I call BS on CVG.
That is the biggest point of the entire arguement. If Blizzard wanted to announce a StarCraft MMO they could save it till BlizzCon, not announced it as a RTS Invitational, which is going to have all of the best RTS players from around the world.

Its like promoting Hockey at the Super Bowl.

I gotta wonder tho, if they did a MMORPG, at least as far as Terrans go, wouldn't most ppl pick a Ghost so they could stealth and sniper-shot people? It's not like a Rogue where you have to be right in there in melee, Ghosts are Snipers. And of course, Nuclear Launches (which probably wouldn't be in the game unless they were done some wierd, different way ) But even in a general sense, there are bound to be favorites that will crowd out other classes more-so than in WoW. I mean, who wants to be a Dragoon or a Medic?

Even still though, there are no generic classes in SC like in WoW. Terran vs. Protoss for example are radically different (though within themselves they do have some semblance of traditional MMO classes... Marine, Firebat, Medic, Ghost, etc). So I don't know how they'd even balance all that.

I think it's an RTS as well. But as for a SCMMO, it would have to be a MMOFPS, for many reason. But the major duo are: not a rehash of WoW and therefore infringe on its terf and the class system just isnt made that way.

Right, a MMORPG doesn't even work with the universe. Every class would be a hunter MMOFPS ala Planetside is definately the way they would go. Aside from that, I think there are a few things that would be necessities (or else the game would be pretty lame from a SC Universe perspective), that being particularly vehicles and vehicular combat, and starships/ship combat.

Not to speak of the Zerg.

Oh, Zerg'll be an ever-present threat who at some point launches an attack of low-level, easily killable mobs at every major planet on the servers while Cerebrates spam empty threats from the hive cluster over the general chat channel.

And every Zerg will either be very high-level or very low (which almost kinda makes sense for the Swarm based on the nature of their reliance on large numbers of disposable troops). So, players will encounter them in the early game, then pretty much never see them again till the last ten levels or so.

Hell no! The zerg would be playable. Hasn't anyone ever played Natural Selection or Alien vs Predator 2?
...Come to think of it, if Blizzard could just take the AvP2 formula and adapt it to StarCraft, I'd cream my pants. I love that game.

AvP2 was good, but the Aliens were...

how should i say it?

Underpowered? Overpowered? Something in the between, highly situational.

The Predators suffered the same problem, they were imba in 40% of cases, they sucked in the rest.

Humans were the most powerful race thanks to EMP granades and Sniper Rifles.

I fucking loved those sniper rifles, even if i only managed to hit the tow of a predator, his leg would explode.

Balance FTW.

Bill Roper has commented on the rumor in a podcast. (Yay for Blizzard Employees who haven't worked there in 4 years!) He thinks it's a SC2.

Just putting that out there.

Pft.

It's more accurate than my opinion.

I found another thing that´s even more accurate:

Quote:
Recently, Vivendi gave a presentation to Wall Street. A lot of things were mentioned, but this announcement was a standout: "All Blizzard franchises will become MMOGs." And when they said all, they meant ALL! Along with the bold announcement, they also claim that they now have a model to come up with MMOGs in 3 years, and that they are also backed up by a $50 Million budget.

They would be presenting two types of MMOG markets aimed for everyone from the busy executive to the hardcore gamers. The first is the long session games (more than two hours per session) and short session games (less than two hour sessions.) They will also be rolling out a bunch of short session games under the Sierra Online brand. An example is FreeStyle, a pick-up basketball online game scheduled for 2007 release. No details on pricing model for the short session games were announced though.

The "more games and less gamers per game" scenario is something that seems to not be a threat to the company, well if stockbrokers knew more about gaming, then maybe they would have booed the idea right at that moment (ha, ha)!

Blizzard quickly denied the rumors by saying "that rumor is not true in regard to Blizzard...We (Blizzard) believe that the rumor circulating about this subject is based on a misinterpretation of information provided to industry analysts." They also denied that they are developing any MMOGs as of the moment by saying loud and clear that they " do not currently have any MMO development plans beyond the upcoming expansion for World of Warcraft, and furthermore, we don't have any intentions to focus on only one genre or platform with our future games." Nice move indeed!
It´s not gonna be a Starcraft MMO, that´s for sure.

Edit: This forum word filter is really retarded.

It was Harcore, you already fixed that but it´s true that we had a spammers wave awhile back that were spouting all kinds of "harcore ***" crap and whatnot.

My bad.
