Runes Final Fantasy 14 A Realm Reborn

Alright since no one else would make the thread, I'll bite the bullet and do it myself!

So who else here got the game and is in the prerelease? What server are y'all on? I'll try to update if more of us join in the future.

List-
Euphie-Sarganatas(server)- Kristen Bell(main)

Managed to get to 12 last night, finished my 1st hunting log. Hopefully they fixed the Arcanist level 10 quest in last night's maintenance so I can level other proffesions along!

If this game ever goes FTP I shall be on it like Slowpoke on an uncomfortable-yet-pitying female, but until that comes I find myself unable to justify paying the sub even if I did enjoy the beta.

I'm tearing up, guys.
First of all I want to say that I am sorry for us having to go into maintenance for the NA/EU servers. I want to apologize for taking precious time away from players during early access. From here on out is a long journey. starts to tear up, crowd gives encouragement
Its almost been 3 years since I took over development for FFXIV. At the time I hadn't been involved with the game that much, and I thought that it wouldn't be that big of a deal to remake it. I have always loved final fantasy and have always loved mmo's. starts to tear up again At the time, I gathered the team together and told them that we were going to remake the game just two days before we announced it to all of you on December 2nd.
I still remember it now, but at the time, we were in a studio like this one, and Souken (current director of game music) was in the background checking my mic levels. I clearly remember him standing there give me a guts pose (one fist in the air, think rocky) but at the time I had the same kind of worries as the players; how is this really going to turn out?... Isn't this going to be impossible.... pauses
But one by one I got support from all of you. It was said in the questions earlier, but normally an mmo takes 4-5 years to create and carefully plan. Earlier, Wada said his role is a tank. I had the same idea of being a tank when making this game. Up until now I have gone through each facet of the game (implies that he also bore all of the responsibility).
But I am not saying that it is just me who made FFXIV ARR. This was all due to the players around the world, the core staff here, and the hundreds of staff not here today. I came here today planning on not crying, but today we have finally taken the first step with ffxiv arr. And it is only the first step. Honestly I don't think we have any time to rest. We are working on patches and expansions.
More than anything I want to thank the players, especially those who started from the original FFXIV, and those that have joined our community. Thank you all for all of your support so far. I only hope that we have released a game that will not bring shame to square enix. from here on out there is no finishing an mmorpg. FFXIV:ARR is not a game that we made alone, but a game that we made along with all of you. From here on out we home to keep creating this game from here on out, from this place with you for 5-10 years.
I again want to say thank you for all you have done so far and we hope for your support in the future.

That's a 'no making money off of our product by making videos on it' like many WoW 'celebrities' did/do yes. I mean my video doesn't break any rules.

Some good bad news for the game.

Hopefully this makes it so it's not a mess to log in anymore.

Also The Lodestone was released, which is basically the Armory for 14!

Here is my main so far!

I was tempted to make a new thread but thought I'd drag this one out to the light of day again and see if anyone else is playing FF14 these days.

I'm actually pretty new to the game for the most part. I only hit 50 in my first Job about a month ago and have been making my way though all the patch story since then. While none of it is particularly groundbreaking or original the game has blown me away, particularly in the detail to story.

With 2.51 coming out I thought I'd see if anyone else is playing at the moment.

The 2.5 trailer for anyone interested:

It's what I've been playing instead of WoW for the past few months though now I'm on Marlboro where I play the 'turn the lights off in the guild house bothering the person that likes leaving them on' game. Looking forward to chocobo racing and triple triad with the patch.

What makes FF14 different from WoW, besides being an asian product?

I've long been interested but I just don't want to get commited to another MMO at this point.

SWTOR is providing (yet again) a more than entertaining alternative to WoW right now.

The way the classes/jobs work in this game is very refreshing to me being that one character can be everything including having each profession etc. Plus the game is updated very often with decent stuff along with a lot of Final Fantasy nostalgia to boot. Also now the Gold Saucer .

What's the class system, how does the combat work?

The combat is very similar to WoW but enemies abilities show its radius on the ground making it easier to notice and move. Basically from what i can gather since i have only played two classes there are a bunch of base classes that can become jobs (Jobs are an extension to a class like the Black Mage or Ninja job that require one class to be level 30 and another to 15 i think). Every base class (unsure about jobs) has its own large quest line that you go through as you level with one big major quest line then the rest being side stuff.

No idea if that was any help but it is all i can muster up.

So many people in the Gold Saucer. Chocobo Racing and Triple Triad are as fun as I hoped.

I'll expand on this.

Every class in the game can be acquired on one character and their are benefits to acquiring multiple classes. To change class a character has to have unlocked that respective class and then just needs to equip that classes weapon of choice. So for example, if you want to switch from a archer to a lancer you equip a lance and your skills and setup change much like if you changed specs in WoW.

In final fantasy content is gated mainly behind story quests rather than specific levels. Classes are no different. You start with one class then at around lvl 10 or so you can start to sign up at various guilds to learn new classes. While this does mean that you have to follow the various side stories, those sidestories are all pretty enjoyable and act as both a tutorial and delve into the lore of the various classes. These quests come every 5 levels.

Note that classes aren't only combat. In FF14, harvesting and crafting have their own classes with each having their own questline, lore and progression. Crafters have effectively their own minigame where they can seek to improve the quality of the gear they make. End game crafting gear can be quite competitive though it requires quite a lot of effort to gear up you crafting set to produce the best stuff.

The combat classes, when they hit 30, finish the first arc of their class story. At this point players will be offered a new quest to unlock a job respective to that class. Jobs act like specialisation in a way. A equipping a soul gem activate a job and gives a player access to 6 extra skills at 50. These skills are all very potent so in most cases people will have Jobs equipped rather than remaining simply classes after 30.

To start a job a secondary class will need to be unlocked and raised to 15 though this isn't particularly onerous and class have cross class skills available so this is something you will probably want to do anyway. A job's level is based of its source classes level and having that Job equipped will earn experience for that base class. Each job again has its own storyline which delves deeper into lore, again every 5 levels. These quests unlock the new skills for the Job as you level.

That's the Job/Armoury system. Note that you gear has its own Armoury storage on your character so your gear doesn't fill up all your bags which is good cause you cant get any more than the 100 slots you start with.

There are other differences between WoW and FF14 but I wanted to avoid writing a wall of text.

Outside the Job system the main things are content is unlocked by progressing the story, and combat has a 2.5 global cooldown rather than a 1.5. That seems like a lot but as you get to end game it becomes less noticeable because, A)you get used to it, B) Your rotation fills out a lot more and C) the mechanics of fights become a lot more complex and potentially fatal and that extra second gives you the time you need to manage those mechanics. By potentially fatal I mean if ignored they one shot you.

Raiding has some big differences too. For the 24 man raids, rather than one large group your raid party or Alliance as they call it, is made up of three separate groups each with 2 two tanks, 4 dps and 2 healers. Much of the content for raids is based of each team working in concert with the other two. Its like having 3 smaller raid teams in the one raid rather than just one large one.

And I end up writing a wall of text anyway.
