Default Anduin training with Velen

I just want to get something clear here. In Wolfheart, Anduin leaves Stormwind with Velen, but by the time of Cataclysm (Twilight Highlands intro) Anduin is back at Stormwind keep.

I was doing the quest again with another character and I noticed how he says that Velen told him something about the Twilight's Hammer and then he pops his shield when the ambushers strike.

Is this dialog new? Blizzard started planning Anduin in advance? What are you thoughts about this?

Metzen pretty much said at Blizzcon that all the planning for Anduin came after Christie Golden used him in The Shattering.

So I'm not sure when the decision was made to have him go and train with Valen was made in relation to when the quests were developed so they may have updated the quest to reflect that as they've been working on the character, or it may have always been there. Can't remember well enough.

The Draenei are master mages. I wouldn't be surprised if they port him to the Exodar for study and he's back in Stormwind for dinner every night.

If training with Velen places Anduin in the same sphere of obscurity that Velen has enjoyed for the last four years, I'm fine with it, because that character sucks right now.

They should have Garrosh kill Anduin and send Varian into a murderous rampage. Yarr.

I'd rather have Varian kill Anduin WHILE ONE a murderous rampage. Metzen mentioned he wanted the "Trials of the High King" to be like the labors of Hercules. Hercules had to do those labors because he got piss drunk and murdered the shit out of his family.

I think that dialog has always been there. If I'm not mistaken, you can see him say the same dialog on one of the beta videos made by Jesse Cox.

I think Varian at that point would just off himself if he ever had a hand in Anduin's death, especially if he was the one that struck him down.

Considering what a big deal he made of unintentionally hurting Anduin, even though he wasn't hurt severely, I'll have to agree with you. Besides didn't he go through the nightelven ritual in order to better control himself?

At this point, I don't really care. I really, REALLY dislike the politically-correct sissy prince. He's like the love child of Jaina Proudmoore and Justin Bieber.

Only if doing so gains him the favor of the Titans and the ability to wield their powers.

So Varian has got to do Hercules stuff to become "High King"? (Can anyone remind me where this nonsense was mentioned?). Hercules had to redirect the flow of a river single-handedly right? Have Varian rebuild the Park district alone.

Hey! HEY!

Hercules had a loin cloth.

He probably took it off, but he had one.

Yeah I guess...Fine, you come up with something then! He could always build a city for the Stromgardians so they won't have to live in a hole in the ground...

Maybe Metzen was talking about the Disney Hercules...

...though I hope not. I hope it's more along the lines of the more heroic Hercules that was still incredibly flawed but favored by the gods.

I think that was just a general comparision.

Hercules was a friggin demi-god, the very son of Zeus himself. Varian dosen't quite measure up to that level of power. His feats will be on a more reasonable level.

Varian is the chosen of a wolf god and is capable of running through an entire forest for hours faster than mounted cavalry. His feats are quite Herculean.
