Default WoW Monopoly

So this showed up in my Amazon Gold Box, so I grabbed it Just arrived today. Actually really impressed, it's very well done. The Community Chest/Chance cards are fantastic - they all have great sketches of murlocs on them doing various things, and of course all relate to WoW stuff (ex: "Equipment Repair - Pay 50g", "Kill Deathwing - Earn 200g", "Use your hearthstone to get out of jail free", etc). The pieces are all pretty great as well.

So anyone else pick this up?

Any chance you can tell us how the Properties/Railroads/Utilities break down, please please please? I promise to save any complaining for a different thread.

Don't have it handy right now, but I believe the railroads were all modes of travel - so Deeprun Tram, Gallion (boat), The Dark Portal, and something else that I forget, maybe a Zepplin or something. I forget what the other stuff was, but I think there were like "Gnomeregan Waterworks" and some Goblin equivalent for one of the other utilities.

Edit: This site has some pictures:

This is how awesome the cards are:

Sometimes I've wondered about adding Monopoly rules for taking another person's properties through military force, something like playing Monopoly with a small element of Risk added. I had been thinking in terms of a historical-based Imperial Monopoly (with India and Hong Kong, for example), but such would also feel appropriate in a Warcraft setting. Or possibly add "racial bonus" rules, with each player choosing a specific race and gaining some specific advantage.

EDIT: Should I make a new thread for this kind of talk? I have an itch to talk about custom ruling this game, but you might not want that in this thread.
Okay, I did some Youtube research. This video has a blurrtastic unboxing of the game---so far it's the best source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkkbVoOZvD4

I cross-referenced footage from this terribly annoying commercial, or joke commercial whatever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CK4EF-UYygk

And this is what I have gleaned about the board (minus chance and community chest spaces). Note that I could be wrong, but I think I'm seeing...

12 Is probably Nagrand because it has a gazzilion floating waterfalls and the other zones are also TBC zones.

19 Is almost certainly Vash'njir (or however the fuck u spell it), it isn't quite a two word, but it was blurry so u probably mistook an apostrophe for a blank space, also all other zones are Cata zones.

Thanks! Well, here are a couple of rough ideas:

Warfare in World of Warcraft Monopoly

* "Go to Jail" is now "Go to War" (or "Go Raiding", or whatever you want to call it). Instead of placing your token on the Jail space, you continue moving your token across the board in "Raid Mode". If you want, use a new token specifically for raid mode (I have some artillery and ship pieces from a Diplomacy game that I would use, if I ever tried this in regular Monopoly).

* When in Raid Mode, you don't pay money or earn money for anything.

* As per normal Jail rules, you leave Raid Mode by rolling doubles or by paying $50 to get out of it. If you don't roll doubles in these turns, then you have three turns to wage war. After the end of your third turn, you must pay the $50 and return to normal mode.

* Unlike normal Jail rules, it is easier to enter Raid Mode. You can use a "Get Out of Jail Free" card to enter Raid Mode or extend it (you can still use the card to get out, of course). You can also choose to enter Raid Mode if you land on "Jail - Just Visiting", but this is optional. The "Go to Jail" space and cards are still mandatory.

* If you land on unowned property while in Raid Mode, you may claim it for free. However, the property automatically falls into Mortage as you take it (by being conquered by your forces).

* In Raid Mode, when you land on a property owned by someone else, you have the option of Attacking it. There should be a set price for armies, like $200 each (or higher, if you want fewer armies available), and the order goes something like this:

~~~
1) First, the attacking player buys as many armies as he wants for the battle. The attacker always gets one army for free.
2) Then, the defender buys as many armies as he wants for the battle.
3) Then, any other players may buy armies to give to the attacker.
4) Then, any other players may buy armies to give to the defender. After this, no more armies can be added to the battle.
5) The battle happens with dice, like a Risk battle. This means the attacker can use up to three dice, the defender can use up to two dice, defender wins ties, etc.
6) If the attacker kills all of the defender's armies, then the defender uses any farms and tower on the property as an extra army each. If they are defeated, they are destroyed and removed from the board.
7) If the defender wins the battle, he keeps the property. Any destroyed tower/farms remain destroyed but can be rebought later. Game continues as normal.
8) If the attacker wins the battle, then the invaded property is placed in Mortgage (since it's been devastated) and given to the attacker. If the defender had previously had a monopoly with this property, then any farms/towers on the connected properties are worthless until the monopoly is formed again. If the owner doesn't want to take that chance, he can sell the farms/towers instead.
9) Armies that survived are removed from the board. You do not get money back for them. After all, soldiers and mercenaries have to be paid, right?
~~~

* You know the rule about going to Jail if you roll three doubles in a row? Well, if this happens, then when you enter Raid Mode you may automatically choose to attack any one of the three spaces you landed on during those three sets of doubles. It is treated as if you landed on this space at the end of your turn, and you may start your Raid Mode by attacking it.

Player vs. Player in World of Warcraft Monopoly

* If you land on a space occupied by another player, then either player may choose to attack the other.

* If this happens, roll the dice 1 vs. 1. Reroll for ties.

* The winner "loots" $100 from the loser (you can change this number) and sends him to any corner space of the board. If the loser was in Raid Mode, he returns to ordinary mode. The loser is also unaffected by the corner space he lands on---he doesn't get $200 if he lands on Go, he doesn't go to Jail/War by landing on those spaces, and he doesn't win free money by landing on Free Parking.

* You can be in a PvP regardless of whether you are in Raid Mode or not. Despite being in Raid Mode, the player is able to earn money or pay money in this event (by winning or losing the PvP).

Blizzard did not release a World of Warcraft version of Chess, Risk, Diplomacy, Settlers of Catan, or 1313 Deadend Drive. They released a World of Warcraft version of Monopoly. That is what exists.

Oh, I forgot about that. :redface:

Only saw it a couple of times in novelty stores. Wasn't willing to pay the 70-something dollars, or whatever it was.

So why shell out money for crap produced by another company (not Blizzard) just because they got the rights to slap an unrelated theme on an already awful fucking game. You take that money and you go buy a copy of Lords of Waterdeep, it's for your own good.
