Battle for Azeroth - The Official Thread

Welcome to the official thread for WOW's 7th expansion!

Torch 11-03-2017 12:18 PM

Welp, looks like Blizzard's gone full on night elf snuff porn again.

As always.

Gromak 11-03-2017 12:22 PM

ZANDALARI, PLAYABLE AND ALLIED WITH THE HORDE

NO MORE TROLL GENOCIDE

Kellick, where you at?! WITNESS THIS GLORIOUS MOMENT WITH ME!

GenyaArikado 11-03-2017 12:24 PM

Omfg if Azshara doesn't steal this xpack halfway through i'm gonna be pissed.

Hipnos 11-03-2017 12:28 PM

I can't handle this! Zandalari? I'm dead.

Deicide 11-03-2017 12:28 PM

Meh trailer

Very good cinematic.

Official site is up: https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/battle-for-azeroth

Two COntinents: Zandalar and Kul Tiras

6 "Allied Races":
* Dark Iron, Lightforged, Void Elves
* Zandalari, Highmountain, Nightborne

Sonneillon 11-03-2017 12:33 PM

Man the Alliance kind of got shafted on the races... I guess the Voidelves have a newish model, but the Yellowed Eyed Draenei and the Darkirons are pretty boring. Both the Light Draenei and the Elves are kind of an asspull if you ask me, they haven't been around long enough. Especially compared to the unique models that Nightborne and Zandalar trolls have and the time taken establishing all three of the Horde's races.

Not the sub races I'd have wanted. The fact that you have to literally do quests with a main just to fucking unlock the ability to create a new character AND THEN have to complete the full leveling experience from 1 to 120 to earn a distinctive Heritage Armor set for that race is quite frankly bullshit of an extreme proportion. That's basically not even content at that point, just another chore.

The Titanic Might thing makes me wonder if it's going to work like the Legendary Weapon systems. Given that they are putting less effort into leveling armor models in Legion I can't help but wonder if slowly evolving armor with raid unlocks and what not is the next course. Sort of a jump in logic but the wording looks that way with the whole Heart of Azeroth thing.

I like that we basically get a Horde Island (I refuse to call them continents) and an Alliance one which should prove to have faction unique leveling experiences. The other islands all look kind of bland. Although I will say some of the weird "The Old Ways" druid stuff in Kul'Tiras looks interesting, pirate Vrykul look rad as well. They should have been a subrace though since the Alliance races are totally disconnected from the story and zone...

All and all, it's sort of good that we are ramping down because the stories epic scale was getting a little insane. It's odd that Argus doesn't have any real focus after being shown, it's odder still we are getting this whole full scale Lordaeron assault as our launching point for the story. I mean, I get it... but everything just seems so totally scaled back and disjointed that it's sort of hard to get excited about it. Theres no big bad reveal, no reveal in the cinematic of the new zones... other than the same old faction conflict story. They better really bring something to the table with this because it's hard to get hyped even if it is likely best to take a breather from the power scale issues the game was starting to get.

Gurzog 11-03-2017 12:54 PM

that classic announcement has me like:

Expansion looks good too.

Fojar 11-03-2017 12:55 PM

Hi guys I was at the dentist and got a massive erection about an hour ago that still hasn't gone away

Commander Rotal 11-03-2017 12:59 PM

Another expansion around faction bullshit pretty much means that George Lucas has a greater ability to learn from feedback than Blizzard does.

Afaslizo 11-03-2017 01:02 PM

While I believe the point of missing external threats to be bullshit with N'zoth and Azshara around I like the new zones and Zandalari.

Is it just me or were there no blood elves in the defense of UC? The bowmen look like Dark Rangers to me.

Millenia 11-03-2017 01:04 PM

Good cinematic and trailer.

I'll inevitably be disappointed with all the Alliance losses (poor night elves, but at least those Cenarions got what was coming to them), but for the moment the hype is real!

Shame about no ethereal bifactional race like the pandaren. They'd totally work well as mercenaries and whatever.

Don't worry, only three more hours until you have to worry!

Haha. I stopped playing WoW months ago and stopped coming here as well but the moment i saw the trailer, I knew Fojar would eb ranting about it.

Wonder what this means for the Blood elves. Apparently the Eastern Kingdoms is going Ally while Kalimdor is going Horde.

Cacofonix 11-03-2017 01:15 PM

So, do you believe that Quel'thalas has or will have another civil war with Lor'themar chased away? I mean, the factions do supposedly totally control their continents now.

Whitrix 11-03-2017 01:22 PM

We'll have to wait for the details (from the novel I guess), but right now it makes no sense for the Horde to be able to not only conquer the rest of Kalimdor, but also burn down Teldrassil.

I am SO glad you are still on these forums to see this day. You of all people deserve it.

Leviathon 11-03-2017 01:36 PM

I'm disappointed about Azshara being offed in some starter raid and also still no mention of updated worgen/goblin whose models are now older than the vanilla models were.

the azerite empowers the factions, and the storyline is about how the factions wants to use the azerite (azeroths blood basically) for more power, while magni wants the faction to work together.

I wonder what khadgars role in all this will be.

Probably be on alliance side.

Tilgath 11-03-2017 01:41 PM

ANDUIN YES!

TELDRASSIL NO!

I'm looking forward to seeing how this all plays out. Also wtf are void elves?

Torch 11-03-2017 01:46 PM

Well, looks like it's suicide again for old me

Lon-ami 11-03-2017 01:48 PM

I'm very disappointed the Horde starting "continent" isn't Kezan instead of Zandalar. The Zandalari joining the Horde doesn't make any sense after all we've gone through, they should have stayed neutral. The "allied race" should have been forest trolls instead or whatever.

