Default Expansion idea: War for Argus

War for Argus

Main features:
- Outland+ belf/draenei starting zones revamp
- New neutral race: Ethereals
- New class: Tinker
- Help the Army of Light wage war on one of the Legion worlds, Argus! Level from 90-95
- New capital city: Tempest Keep! The Naaru have prepared for this moment. They have since the events in Burning Crusade refurbished Tempest Keep for war and used it's magic to transport to Argus. The Exodar's beacon has been activated allowed the Horde and Alliance to transport their forces to Argus. The section where Void Reaver was will be for Alliance and the section where Solarion was is for Horde, the rest is for various other forces and ambassadors while the Naaru reside where Kael'thas was once.

Ethereals:

Background: The Ethereals are enigmatic race, often travelling and bartering with various races. Often remaining to their own factions such as the Consortium, the Ethereum and the Astralgan. The Ethereals were not always as they were, once they were one of the most advanced races in the universe. Their homeworld, K'aresh, was destroyed by Dimensius the All-Devouring and since then they have divided themselves to their factions for various amount of goals.

The Astralgan`s in particular are a rivals to the Consortium, aiming to acquire the most benefits for themselves. Their Trade prince, Tarahnal, leads them well and has now travelled to a floating isle not far from Outland to reap the benefits of it's resources for himself.

Starting zone: The floating island has been dubbed Tarahnal's plunder and as you help acquire resources you find that there are nearby demons. Tarahnal encourages you to pay no heed, but as you go on two other NPCs help you uncover a plot where Tarahnal is actually serving the Legion and is tricking Ethereals to help him. You oust him out and with the help of some Blood elves and Draenei that were scouting you choose your faction. One of your Ethereal friends likes the Sin'dorei for their cunning and doing what it takes. The other likes the Draenei and thinks the Alliance would give them an opportunity for some fair trade.

Along the way you learn some history of the Ethereals. That they were once a race approached by the Naaru long ago and warned them of the Legion, and while the warning helped Ethereals Sargeras decided that they must be stopped now before they could join any army of races that could stop challenge him one day. Some demonic agents were able to convert one of the Naaru into a being of insatiable hunger, Dimensius the All-Devouring. Since then Ethereals have lost hope and mainly just been out for themselves, knowing that the Legion is too powerful for them to take and trying through any means. Though if the Army of Light were ever to truly form in large number, they would be happy to help.

Available classes: Hunter, Mage, Rogue, Paladin, Priest, Tinker, Warrior, Warlock
Faction: Astralgan Survivors for both Horde/Alliance
Racial Mount: A strange arcane horse-like being wrapped in bandages. Epic version has armour.

Tinker:

Tinkers have been on Azeroth for quite awhile now, but now they will actually be playable! No particular faction for them or zone or ties to the expansion, though 90-95 abilities will be based on Burning legion technology. It will be available to all races, though trainers will primarily be Goblins for Horde, Gnomes of Alliance and Ethereals in neutral areas. They will also be mail users, Medics will prefer int while Steamwarriors and Annihilator prefer agility. The weapon damage on a ranged weapon will be converted to intellect if your spec is Medic.

Talent specs:

Medic: The medic uses medicine to help repair the body, using his medical drone to help assist far away targets in the battlefield. This spec also uses a touch of the Goblin Alchemist from Warcraft 3, as well as healing bombs that puts chemicals on the ground that assist your allies.

Steam Warrior: Get in a suit of armour, get into battle! This spec is your typical tank, hold aggro and surprisingly mobile. The suit of armour is designed to fit your character's body fluidly so you may be able to dodge. Stats from ranged weapon as the class doesn't use melee weapons.

Annihilator: Focuses on ranged weapon attacks, bombs and utilizing it's fighter drone.

Class features

Drone: This is a floating device that depending on your spec will assist you. A “pet” of sorts. If you're a Medic it will help be your device to heal far away targets, as a Shooter it becomes a typical fighter drone(that can be spec'd out of to increase your own dps, much like Grimoire of Sacrifice for warlocks in beta now). For Steam Warriors they lose the Drone but instead get into a suit of armour in which you can still see your character's upper body through the glass, 1.5 second cast to get into it. The Drone will also have a customization interface to make it more unique, such as designs/paint.

Steam resource: Use abilities to generate steam and others to expend it. Much like the siege engine in Ulduar. There will be glyph that will change the resource to purple and it will be called "Mana cell" to give that more Ethereal/Draenei flavor.

Teleporter pack: Teleport to any of your factions capital cities or neutral ones! Just be the appropriate level.

