Even the article I cited makes the same case - Parker was supposed to be a normal geek, and having his parents turn out to be secret agents or some shit is stupid.

Having his parents, who didn't raise him, be something not considered normal doesn't change peter in the slightest .

Yeah, I remember, I watched the movie too. In the cartoon it was a running cliche all the time that he'd run out of webbing at the most crucial moments because he didn't remember to pack enough webbing and never knew when he was running out until it was too late. You're a scientist Peter Parker, but a fucking gauge on that thing!

Just got back from watching the film with my ladyfriend, and I got to say, it really did exceed my expectations. I thought it would be 'just another reboot', kinda like the Incredible Hulk, but I (and the ladyfriend) actually ended up liking it.

I really like how they really put effort into this film because I think one of the film's strong points is the plot. They didn't go the lazy way and just do a modified copy of Raimi's origin story, but they made their own.

One of the things I liked about this movie was Peter's conflict with Uncle Ben. In the Raimi film, Peter never fought or argued with him, but in this one, you really see them and when ("surprise") Uncle Ben dies, you really feel sorry for Peter as he really was guilty for his death AND he was a dick to his uncle.

Surprisingly, I didn't like how they portrayed Aunt May. First of all, she's supposed to be around, what, 60 years old? She should've had grey/white hair. But that's just me being picky. I just didn't like the actor that portrayed her character. I don't know if I can describe it, but she didn't seem like "Aunt May" to me at all. She looked more like a 40-year-old overprotective woman.

Gwen Stacy's dad (the cop dude) was one of my favourite characters. His conflict and suspicion towards Spider-Man, even going as far as to issue a manhunt, was probably one of the most tense things in the movie. And let's be honest, it's more realistic. What Captain/Liutenant/Comissioner wouldn't be suspicious of a super-powered guy in leotards swinging around the city and beating up bad guys? At the end of the movie, he turns out to be a likable character, but I won't spoil it for the ones who haven't seen the movie.

Doctor Connors was also an interesting character. He actually had a motivation for doing what he did (evil villain stuff that I won't spoil) instead of just randomly becoming a lizard with no human thoughts and killing everyone. What I didn't like was how they gave him *spoilers* a double personality *end spoilers*, which pretty much was useless and the movie would've been no different if they didn't include it. I know why people are complaining about how he doesn't have a snout, but I kinda understand why they did it. It's because having a snout would make Lizard's facial expressions hard to animate (especially when he talks, as having a snout means having no lips), and with a flat, albeit IMHO ugly (they could've done better), face, they could animate human expressions.

Andrew Garfield really surprised me with his portrayal as Peter Parker. I really thought that Tobey McGuire was the only guy in the world who could portray the character, but now I'm convinced that Garfield fits the role perfectly. He's another Peter Parker, but a Peter Parker nonetheless. I like how he didn't just try to copy Tobey's portrayal, but took it in his own direction instead, which worked very well. Think of it as like a Michael Keaton and Christian Bale Batman comparison (though, I dislike Bale's Batman, mainly because of the throat cancer voice).

The acrobatics and stunts were amazing and wowed me and my ladyfriend. Hell, it even convinced me to look for any Parkour groups here in Madrid.

All in all, I think that many of us were wrong in thinking that this movie would not meet standards and suck. It was a really good movie, and I think Sony took the right decision instead of going for Spider-Man 4. The Amazing Spider-Man feels like a breath of fresh air in an otherwise saturated franchise.
