Oh good, even more fuel for the fanbase to be obnoxious about.

Arakiba 12-18-2017 06:21 PM

Hey I'll happily take ominously vague Old God stuff over kvetching about faction stuff some more.

Asterisk 12-18-2017 06:33 PM

I really can't agree. Faction kvetching is circular and annoying, but Old God/Void conspiracy theories are the absolute worst part of this community. Everyone is secretly evil, everyone is an Old God minion, everything is somehow helping the bad guys and everyone is tricking and lying to us.

I thought Dreadlords were Burning Legion members. ;)

You look me in the eye and TELL ME that shepherd bit isn’t about Sylvanas

:p

Maybe if Blizzard didn't actively peddle that stuff in the first place... you wouldn't get it so much.

I mean, when they made freaking Benedictus evil, I guess because he wasn't being used, so screw it, they opened the floodgates for anyone to have this problem.

You want it to be about Sylvanas ( which is another byproduct of these sometimes annoying riddles). We know that not everyone follows her blindly in the Horde, hell not even the forsaken ( even more emphasis on this in the novel preview).

Now if you'd say Azshara I think it fits better with her absolutely devoted following who even brought them to ruin and still do to this very day. It could even be Azeroth herself, we've been doing absolutely everything Magni has told us in her name without question , like the good murder hobos we are.

ARM3481 12-18-2017 08:06 PM

Keep in mind that even if we suss out who the Old Gods are talking about, there's no good reason to trust why they're telling us. Do we honestly think they're trying to clue us in to legitimate deception and betrayal out of the goodness of their hearts?

They told Loken not to trust the other Keepers. They told Neltharion not to trust the other Aspects. They tell their mortal adherents not to trust the rest of the world. All as a means to convince anyone who will listen to eliminate those who would obstruct their plans.

Which means identifying the people mentioned in their whispers could be less about sniffing out actual traitors, and more about realizing who they want us to turn against in order to further their goals.

As defenders Azeroth, our players' greatest concerns are the enemies that threaten our entire world. So naturally, to turn us against our allies the Old Gods would try to convince us that said allies are controlled by or secretly aligned with those same world-threatening enemies.

It is a bit funny that nearly all of them were eventually corrupted. With Alexstrasza tossed into HotS, it's only a matter of time.

The Old God's always telling the truth from a certain point of view is an interesting narrative.
You can't ignore them and you go crazy trying to make sense of it.

Krainz 12-19-2017 02:05 AM

I think the shepherd is the faction leaders and the crows are shadowy beings feasting upon those who die on the BFA faction conflict.

rshll 12-19-2017 03:13 AM

So you have Sylvanas and Anduin screaming their lungs out 'For the Horde/Alliance' and you still think it's about them? I doubt it. Probably it's Azshara indeed.

Krainz 12-19-2017 04:05 AM

A necromancer with old god ties would be cool as an enemy.

Maybe a drust, who knows.

EDIT:

That guy Ogmot, he was a boy when called to war.
http://ptr.wowhead.com/npc=132591/og...delviewer:10+0

The dude is an ogre.

Is he talking about the current war in his notes?
And is he tied to any of the factions?

Because if he is, then that's a direct implication of one of the next allied races.

Technically, it's lying by omission most of the time, and at others their assertions are sufficiently vague that they can be retroactively deemed prophetic.

The point however has nothing to do with the validity of their statements; it doesn't matter if the Old Gods are telling the truth or lying, because we'll still be pulling out our hair to figure out whether it's one or the other. No one wants to believe an Old God because it might be playing into their tentacles, yet ignoring what could be true might have the same disastrous consequences. The only unquestionable truth about Old Gods is whatever they have to say is bad for mortals.

Sadly, I doubt Blizzard's writing department is willing to test the limits of their players' attentions, so any interesting possibilities are simply convenient side-effects of achieving the status quo.

The bit about the shepherd and the sheep is obviously about Alleria. Come on now keep up.

http://www.wowhead.com/news=278769/7...7-data-updates

Anoter PTR update today.

So far, the only interesting bit is the datamined stages of a scenario:

Quote:

Remember the Sunwell

Shorel'aran
Leave the Sunwell.

Ama Noral'arkhana
Close the void rift.

Anu Belore Dela'na
A Walk to Remember.

Shindu Fallah Na!
Defeat the void attackers.

Anar'alah Belore
A meeting of elves.

Belono Sil'aru
Defeat the Darkener.
I assume this is the Nightborne's recruitment storyline, thought it starts with leaving the Sunwell, so I'm not sure.

Also, requirements for Allied Races:

Quote:

Yesterday's PTR build added the hidden tracking achievements for unlocking the Highmountain Tauren Allied Race. Today's build added the requirements for 3 more Allied Races:

Nightborne: Exalted with the Nightfallen and completion of Good Suramaritan
Void Elf: Exalted with Argussian Reach and completion of You Are Now Prepared!
Lightforged Draenei: Exalted with Army of the Light and completion of You Are Now Prepared!
Void elves ended up not having any true reputation faction and storyline. :sweatdrop

Also, new map:

Exalted.

Exalted.

Exalted.

Fucking shit.

Asterisk 12-19-2017 01:15 PM

Those requirements are going to be pretty annoying barriers for new and reuturning players interested in allied races. Playing expansion-old content to unlock stuff in the current expansion, I mean. It's not a problem for those of us who've been playing Legion and got those months ago.

I think those requirements will be dropped eventually. I guess this is mostly to keep people engaged during the drought.

Arakiba 12-19-2017 01:26 PM

It feels kind of unbalanced to me to require the Alliance to get exalted with the two Argus factions, in comparison to the Horde's.

Maybe its just due to how much longer the Nightborne and Highmountain have been available compared to Army of the Light and Argussian Reach, but the former two feel a lot faster to get exalted with to me than the latter two.

It does make sense to me to have some reputation (though honestly the Argussian Reach one for the void elves strikes me as dumb because they have nothing really to do with them besides Alleria) but maybe revered? Dunno, just...feels off.

Very positive development. The devs are at least correcting some of their past mistakes.

So does matter which faction you get those achievements on?

My guess is it does since reputation isn't account wide. I doubt we have a solid answer though.
