I managed to get the navigation bar working. Now I'm trying to have an image in the upper left, with the navigation bar extending to the right. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble figuring out how to keep the two images from overlapping.

I considered using z-index to put the navbar over the image, but this doesn't look very good. Here's what I have so far:

Thanks for bearing with me. Hopefully it's not unusual for first-timers to struggle with this.

EDIT: I figured out how to work around it; the altered part is in red text. Nonetheless, please tell me if there is another way to keep the img and the ul from overlapping.

Here's what I did:
