

I think the Lost Vikings would be interesting, I wonder how exactly they would stay interesting though, because I think if they acted as one unit and just stuck together as though they were glued together it would be boring.

If they don't end up making Tyreal a hero, I will kick Blizzard in the jimmies.

Some other ideas:

Cho'gall
Tichus Findlay in the Thor
Andariel
Lothar!
A Fel Reaver :o

Also more hero theory crafting, what kindof abilities would you like to see with the heroes or what kind of hero should they be.

If this game ends up having as many heroes as the original DotA or LoL for that matter I'd play the shit out of it.

Well, actually I'll play it as long as Chen Stormstout is there.

Blizzard DOTA is 100% free. Blizzard said it is playable with the trial/gimpy free version of SCII.

You can play the full Blizzard DotA with the free Sc2 Trial so yeah its a smart way of making it free and still part of Sc2.
