Batman's toys are cars and bat-shaped boomerangs. Iron Man's are a series of metallic microorganisms that live inside the hollow of his bones and form a suit of armor over his body on command, which he can communicate with through the extensive modifications he's made to his brain.

While far more outlandish, I actually find Iron Man to be a more believable character in comics terms, because rather than inventing new gizmos, he became the gizmo upon realizing the gizmos he was inventing were too complex for a normal human to use.

Ra's al Ghul and Mandarin are similar. Both have Chinese ancestry and both like green.

Those are traits shared by like ten thousand vastly different characters. I'm not sure why I'm surprised but I am.

That must itch like hell. There's being a genius and then there's making up crazy shit that would suit any magical hero better than Iron Man. Isn't this the Ultimate-marvel Iron Man only?

No, this is the bleeding edge armor Tony added in the first issue of the Stark Resilient arc after losing his Extremis abilities. It's basically Fraction applying all that crazy science stuff he and Reed do for once (Stark's deciding to actually use science to change the world for the better, for instance).

Using nanotech-assembled armor isn't any more outlandish than "unstable molecules" and "Pym particles" tbh, so I don't know why it should be such a departure. The dude already had a suit of armor which repaired itself with nanites like skin which he could command with his mind, why not take it one step further and make the suit literally a second skin?

Or Sun-Tzu Liao, Citan Uzuki and Harold Lee. ALL VERY SIMILAR.

I have no problem with the nanites all by themselfes, it's the "stores a suit thick like a brick, probably weighing kilos in the hundreds in his bones"-part. I can kinda see the storage part being okay, but you need LOTS of nanites for a suit like that and i doubt there's even bone to store them and surely not enough hollow parts in them. I'd probably have less of a time buying that if he kept it literally beneath or on his skin as a literal second skin.

Also there's really nothing wrong with just putting the suit on, there's no need to go all funky about it by merging him with it.

I myself thought the whole “the suit is housed in my bone marrow!” bit to be a little lame, though I think the whole reason for it was so that the writer could have him quick-change on the fly.

Crossed Swords (War2)

I don't like his suit being stored in his body that much. I don't think there is anything wrong with it, I just like the idea of suit being something that he needs to put on and without it he is vulnerable.

Don't you dare compare the great Ra's al Ghul with that lame, cheesy Mandarin.

And they've already come back to that with Rhodey being Iron Man in the newest arc. Tony making the leap and combining all this crazy tech he already has (Extremis, RT, nanomaterial) just makes sense to me.

I'm pretty sure there's an Iron Man anime. If that's not his transformation sequence in it, I will be extremely disappointed.
