Default Star Trek:Who is the better Kirk?

So, between William Shatner and Chris Pine, who do you think is a better actor? I vote Pine.

Shatner was good in the Original Series, but in the movies, he didn't act well.

I like both Picard and Kirk.

Anyway, the question is for every person who has seen Star Trek.

Pine.

what? Kirk as a character was always a fart gag short* of becoming comically incompetent who runs on luck; might as well put him in a shitty movie that has the same questionable qualities. Never liked Kirk. He'd get thrown out of every self-respecting organisation imediately, including the Starfleet of the 24th century when they actually tried to keep their commanding officers adhear to rules.

*let us not speak of Star Trek 5 in this regard.

I started with the Original Series, and Pine just doesn't look or feel like Kirk to me at all. It feels like some young fan of him tried to imitate the real person. While he may be a good character on his own, he just isn't Kirk.

Pine gives us a new and better portrayal of Kirk.

My vote goes to Shatner, the original Kirk.

Nothing beats Jean-Luc Picard. Best. Captain. Ever. Have to say, I did like Kathryn Janeway too, but I don't think anyone beats Jean-Luc as a Captain. If this was a favorite character question though, I'd have to vote Data every time.

Yeah, it's like he's actually acting and delivering lines without goofy pauses or mugging for the camera. That's not the original Kirk!

(What I'm saying is that Pine is better).

Any time someone says something good about Janeway, they disqualify themselves from having an opinion. Even the actress who played her said she couldn't understand her actions unless she was Starfleet's first untreated bipolar Captain.

Shatner was a good Kirk for his day, time, and the limitations of television production at that time. Pine is a good Kirk, at least as far as movie production values and technology goes.

I wouldn't mind seeing how well the cast of the current movies do in a Television series, which would have far less production value than you get in a movie. I think that'd help give a bit of a fairer comparison between Pine and Shatner, but even then you still have the gap in technology and revenue. Shatner was Kirk back when Star Trek wasn't widely popular to begin with. I don't think the franchise got really popular until Next Generation. Its popularity since Shatner's time has ensured a higher source of revenue to work off of.

I voted Pine, but you're never going to get to know the rebooted characters as well as the original since the movie format leaves less time to explore characters.

I'm torn. Objectively Pine is better, but Shatner was just so damned iconic (partly because of his campy style).

Shatner as an aged Kirk really did poorly. No wonder he got nominated for a Razzie.