Class mounts:
- A mini-car, can become upgraded to be more shinier and a vehicle mount at a higher level.
- Jet pack, lets you fly around as you wish! Can be glyphed to be anti-gravity(no flames)

Pre-War of Argus patch

Velen says the time has come to begin the gathering the Army of Light together and stop the Legion, that they are now ready to move to their next objective: Taking Argus. The other races though do not care, why should they do it when they have already suffered so much? The resources of Pandaria have helped them rebuild from the Cataclysm but to assault the Legion will take much sacrifice.

The Pre-MoP event will come in many phases. First Velen will send ambassadors but the races do not seem to care and Wrathion seems to be sensing something off going on. Second demons will start appearing then shortly a minor invasion begins led by Sabellian who has now joined the Legion(looks like a full grown fel-drake) and calls himself the Herald of Chaos. His Chaos Flight and demons are pushed back and they realize that they do have to stop the legion eventually, or else they will always be endangered.

Factions:

Survivors of Argus: Not all of the Eredar that were on Argus joined the Legion, some opposed and went underneath Mac'aree to live on. Now that the Army of Light has come they are taking shots at the Legion as they are distracted. They have not much love though for the Army, as they still hold a bitter grudge for Velen leaving them behind so many years ago.

The Army of Light: Led by the Naaru, the races of Azeroth have banded together to help stop the Legion. They are not the only ones either, while other planets were razed some other races like Ethereals have joined the Army to avenge their homeworlds. A'dal, Khadgar, Ishanah and Voren'thel will be around.

The Felglaive: The scattered demon hunters have welcomed back Illidan Stormrage and now banded together under him. The Felglaive seeks to help end the Legion, while they may have the same goals as the Army of Light they seek to do things their own way

Council of Six Daggers: The Warlocks of Azeroth have been a loose Alliance for sometime now and have decided to use their abilities they have been researching against the Legion. They do not get along well with the Felglaive and tend to act in more subtle approaches.

Light's Justice: The Alliance's main force, led by Turalyon, to fight the Legion. Other members include Alleria and Arathor.

Legion's bane: The Horde's main force, led by a redeemed Garrosh Hellscream, to fight the Legion. Other members include Rexxar and Liadrin.

Various other characters who will appear: A'dal, Altruis, Wrathion, Med'an, Anduin Maraad, Velen, Kazzak with the Glaive of the Aspects. Sargeras as well but he won't be killable, saved for the final expansion on Xoroth. The main villain for War for Argus will be Kil'jaeden.

Zones: Will be just giving a brief summaries of plots.

Outland/Blood elf/Draenei:Zones will be overall more smooth. If nothing much has changed then it'll just be updated to recognize that time has passed. Instances as well will be updated though raids remain old and Tempest keep: The Eye will be removed. The satellite instances however remain for clean up duty.

Azuremyst Isle: The Exodar is now floating and acting as a beacon to Argus for the Horde/Alliance to use Naaru technology that has been given to transport over. The zone itself takes place after the Cataclysm started however, after the Velen's leader short story. Quests will involve curing the still tainted creatures, assisting the Furbolg and the mobs of people who were scared of the Cataclysm and still remain on the isle.

Bloodmyst Isle: The legion still has a presence here as well as curing more tainted things. Now led by Saruan who has been corrupted by fel energies and fight those he had once loved with the help of Felblood Elves and Satyr. As well as some more aggresive naga attacks off the coast.

Eversong Woods: The Sin'dorei are rebuilding and becoming as strong as ever. The zone will revolve around increased naga attacks and some cultist infiltrators, culminating in the trial and death of Rommath.

Ghostlands: Still tainted, druids and shamans of the Horde had arrived earlier to help soothe the land. Dar'Khan has returned, and this time you will end him and destroy his phylactery.

Hellfire Peninsula(58-60): The Fel-orcs are still at it, but this time with Legion support! The final boss of Blood furance is now a willing pit-lord, though he has been weakened by giving too much blood.

Zangarmarsh(60-63): New naga have arrived and seem to be taking what they can as they go back to Azeroth, the remaining Cenarion expedition isn't sure what's going on but it's sure not good. This will also hint at a future expansion regarding South Seas.

Terokkar Forest(60-63): Not too different, though some extra legion incursions have been happening.

Nagrand(64-67): Nesignwary Jr. Has moved in to replace his father! Not much else has changed since before, though some twilight cultists have been messing around with the elements.

Blade's Edge Mountains(63-67): Sabellian will be shown joining sides with the Legion and you try and stop him. At the end of the zone you end up failing and he leaves with the black dragons that were in Outland, renaming themselves the Chaos Flight.

