Whedon apparently talked about doing a reboot of the series if the TV special does well. Nobody is sure if he was serious or joking.

I couldn't imagine a reboot unless they use the same group.

If Joss was serious, I believe that was the plan. Same cast, with all of the deaths undone and whatnot.
