Default Patch 3.1 brings the Argent Tournament- Argent Crusade flavored IoQD.

http://www.wowinsider.com/2009/02/23...-in-patch-3-1/

Sounds really interesting- they want to add something for the casuals, not just Ulduar. Probably why the patch took so long. Love the mounted combat.

Interesting. I figured they'd be working on Crystalsong Forest, but this sounds rather intriguing, as well. I guess we'll see.

So why exactly is the Argent Crusade building a colliseum (where people kill each other) in Icecrown?

That sounds weird (and suicidal).

I kind of see it as a giant middle finger from Tiron Fordring to Arthas.

"Nice Citadel. You like my Colosseum? RIGHT FUCKING NEXT TO IT! HAHA!"

Maybe to pick the best people to spearhead the fight against Arthas? Perhaps the Colosseum isn't lethal, just tests of skill?

My bet would be on the latter. I mean, it's a pretty stock RPG move.

"Oh hey the world is in danger. I built this rad arena for people to fight progressively harder waves of enemies to figure out who our number one d00d is so he can fight the Big Bad."

I really hope it's not in front of the gates of Icecrown.

That would be lame.

Hope too they rez Gurubashi and Dire Maul arenas for things like these ones.

What they do need to do is make everyone in front of the Wrathgate shut the fuck up and stop screaming every time I fly past.

It's up the hill near Sindragosas Fall.

Somehow, I guessed it would be. It's a pretty open area.

Argent Tournament Details

To participate in the Argent Tournament, head to the Argent Tournament Grounds in Icecrown. You can find it north of Sindragosa's fall, on the map here. The quest to begin participation in the tournament is found to the west of the construction site. This is part of a quest chain, which is listed below. The area also contains a lot of flavor NPCs, tents for both factions with quartermasters, etc. and Grand Master profession trainers for each of the professions, including another source for the Dalaran cooking dailies! Though, why you'd want to start the quest way out there is a little strange.
  • The Argent Tournament - This quest is given by Justicar Mariel Trueheart. She sends you to your respective faction's representative: Arcanist Taelis for Alliance and Magister Edien Sunhollow for Horde. Turning in this quest unlocks daily quests which reward Aspirant's Seal.
    • Daily Quests (Note: These daily quests also give The Silver Covenant / The Sunreavers reputation!)
      • A Blade Fit For a Champion - For this quest, you must retrieve an Ashwood Brand from a "maiden" in Grizzly Hills, at Ashwood Lake. To do this, apply the [Warts-B-Gone Lip Balm] and blow a /kiss to the Lake Frogs nearby. Eventually you'll find the maiden and get your branch. Rewards 2 Aspirant's Seals.
      • Training in the Field - For this quest, you must defeat Scourge in Icecrown. Any Scourge other than those in the Bombardment section of the zone count toward credit for this quest. Rewards 1 Aspirant's Seal.
      • Learning the Reins - For this quest, you must defeat 2 Tournament Attack Targets, 2 Tournament Block Targets, and 2 Tournament Charge Targets while riding a Quel'dori steed. Rewards 2 Aspirant's Seals.
        The Edge of Winter - For this quest, you must kill Lord Everblaze in the Crystal Vice of Icecrown and collect Winter's Edge. Rewards 2 Aspirant's Seals.
  • Up to the Challenge - This quest requires you turn in 15 Aspirant's Seals to complete.
    • The Black Knight of Westfall? - Crusader Rhydalla wants you to obtain a Dusty Journal from the home of the Cooper family in Westfall. The house is located in Moonbrook, between the entrance to Deadmines and the Town Hall.
    • The Seer's Crystal - Crusader Rhydalla wants you to obtain a Seer's Crystal from Unbound Seers in the Forlorn Woods of Crystalsong Forest.
    • The Stories Dead Men Tell - Crusader Rhydalla wants you to use the Seer's Crystal on the graves of Sir Wendell Balfour, Lorien Sunblaze and Connall Ironfist. The graveyard is located to the east of the tournament grounds.

