Holy shit Handclaw, I didn't know you were into 3d modelling! I love the design. The only recomendation I have is that you extend it a little. I think a battleship could benefit from being notably bigger and not just taller then the average.

Crossed Swords (War2)

I hope that it looks like an equal to the Horde's Juggernaut.

I don't know anything about 3D modeling so I can't really comment on the quality but I think it looks good so far.

I mean, it's fine being worthless, but you don't have to be annoying as well.

Do me a favor: Pick one, and stick with it.

Suggestion!

Due to the fact that the Alliance makes great use of gnomish planes, gyrocopters and other flying machines, would it be a good idea to make the alliance flagship an airship carrier? Widen it and remove the masts and put a runway on it, I say.

Several changes, including wider hull, different lionmane (it resembles the alliance lion far more from the front, have to improve its look from the side though), and extended frontal plate.

Well, yeaaah... If you had your own mod for warcraft 3 and a lack of a team and you require new models, you start to dabble in new waters. ;P Though, obviously, I'm far from an expert and there is still a lot to learn for me.

And yeah, I wasn't that happy with the width either. I widened it a bit for now, though, also not too much. After all, "boats are long and thin for a reason" ;P

Btw. out of fun, I imported the human WoW model to compare sizes and this was the result.

I'll try my best. Obviously, I don't want people to yell "Horde Bias!"

Though, it doesn't help that the Juggernaught is far more unique from the start... Still, my aim is to have a resemblance with the old units from wc2 and wc3.

This crossed my mind before, but this takes it too far for my actual aim: having an evolved old-school battleship in WoW. In addition, the alliance turning their gunships into carriers already goes into this direction.

But maybe later as a seperate version.

It doesn't quite come off as long to me. I think it'd look better if it were a bit longer. Other than that it is awesome.

Darkmoon Card: Warlords

It's amazing.

EDIT: Maybe a more sloped ram?

That wasn't serious. It is longer than it is wide, nut thaaat much.

Anyway, I worked a bit further on this before you wrote new comments, so here is the current state of things:
  • elongated the hull (still pondering if I should make it even wider)
  • adding swivel turret bases (position ain't final)
  • reworked a bit the shape of the ram (it may become longer
  • roughly repositioned the masts (position ain't final)

This is very quickly becoming my favourite thread on Scrolls. Changes are very good and its a bloody nice model. I would reccomend pushing the far left mast more central on its raised platform but you've already claimed that masts aren't final.

As an avid 3d modeller myself, its always a pleasure to view another modellers work. Watching this with interest.

Crossed Swords (War2)

It looks really good so far.

One suggestion I have is to add some more metal plating to the wood areas to brake up the wood. Long strips like on the Gunship.

Man Hand, that ship is amazing to look at, seeing it from the front makes it seem very indimidating!

I do have a few ideas of my own regarding its design, though they are fairly minor (the picture, using your scetch, can be found in the attached file)

the points are as follows:

1. a flag pole (with a stormwind banner) behind the bridge of the shit, to underline its status as a flagship and a ship of the line.

2. a minor mast (I do not remember the naval term) on the front of the ship, much like the one on blizzards newest alliance ship model. While not always needed, most warships used to have them + it makes it look even more intimidating

3. Rope-ladders at all the masts (purely for the looks, though I am sure you've already considered this )

4. A rope that attatches the flagpole, the frontsail and all the other masts to eachother - this is meant to make the entire ship seem more connected with itself

looking at your newest model version, I would also consider making the ship a bit longer, so that the mast closest to the bridge can be moved forward a bit, as it is now the bridge looks a bit crowded. I also think that the steamengine weal could be a tad larger (like it is on your concept art) - speaking of the steam-weal, I think it needs a pair of exhausts

as always, the above are only ideas

This is looking great. For some reason, it reminds me of dwarven steam punk vehicles, etc. You should how us three versions of a hull so we can see how it can improve in relative terms.

The turtles were captured/raised by the Stormreaver Clan, which doesn't exist anymore. Blizzard could bring them back, of course, but their omission could be explained that it was the Stormreaver's talent in the same way that the Dragonmaw could enslave dragons.

I intended to do just that, but with the texture. Though, looking at the gunship again, I noticed how it is okay by today's standards to model that metal plating. ;o

Hey there, great that you like it.

Concerning your suggestions:

1. Possible, but maybe not like that.

2. Difficult to implent, imo, because of the frontal cannon. While the new alliance ship model has it, it has only the metal eagle at the front. The battleship on the other hand has a cannon built in and so there needs to be space behind. Also, the overall shape of the lion head leaves no room for that either. ^^'

3. Yeah, considered that. I may add some, maybe not. Right now I'm very careful with what I add, for one, since I try to stay close to the old wc2 sprite and wc3 model.

4. Anything related to ropes should be added in the final stages. I'm far from that.

Though, although I appear to be dismissive on the suggestions a bit, I'm just slow to act on things such this and I need my time to think about them. ^^'

Concerning the size: I am stilll unsure about the overall shape of the whole hull. So much, that I might end up redoing it again. I actually think that it needs to be wider. Perhaps both, wider and longer (though, not too much, as I still try to recatch the shape of the old sprite for nostalgia reasons.)

What I also ponder about is to maybe remove one of the masts. But dunno. Gotta make some more sketches for that.

(and yeah, exhausts will be added. )

As I mentioned before, need to check on the hull, so yeah, will try some sketches. ;P

Anyway, here is the latest version: I didn't change too much here. But I started to try to add the floors on the inside, but that's what made my think about redoing the whole thing in the first place...

Also, I am a biiiit slowed down from getting an alliance char to level 85 for the world event.