Shadowmoon Valley(67-70): The zone will revolve heavily around Atruis and gathered demon hunters bringing back Illidan from the nether and attempting to help him face his Inner demons. The last “boss” of the quest chain will involve helping Illidan do that. At the end he decides not to destroy it but rather stay on top so he can remain as powerful as ever. Teron Gorefiend also shows up again and goes off to join the Legion.

Netherstorm(67-70): Mostly untouched, though some parts have broken apart and withered away. The Blood elves that were loyal to Kael'thas are also now Felblood elves working for the Legion.

Argus:

Tarakune Desert(90-92): Now a frozen wasteland, desolate, the demons don't wander here often for there's nothing much here. Other than the natural creatures of Argus still are as dangerous as they were before that wander this desert. This will be the starting zone for the War for Argus, where the Army begin to set up.

Felnar forest(91-93): Demon controlled, these forests are very dangerous and corrupted. With the help of the Council of Six Daggers however, players will be able to use guerrilla warfare to slowly weaken them as well as infiltration.

Kaarinos(91-93): These once cold majestic mountains are volcanic and corrupted with fel. Sabellian and his chaos flight makes his home here, given by his master Kil'jaeden. He also shares it with a powerful Pit Lord named Charoth who leads one of the Legion's strike forces. Through questing Light's Justice/Legion's Bane you take out Charoth's forces with Wrathion's assistance though in the end it turns out Sabellian had been subtly helping you all through, he had joined the Legion to weaken it from within. He reveals purposefully held back when he had sent a force to Azeroth in order to get them to see the true threat. He is however found out at the end and imprisoned in his lair.

Mac'Aree(93-94): The capital city of the Eredar is gigantic, many Eredar still dwell in their old homes that have been reshaped to their new demonic tastes. The Survivors of Argus however now revealed themselves from their underground hideouts they have dwelt in for so long and help the Army continue their march across Argus.

Astral Isles(93-94): These peculiar isles float above the corrupted waters of Argus. Magical in nature it is where the Eredar first learned of Arcane magic and advanced their race, as well as location of a powerful point of ley lines. Magical otherworldly creatures reside here, in this chaotic zone.

Varnikur Valley(94-95): At the center of this valley lies Kil'jaedens keep, the final raid of the expansion with Kil'jaeden himself as the last boss. This zone will look like what Hell would be like with the occasional fel-green color. The Felglaive work here to weaken the demons for when the Army finally strikes at Kil'jaeden.

Raids:

Sabellian's Lair: Sabellian has imprisoned inside his own lair by the Legion, you must aid in his release. It is a three boss raid. First boss is Fel Sentries, composed of various demons this will be the first “council” boss of the expansion. Second is Sabellian himself who can't control himself, you beat him until he can recover his senses at 40%. Finally Warden Zar'noth comes in to take care of the commotion, personally. You fight him as a weakened Sabellian takes care of incoming waves of demons that have been alerted by Zar'noths alarm going off. At the end of the raid Sabellian promises to aid you when you assault Kil'jaeden's keep.

Fist of the Legion: This gigantic warship flies around Argus and is big enough to be seen from anywhere on land. It had come back to the planet for repairs after helping raze another planet and it must be brought down now before it reaches full power and attempts to destroy Tempest Keep. Players will sneak aboard and sabotage the ship from within, starting with the upper deck(where you can see Argus below as the Gunship flies) to the captain's quarters and the engine room. Eventually ending with it crashing into the ocean.

Temple of Mac'aree: Once a religious place for the Eredar before they joined the Legion, it has now expanded for the various demonic races to join in worship of their lord Sargeras.

This is crazy! Ethereals, tinkers, the specialization titles, resources and roles (except for annihilator's name), Argus, I had thought all these things up too!

If two people believe it, maybe there's something to it...

I don't like the idea of an Argus expansion. If we're going to take the fight to the Legion, we should get to go to many different worlds, not just one.

I think the main problem is based off how negatively people responded to Cata's split up zone approach, and how much Blizzard has been hyping "a unified continent to explore!" for MoP, I don't seem them doing disjointed zone groupings again.

Crossed Swords (War2)

I don't see why people don't like the disjointed zones. I liked going all over the place for Cata.

Just because they aren't connected doesn't mean they have to be 'disjointed'. It was Blizzard's failed implementation, primarily the networking of it all through Stormwind and Orgrimmar, that lent it that feel.

If they had gone with the original plan of portals between the zones themselve, it would've worked out better, I think.

Great minds think alike

As for multiple worlds, I think it should go slowly with one world at a time with this expansion focusing on Argus and a future one at Xoroth. Though I was thinking of a future content patch for the expansion that involved going to the remnants of K'aresh.

