Honestly I always kinda wondered what things would of been like world wise if the US ever actually tried to expand its borders or force itself upon weaker countries by the time its military was one of the best in the world or when it was the only country with the atom bomb. Now days any world power trying anything like that would be so hindered that it'd be near impossible to make much headway.

MAD does not somehow make "USA could wipe out anyone!" wrong. And any amount of Nukes that do wipe out a nation will scourage the world of life anyway.

All things considered it could probably be done without the use of nukes as well, assuming we are trying to destroy and not occupy, with complete disregard to non-military casualties.

Especially considering a lot of the world basically outsources their defense to the US.

Our spending is ridiculously high to every other nation, and that yields its own benefits.

Of course, to be perfectly fair, a lot of that goes to the US troops, which are the best paid troops on the planet, as well as family support benefits. I think it was said last year (and I'll have to try and find the article) that the money required to pay the troops is more than what Britain and France pay on their entire military. And, large portions of that cash also goes to air relief efforts during things like the Japan incident.

But, you know, us greedy Americans, always helping out after disasters.

That would be highly unbelievable.

Dissident or not no one sane wants to nuke their own country, which would immediately paint those who used it as either crazy or foreign mercs, and the crazies are hardly rich enough to buy nukes (and I don't think those are actually sold, it's a myth) hence mercs hence international backlash against all of the bigger enemies of Iran.
