If Brazilians (who don't speak Spanish) count and Mexicans count (they're in North America) then the Quebecois should count. Haitians too.

Latino and latin american are terms with ethnic connotations as much (if not more so) as linguistic connotations. While a strict adherence to what's in the term unquestionably supports your position, in common parlance, its use seems restricted to Spanish (and you're right, Brazilian Portuguese in the case of Brazil) speakers, and more often than not to persons in a certain range of tan. Again, consider that its derogatory form of "spic" is unlikely to see much use with black Creole-speakers or white French speakers. Hence, technically correct, but not in practice. |

Let me correct that somewhat. I'd go all in. -White/European
I'm sure I missed a few as well, but for America this should cover just about everybody. Origin would define country of origin. Example: A British-Nigerian that immigrates to the US. Last edited by Mertico; 03-23-2017 at 05:02 PM.. |

![]() Fun fact the term "Latin America" was born in France and was first used as propaganda during the French invasion of Mexico.
Latin was supposed to imply a mutual culture between French and Spanish speaking Mexicans and exclude the Anglo Saxon so. |

![]() I... authentically did not mean to set off a rabbit trail with "Hispanic". I apologize.
And Cantus, I should not have taken such a tone with you over a topic so frivolous. I was probably just upset about the Horde fleet in the Second War. You do a great job whooping up the spam bots and attending to us, all while still balancing a normal life. I'll try to act less childish toward you in the future. And also I have been drinking alcohol tonight. I downloaded Battleship on my phone because I miss Darrowmere. But then my son stole my phone to play Ninja Turtles. White Hispanic. You guys rock! |

![]() (I generally post here every time I drink with my wife, and I use the moment to hyperbolize for the sake of personal entertainment. But also, a couple of drinks puts me in a better mood, and you guys deserve that.)

![]() You start with the bad stuff, but then you drink the GOOD stuff. John 2:10.
Also a metaphor for the New Covenant, but you know. Different thread. |

Also, it should always be said, it's a team effort. The other Staff have done and continue to be huge support for each other. Whether doing mechanical maintenance, providing cogent opinions (including slapping each other [myself most certainly included] upside the head where necessary), or making shit fun around here, they're core to everything. |

![]() I imagine most non-teetotalers (do we have any teetotalers on SoL?) have at some point.
And unless someone's gets incredibly aggressive when they're drunkposting, that's a-okay*. |

![]() I was actually named after the French emperor of Mexico, despite my family being neither Mexican nor French.

Also, Cantus: I had a bot post some spam on profile-thingy a few months ago. I was going to say something when asked a page or so ago, but totally forgot. |

![]() "Son, never trust a man who doesn’t drink because he’s probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They’re the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They’re usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they’re a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can’t trust a man who’s afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It’s damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he’s heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl."

![]() I find this to be an odd question. Is someone saying they are drinking a cause for concern? I only find it odd because I have a few beers every now and then throughout the week and I don't get asked if I am having issues so Im just curious
