Bolvar seems to be under the impression that people get stuck up for more if they have some standout factor such as homosexuality, leaving out the vital detail that people generally only stick up for them if that one specific factor is being attacked. To use the Xilizhara example, Bolvar attacked hir specifically for being a pedophile--up to and including insinuations that he would involve real-world law enforcement--and got called on it. If he'd simply attacked Xil for being an annoying asshole, then no one would've cared.

It doesn't have to be Bolvar, if someone says something misinformed, I'm going to say something (or at least, feel compelled to say something).

Granted I delete about 70% of those posts before I even post them, because I can't afford to argue with everyone on the internet who I think is wrong, but I don't think it's just people taking him (or anyone else) too seriously. People just have genuine problems with things he (or anyone else) say, and they are going to feel the yearning to respond. I don't think it's fair to brush it aside and say "lol, calm down". You don't have to suddenly agree with everyone in the world ever, but I think we could increase our capacity for constructive conversation if we chose to be more open to the thoughts and opinions of others, no matter how drastically different they are from yours. Lessons can be learned from anyone.