One planet per expansion. We'll regime change the enslaved worlds of the Legion one at a time.

Instead of Garrosh leading the Horde forces, I think it should be Nazgrel (who's been cooped up in Thrallmar this whole time) or possibly Jorin Deadeye. Rexxar has never seemed interested in a leadership role, but he should definitely be involved in some capacity.

The expansion itself should be part Argus and part Twisting Nether. Content patches and raids could show us other Legion worlds as I don't think any besides Argus are expansion-worthy. I see the Legion worlds: K'aresh, Xoroth, a few heretofore unknown worlds (ex. Pit lord/shivarra home worlds) implemented in a similar fashion, but more fully realized, to the Firelands patch. A daily zone or two with heavy phasing to show progression and a couple 5-mans and a raid.

Somehow I can't connect Ethereals and Tinkerers to Argus. I still stand by my idea, that we'll go to Outland and reopen the portals that Illidan closed, because of what Metzen said at Blizzcon 2005. To me that would mean multiple worlds. I think it would still feel pretty connected, if we use Outland as the main hub for this.

Ethereals are probably the most technologically advanced race in existence (or maybe tied with the naaru), so tinkers would go with them like monks with pandaren.

As for the race itself, there aren't that many well known races related to the Twisting Nether, and Blizzard said they don't want to add another race that hadn't appeared before like the draenei.

Why do we even need a race?
But regarding classes, in an expansion with the Burning Legion, I would just go for the most obvious thing. Demon Hunter.

I don't think we'll ever have a demon hunter class. Between the demonology tree of warlocks having metamorphosis as a far more "core" ability than before, and them getting Illidian as an armor set, I'd say warlocks are demon hunters.

Yeah, you have a point, and I used to argue the same way when someone brought up the Demon Hunter idea. But I also thought we wouldn't get a neutral race. So since the Pandaria announcement I kind of tried to keep an open mind on this. And if they really ever do another expansion with the Burning Legion, especially if Illidan should return like Metzen said is very likely, if they toss in the Demon Hunter idea and think it's cool - they'll go with it. And a Demon Hunter would still feel very different from a Warlock.

And I'm not saying Ethereals or Tinkerer are not going to happen, but I don't see a big connection to the Burning Legion.

You read my mind. I've had a lot of similar ideas myself with Ethereals being a neutral race and Tempest Keep becoming a neutral base of operations. Not sure about Tinkers though. I originally wanted Demon Hunters but its obvious that Warlocks are turning into them now.

I think an expansion set on Argus would be great but I also want to see Xoroth and K'aresh etc.

Yeah, I would have picked Demon Hunters as well but it really seems that Warlocks are getting the majority of their themes. As for Tinker not matching the general theme of the expansion, I feel it's the closest thing that would have outside of Demon Hunter to match up with the Ethereals who I had given a history with the Burning Legion since we don't know too much of their life before.

Also been looking around for any information on K'aresh but not much on wowpedia, but I did find something buried in my screenshot folder that means two things. K'raresh is indeed still around and that the Ethereals still hang out there. THe Grand Collector is an NPC from the Skyguard event in Blade's edge that no one ever does because not much of value is gotten from it these days.

So! Here's a hypothetical patch of it would go out.

6.1 Storms of K'raresh
Giant domes of arcane energy are but the only sanctuaries on this chaotic world, In between void energies threaten to tear you apart, only way between the domes is through the use of portals. The Naaru have sent off a dimensional ship, Voyagen, for two goals. Gather resources for fuel the war against the Legion and prevent them from obtaining it for themselves.

There will be three dome zones with void storms raging outside, inside of the domes will be dailies, a raid, an instance and a Battleground.

New Faction, Etherean Blade: The Consortium, Protectorate and even some f the Astralgans have banded together to help reclaim their home from the Ethereum and stave off the Legion with the Naaru's help.

Instance: Invasion of Dome Yatan: In one dome a powerful Pit Lord commander has already arrived with a small army, you must prevent them from opening portals before finally killing the commander himself.

Raid: Ethereum Spire:
The spire was once their most astounding building in the entire planet, in the heart of their capital city Marnat. The Ethereum have remained in control of the city for years and the Etherean Blade is about to change that.

New Battleground: Dome Nethron
Forgot about PvP and that BGs would still have to be made to play in even if the Horde/Alliance are putting aside their differences. Inside this dome both Alliance and Horde compete to harvest the most arcane energy to help fuel the war.

Also between Velen, Wrathion and the Worgen in the new Alliance capital city that was mentioned in the beta thread It seems like there's a lot of evidence for a Legion expansion.

