50,000 years ago was when Prothean civilization fell, and that was a point where Homo Sapiens had already been developing on Earth for several thousand years. I'm not sure if the Protheans actually manipulated anything on Earth, I think that their outpost on Mars was just to observe Earth's development rather than manipulate it.

Also, actual, physical sex is not required for Asari reproduction. It's all... biotic/psychic mind melding. Apparently Asari can read your genetic code and use that information to randomize their potential offspring's genes.
Why do they need tits and a uterus then? Do they breastfeed?

I think the prothean explicitly says "manipulated' though.

As for the tits... do we know if they actually lactate or if they serve some other function?

... fuck why am I having this discussion.

Did it? I thought that the Protheans were just observers, not Titan-esque interveners.

So far the only reason I can think of for their existance is to make them appealing to humans.

Because this is the most important debate of our generation. I'm supposed to be writing a paper on Canada's role in the Vietnam War right now but instead I'm talking about alien tits on the internet.

Huh, so in somewhat related news the main character of the iOS spinoff Mass Effect: Infiltrator is the same guy who voiced JC Denton in Deus Ex.

Maybe. Or maybe they're just an irregularly-shaped breastbone and our chemistry is manipulated to attribute them to human breasts, which most humans find appealing in some way.

Is it wrong that in my head I was thinking of sound clips of the Demoman from TF2?

I'd always assumed it was a way to make other species more willing to "meld" with them.

It means the same as "biological".

As in "biologically making mass effect fields", since that's what they're doing: they're just organic beings doing the same stuff machines can do.

Yeah, they already talk about their appearance in-game. At the bachelor party in ME2, the NPCs say that the asari only take on attractive body features to make them more appealing to alien races.

That doesn't explain why they looked like humans before meeting humans.

And don't say it's an illusion since they can wear human clothes so they have to be mostly shaped like us.

Out of all the races in the Galaxy, the race of intergalactic sluts happens to look like attractive Human females.

The fuck is that shit, Bioware!

I'm pretty sure some artists from Bioware admitted in one of the early interviews for ME1 that asari were intentionally designed to be the archtypical hot blue space babe.

Piracy is a sin. Unless you're Illidan, in which case it's totally badass. But since you have been a loyal minion, I shall spare you my wrath, Leviathon.
