I'm almost certain it'll be a middling-mediocre movie, and it's just that the marketing, development and the backlash against its critics have resulted in it being popular to vote it down.

I'm sure there are some people who downvoted it because "Grr, all female cast.", but mostly I'm guessing it's just a snowball effect of shitting on a generic reboot.

You have too much faith in the internet.

Maybe, but I like to believe I'm a half-decent judge of these things.

My guess if the bulk of the critical reception to this movie, when actual reviews come out, will consist of "Eh, it's okay-ish, if you like these actresses and the original Ghosbusters, you'll probably like this.", bookended by a few "If you don't think this is the coolest shit, you're misogynistic filth and/or transphobic MRAs" and "It's complete shit and the only people who like it are SJW shills pushing a feminist agenda.".

If it releases, and it turns out it's shit on a shit sandwich, or a timeless masterpiece, then you can point out this post, and I'll owe you an apology.

It just looks flat out horrible. ID4 2 also looks horrible, but that became popular as a trashy movie, whereas Ghostbusters is considered by most to be a hallmark of 80s popcorn cinema.

The backlash is mostly due to the god awful trailer and in the in-your-face absurdity of Hollywood disemboweling itself on the quest for more money.

Of course clickbaiters from all sides will have a field day with this.

So your takeaway is that it'll be shitty as opposed to just mediocre?

An apology from a Canadian is worth less than the Canadian dollar though.

The more I see of this movie the less I want to watch it. I watched a video on Chris Hemsworth's character and I can't help cringing. Not that I don't think Chris Hemsworth is a fine actor and could do comedic roles fine. Its just that the character itself, basically a moronic idiot, particularly in the female only team feels... cringe worthy.

I just don't understand what is supposed to be empowering or innovative about simply flipping gender stereotypes on their heads and having the same bullshit the other way around.

And in the case of Ghostbusters it doesn't even fit. Ok, so Bill Murray's character was a tiny bit of a womanizer, through wit. That's about where the male stereotypes stop. And their secretary was not an objectified sexy sidekick.

Yet somehow, based on the trailer, these women have to act out cliché "women in an ensemble in a Hollywood comedy" scenes, or scream at the devil in the white woman. Whoever thought this would be a) funny or b) a score for empowered diversity in Hollywood.

We agree.

This comes off as a terrible attempt at pandering.

''What if we made Spider-Man a DJ to be hip and cool like the youth?''

''What if we had female Ghostbusters to be hip and cool with the youth? And they're fat and make jokes about men cause I heard this is the new trend among these millennials. Put some girl pwr in advertisements too. Male buyers will love it.''

Sony logic. Bankruptcy follows

You can have a female cast without the movie being bad but this movie would look dumb even if they replaced the characters with the old cast.

This cracks me up:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...er-very-889787

Even Melissa McCarthy hates the trailer. (and yes, that part 100% confused me because the trailer was acting like this was a sequel and not a remake)

Funny thing is that she thinks it's an issue of confusion and not portraying the narrative correctly, when it's really due to flat humour and cringeworthy pandering.

To be fair, I think it's both, but she's in the movie so she isn't going to see the later part

*sees Ghostbusters trending on Twitter*

Oh, the Angry Video Game Nerd said he isn't going to see the new Ghostbusters movie and the internet is outraged (OUTRAGED I TELL YOU!) about how much of a misogynistic sexist pig he is.

*sigh*

Nontheless, he's right. Stop talking about these atrocious remakes in the name of quick cash instead of original writing and risk-taking.