I registered for the forums just to say this: this idea is AWESOME! Let's hope Blizzard implement something like this, if not the next expansion, then the one after that.

Not bad. I don't mind the idea of Argus being the main new continent/planet. Other worlds, like Xoroth, Karesh, etc. could be dungeons, raids, battlegrounds, and/or a new sort of war campaign based content.

I can't think of anything better or more original than a tinker, and I like your ideas for the specs.

I'm not particularly fond of ethereals. I would suggest a few alternatives for new races: Half Elves for the alliance (a group of children of the Alliance Expeditionary Force humans and elves, led by Arathor) and Mok'Nathal lead by Rexxar for the Horde. Or perhaps Black Dragons trapped in humanoid form, but that's probably pushing it.

The only other thing I would change is the Quel'thalas starting area. What if Vareesa and her rangers begin a guerrilla war in Quel'thalas, taking all the spots that used to be dominated by Wretched, and maybe the Night Elf spots in the Ghostlands as well. They may be out-numbered, but Rangers are probably well suited to guerrilla warfare, and they may actually pick up some popular support in Silvermoon.

So, I've an idea about an area in Argus while I was playing to MOP so here's the necroposting.

The Heart of Argus : Level 95 only :

The Heart is the most sacred place on Argus. The ancient legends state that it is here, in this deep rift, where arcane and matter melt and become one, that the first Eredar was created.

In the ancient time, before the coming of Sargeras, the old Eredar retired themselves in this rift, releasing their arcanic part from the anchor of their flesh and turned in spirit of pure magic, becoming one with Argus, the very spirit of their world.

Even today, after more than 25.000 years of corruption, the man'ari do not dare to defile the Heart, for they fear to awake Argus Herself, and they know that their mother would destroy them for what they have become.

But Velen and the Army of Light are ready to investigate the Heart, with the hope to discover ancient secrets and knowledge, and, maybe, the progenitor of the Eredar. For the draeneď, Hope itself lie in the rift. The hope that, if Argus is awakened, She will purify herself and turn the very bastion of the Legion in a trap who will destroy all the demons and bring back an uncorrupted life on this world.

But the Legion won't be destroyed so easily : if their ennemies dare to investigate the Heart, then, they will destroy it, no matter the cost !

Objectives :

-Prepare yourself to investigate the Heart (which is a Sanctuary at the size of a whole leveling zone -Vashj'ir's size, for example) and it's strange environement (arcane become stone or water, or even wild life, which itself turn to arcane after some time).

-Discover the ancient legend of the Eredar, and awake the Ascended, those ancient Eredar who became one with the Arcane of their world. Then, convince them to fight the Legion.

-Awake 'Ar and 'Ruin, and the Twin Sisters who are One, Ered, the Progenitors of the Eredar's race. Gain their trust and, finally, talk to Argus Herself, and convince them that some of Her children and their allies from other world are worthy of Her help.

Myth of Creation (the thing which lack terribly in the Warcraft universe, for me) :

This is the tale which was shown to all young Eredar thanks to their psychic powers, since the beginning of time until the Coming of Sargeras.

"Before the Beginning, there was Nothing and Everything. But the two were separated and refused to come together to become One. Finally, before even the birth of time, they collided and destroyed themselves, while giving birth to the Creation and its billions of children : the stars and the planets.

Radiant and powerful among those planets was Argus. She was the most powerful child of the Creation. The Arcane was pure and powerful in Her, so powerful than any other world were nothing but dirt in Her radiance. And for a time so long that even us, the immortals Eredar, we can't comprehend it, She was happy.

But then, She watched other planets, those pitiful mass of dirt, and She was in awe : something incredible had happened to some of those world. Life was born on them.

She looked at Herself, sure that if those inferior worlds had given birth to Life, She would have created the most brilliant creature, the most powerful children of the Planets, as She was the most powerful child of the Creation. But She was alone, Her power too great to allow life on Herself.

Insatiable was Her anger, and as deep was Her sorrow. In Her mourn, She made a Choice : if Life couldn't naturally exist on Herself, She would create it.

So, She made water from her Arcane, and from this water She created life. Finally, when She was ready, she created Her last children, our Progenitors. First, she made Ered, the Twin Sisters who are One, and she spoke to them, giving her great knowledge and wisdom.

Then, She created 'Ar and 'Ruin, the Fathers of the Eredar and the Ered'ruin. And She spoke to them, and created their language, our language. And immense was Her joy. And then, She went to sleep, knowing that her children were more powerful and more wise than those of the other worlds, unbound by the Law of time and death."

So, what do you think about it ?
