Cases are prioritized depending on severity. Point is, the sickest get the most attention. Cancer is a life threatening illness and hence cancer patients get to go to the front of the line. The people who go to the US to get treatment are hypochondriac rich people who just know that something is wrong with them despite what doctors have told them, or rich people with non-threatening illnesses that they want treated now instead of 3 months from now. You won't see people begging the paramedics to let them die instead of taking them to the hospital out of fear of the lifelong+ debt they're going to incur here like you do in the states.

And the various customers I've had to deal with who were also cancer victims. So, yeah.. You have your experiences, I have mine. .... And while we are on the subject, the whole debt thing isn't because not everyone has healthcare. It's because the medical system is fubar and needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. EVERYTHING gets so overcharged BECAUSE people don't have to pay for shit themselves, so when people without insurance have to foot the bill, they get royally fucked by the massive overpricing that hospitals do. And the hospitals do it because the insurance companies pay it. Last edited by Ferlion : 05-31-2012 at 12:38 AM. |

That said, reports have shown that less than 0.5% of Canadians get health care in the US, and of those only a quarter weren't in the United States for other reasons. In addition, a report released by Health Affairs says that the results of their study "do not support the widespread perception that Canadian residents seek care extensively in the United States. Indeed, the numbers found are so small as to be barely detectible relative to the use of care by Canadians at home." In addition, with regards to quality of cancer treatment, a 2004 report from Health Canada said that overall cancer incidence rates for males are slightly lower in Canada than in the U.S., largely because of lower prostate cancer rates. However, overall mortality rates in males are almost identical in the United States and Canada. In general, incidence rates in males are slightly higher in Canada than in developed countries as a whole, but mortality rates are slightly lower. Incidence and mortality rates for females were generally higher in Canada than in other developed countries, with the exception of the United States, which had rates that were generally comparable to those in Canada. Finally, the World Health Organization ranked Canada's health care system at 30th in the world, with the United States at 37th despite spending the most on health care. Canadian's life expectancy is at 81 years while American life expectancy is at 78 years. Canada's infant mortality rate is 4.5 while the US's is 6.9. For all your claims that there's a huge disparity between the availability of treatment between the US and Canada, the US only has .2 more doctors per thousand people than Canada. So yeah, the data disagrees with your anecdotes. Although I may as well close with an anecdote. My dad had an odd skin symptom at the start of may, and was seen by a family physician, referred to a specialist, and in two weeks time he saw the specialist, was diagnosed, and was treated on that same day, and he's in the Greater Toronto Area, one of the slower regions of Canada as far as wait times are concerned.

I just run to the fucking desert and hold out there for a few months, living off kangaroo meat. But seriously, Australia is proven to be a safe haven during zombie apocalypses. Major urban population zones are so sparse, there's plenty of room to move. Just go to one of the islands off the east coast or hold up in a country town near a good water and food supply (like I said, kangaroo meat is fucking delicious), and you'll be able to wait off the zombie horde for a few good years.

With limited access to medication I probably wouldn't last a month. If I did I'd be a burden on the group. However, if we wish to get "heroic" I'd travel with a small group by bicycle, armed with low caliber mid range weaponry. A crow bar and a hatchet, not for weapons but the tools that they are. Light weight coveralls and running sneakers. |

Sit in my room for about a month wondering why all of my favorite websites stopped posting content. After I figure out what happened... I dunno, Maybe I'll get around to watching Breaking Bad.

My first instinct was to hole up in a penthouse near a supermarket or a mall, my grandmas apartment for example. You know, places with loads of goods and maybe some valuables we could trade. But we also have a little house in the Italian countryside. It's remote enough to not get swarmed by zombies, we could grow our own food (got a lot of tomatoes, olive trees and shit in the vicinity) and just hold out. Problem would be getting there as the streets are probably jammed and Austria is very narrow, circumventing the autobahn through the mountains would take even longer. Not to mention we'd have to refuel at least twice. Also, the area is hilly. While it does have a flat roof, a good post for a look out, the hills and trees would hide zombies right till the moment they're on our doorsteps. Survivalcrafting ain't easy! It's actually really fucking tasty. And healthy for you too. Lots of good fats and heaps of protein.
The best part is kangaroos are, surprisingly, officially considered a pest here, so as long as you have a hunting license you can hunt them without prohibition.

My buddy lives there, says they are basically equal to our deer population here in the US. Might even be worse though if they are considered a pest.