There are also two goblins who offer daily quests -- Bezzle and Bozzle Blastbolt -- but these seem unrelated to actually unlocking the ability to participate further in the tournament. They seem to be related to progressing the construction of the colosseum.
  • A Chip Off the Ulduar Block - Bozzle Blastbolt wants you to gather 20 Small Stone Blocks from Stone Blocks around the Titan ruins in The Storm Peaks. These are gathered by using [Goblin Chisel] near Stone Blocks. The chisel is actually a bomb that will blow up the block after 4 seconds, spawning 2 or more Small Stone Blocks on the ground. Right-click them to gather them.
  • Jack Me Some Lumber - Bezzle Blastbolt wants you to gather 12 Rough Hewn Planks from Crystalsong Oaks around The Great Tree in Crystalsong Forest. These are gathered by targeting a Crystalsong Oak and using [Lumberjack's Axe]. This will "chop down" (kill) the Crystalsong Oak; target it again and use the Lumberjack's Axe again once its cooldown is up to gather 2 planks.

Wow... Lady of the lake giving out... branches.

And it's only or they're hinting next profession in next expansion would be something about woodcutting and they're preparing to it?

They'll add Woodcrafting as soon as Player Housing is in. I mean, if you think about it, what can you even make out of wood? Staves, Bows, and maybe Totems/Idols? That's only going to benefit a couple classes *maybe* - specifically casters and hunters, though this is assuming the individual even uses staves or bows (esp classes with more weapon options like Priests, Shamen, Druids, and Warlocks since there are quite a few good healing/spellpower maces and daggers out there, or feral maces, etc). So it would be too worthless of a profession. However, with Player Housing in, you can add Furniture to that list. Now there's a reason to take it.

The other problem of course is what gathering profession it corresponds to, since obviously chopping wood would have no real practical use other than to tie in with this, plus it'd require a more significant redesign of resource nodes (i.e. "Why can I chop tree X but not tree Y?", "What happens when you chop down every tree in say, Ashenvale?", etc). So they'd need to figure out some solution to that.

Wood cutting? Nah...

Or... wait... it could be... O.O!

Player housing...

Now they have implemented phasing, that's more than possible, you know.

I want a nice little house in Stratholme, my own little niche amidst the crusaders. I will learn Baking and sell my loaves to Saidan Dathrohan. That is my life's ambition.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a *great* idea?

I can only do the Dalaran cooking daily on off-hours because the lag in Dalaran on my realm is so bad, I get disconnected half the time I enter the area. If I could pick it up and turn it in at a remote location, I'd be a very happy cook.

You could do a lot with Woodworking as a profession.

* Bows
* Staves
* Polearms
* Maces
* Wands
* Trinkets
* Idols
* Totems
* Shields
* Fishing poles
* Fishing lures
* Parchment
* Containers (imagine 30 slot "chests" that could only be bank-equipped or something)

Woodcutting would work just like herbalism or mining. Tree nodes would spawn just like herb or ore nodes, and could be gathered accordingly.

The nice thing is that the wood that is gathered could be worked into other crafting professions as a reagent, giving the raw material a use for more than one type of craftsman.

If we will ever get player housing, I can imagine whole new cities springing up in the Wetlands, Khaz Modan or somewhere. It's not that difficult to imagine the process.

-One dwarf warrior decides to set up his home in the swamp in the Wetlands, not so far from the road.
-He later invites his friend there. The friends thinks he likes it and sets up his home next to him.
-A gnome warlock walks past them and sees two houses. He accidentally stumbles upon the dwarf warrior and the guy offers to sell some self-made reagents to him. Both guys makes a good trade, and the gnome begins to return there for more reagents. Soon, he settles near the two houses.
-Several else characters pack up with them in the similar way. Now, we have ten houses in the centre of the swamp. People begin to be attracted to what the hell is happening there. Since now we have two or more players acting as PC vendors, more people settle around to have quick access to it.

You see, a traditional way cities were founded in the old times. Now I think it would be actually a nice sociological experiment - to see how that theoretical model of creating cities play up in life.

It would be a load of fun, only Azeroth would become one huge city in no time. Not to mention interference of spawn points and stuff.

Maybe a limitation of building a house next to the spawn points?

And furthermore, houses would need to be awfully expensive. Just like double spec is now, or maybe even more. That would limit the "urbanization".

Then you'd have people bitching about all the spots being taken and yadda yadda yadda then the GMs steal all your loot and dragon.
