Default The Supertabulous Movie Thread

Here is where we can come and discuss the latest movies we've seen, our favorite movies, our least favorite movies, whatever!

I saw Argo the other day, it was pretty good I thought. It's crazy to see Ben Afflack being this super badass director now. I didn't leave it with my mind blown, but it was definitely a good movie, though I think part of the reason was the day before I FINALLY got around to seeing No Country For Old Men, which was one of those movies you can't stop thinking about after you watch it. So I couldn't help but compare it to that.

Hoping to check out The Master next week. Paul Thomas Anderson is one of my favorite screenwriter/directors, anyone seen it yet?

Ready go!
But, how can we discuss warcraft movies if none has been released yet?

I saw Looper yesterday. It was pretty good, even though I don't like that style of handling time travel. But I don't like any kind of time travel that isn't handled with split timelines and a multiverse. But, accepting that it wasn't that, it was good.

Usually I agree with you. The notable exception I can think of is Weisman’s Gargoyles, which handled non-multiverse time travel extremely well and logically.

Taken 2 is not a good movie unless you are a big fan of Liam Neeson and want to see him kick ass.

Farewell My Queen is good, Diane's performance is impressive, but as a movie it's lack of climax.

Just saw it today. I'm a longtime Rian Johnson fan, and definitely thought this was a good entry. Admittedly, a few things didn't quite make sense (like, why did they kill Joe's wife if murder is so hard to hide in the future? Wouldn't it make more sense to incapacitate her and then send her back to a Looper?). Beyond that, I had a great time.

I think my favorite Johnson movie is still Brick, however.

It seemed pretty clear to me that they weren't planning on shooting his wife. It looked like they saw her and shot her before they actually thought about it.

I can't wait to see Lincoln! Daniel Day-Lewis is going to do a great job.

I saw it on Tuesday! I think I was the only person in the theatre that thought the ending was a bit anti-climatic. Was hoping for a few shots of the Rainmaker blowing things up.

I definitely feel like its going to be an overly romanticized presentation of it. I mean, its a movie about Abraham Lincoln by Steven Spielberg, how could it not be? Not that that means it'll be bad.

James Spader is in it, apparently. I'm a fan of his.

I was expecting a happy ending and was pleasantly surprised. I was pretty convinced that once Joseph Gordon-Levitt realized that Bruce Willis would only create the future he was trying to destroy, that Bruce Willis would thus realize it too. He would decide against it in his mind and thus disappear because his problem was solved. I'm glad it wasn't, though.

Also thought the looper's leader was totally Jeff Bridges for about an hour of the film!

I almost did too. My first thought was Jeff Bridges but I knew it wasn't quite right.

That's what happens when you give Jeff Daniels a beard.

I probably wouldn't want to watch it if it didn't have Daniel Day-Lewis in it, honestly.

Well... if it got good reviews I'd probably want to check it out.

Saw Alex Cross today.

Not as horrible as I had thought it would be. Not great, but not bad either.

Many people hate this movie, and I understand why. I like The Mummy movie from 1999. Come at me bro!

That's OK, Mallrats is one of my favorite movies even though it's considered the worst of Kevin Smith's.

Nothing wrong with that! I still play Pokemon for example and my parents think that gaming is something younger people do (I'm just 16, goddamnit!). They absolutely don't like Warcraft, they sometimes think that I am too absorbed into it (especially when I browse on this forum and my dad walks past me).

Ontopic: Saw RED this weekend, it was a fun movie!