Also, pretty bullshit it's a faction war expansion, too. Stinks nothing's gonna happen, and if it does (Azshara) it will be downplayed to hell, like the Y'Shaarj in Mists of Pandaria.

The selection of allied races is kinda terrible too. In my opinion, this would have been far better:
  • Alliance: High elves, Stone dwarves, Broken draenei.
  • Horde: Berserker jungle trolls, Mok'nathal half-orc half-ogres, Darkfallen undead blood elves.
Of course, they would have special animations and models, and would be different enough just to not be shameless reskins. As for other subraces that aren't "different enough" to warrant such uniqueness, they should be made available through character customization (Wildhammer dwarves, Taunka, Blackrock orcs, Dark Iron dwarves, etc).

God damn it Blizzard, you lazy assholes.

It makes sense when you consider they were nerfed in the transition from WC3 to WoW.

Commander Rotal 11-03-2017 01:53 PM

Azeroth: "I'm dying you guys"
Alliance: "Fur die Alliance!"
Horde: "Fur de Horrrrrd!"
Magni: *facepalms*
Azeroth: *dies*

Zandalari: "We be dieing, mon!"
Alliance: "Fur die Alliance!"
Horde: "Fur de Horrrrrd!"
Zandalari: *die*
Zandalari Ghosts: "Fuck ye, mon."

Kul Tirans: "Yarrr, we are dieing!"
Alliance: "Fur die Alliance!"
Horde: "Fur de Horrrrrrd!"
Kul Tirans: what
N'zoth: lol
Azshara: rofl

Fojar 11-03-2017 01:54 PM

Anduin the Reclaimer finally fulfilling Stormwind's debt to Terenas from so many years ago

Asterisk 11-03-2017 01:54 PM

Still a dumb title and still have to deal with faction war and, from the sound of the raids, old gods pulling the strings because muahaha evil, but everything else looks great.

I can finally play a straight-backed troll! Vol'jin and Bwonsamdi! Jaina's not a villain! Pirate dungeon! The spooky forest zone on Kul Tiras is probably my favorite. I bet you the missing nobles are vampires or something.

Feltongue 11-03-2017 01:54 PM

Zomg Zandalari Zarlock I'm gushing.
What race to play my Rogue to skulk the battlefield and take Alliance spines and skulls.
GLORIOUS MURDER!

Fenixhart 11-03-2017 01:57 PM

Well faction war it is.

With Horde Burning Tel'drasiil for...some reason.

Maybe if they just keep it as bland as possible with no Sycophantic yesmanning I'll be able to stomach it.

Deicide 11-03-2017 01:59 PM

There was a straight-back orc in the trailer (over the lookout of a boat). For one instant, I thought we would have them. They said nothing about improved customization, thought. Oh, well...

At least I got my high elves. Sorta.

They're like... Elves that are like... Goth and stuff. Because clearly we needed more sub races of a race that was almost extinct than was almost extinct again and completely unrepresented in the game so far. I mean, they look alright, but it feels pretty fucking dumb. Even more so since they are entirely unestablished. So we have Highborne and Nightelves that split, Highborne that remain Nightelven from draining a Demon, Highborne, Naga (atleast this one is interesting, High Elves that still like nature, Bloodelves that drained Demons and Naruu to keep being like elves since they were almost wiped out, a faction of them that went to Outland, a smaller group that didn't and became Crackelves, a group that were killed and became vampires from a Vrykul curse up in north rend, Highborn that went and locked themselves away become Nightborn and now Void Elves, which I'm guessing are an even smaller population of elves that like, were with Alleria and some how got lost in the void and turned to using the void to deal with their totally insanely in terms of conceptualization magic addition or whatever. It's, not knowing a lot... really fucking goofy ass shit.

korton 11-03-2017 02:01 PM

Ugh, another faction war?

I bet the expansion is gonna go like this. One or two patches of pure faction war (that just suddenly shows up) until the big baddie (Old Gods) show up and we will have to once again put aside our difference for like the fourth time to fight the big baddie.

Also, logistically, how the hell is the Alliance or the Horde still around. In the last 20ish years they have fought around 5 or 6 global life-ending wars. How the hell do they still have any manpower or economy to function? And how the hell is the Horde gonna burn down Teldrassil?

neoshadow 11-03-2017 02:01 PM

Void elves. Glorious.

Edoll 11-03-2017 02:04 PM

I really hope the void elves get normal skin and hair color options. Right now they look identical to the death knight blood elves, even their ears get darker at the tips.

Lack of condoms.

Lots of matches.

Asterisk 11-03-2017 02:09 PM

Yeah I'm getting kind of a MoP 2.0 vibe from this. More down to earth stories in the zones, faction war, Old God stuff that will probably be the basis of the final raid.

True. Sometimes I don't remember that because they keep using them to save Azeroth from time to time.

Skullcrusha 11-03-2017 02:15 PM

I can't believe Vol'jin is an urn leak was right.

But with us getting Bwonsamdi on our side in the swamp horde zone we'll prob rez him.

TerrorhoofMayo 11-03-2017 02:15 PM

Not sure why we are going back to the faction war. It's like nobody learned anything from MoP. I mean, I dig faction war but not when it's done like this.

Otherwise I am interested in the heritage armor set. Maybe we are finally going to get faction themed armor again.

Jon Targaryen 11-03-2017 02:16 PM

Need more character slots. Already at 44.

Bolvar 11-03-2017 02:22 PM

So, the Alliance takes Lordaeron back, but loses Teldrassil?

I'd make that trade any day of the week...
