I haven't watched DS9 (I'll get around to it), but that scene was very gratifying.

Data was rather well-written until Generations, where he was turned into comic relief(and that too, horrible comic relief).

Now, see I approve of the theme of Data's wish to become like a living creature completely. It's when he was turned into comic relief that I got irritated. And unfortunately, he was used as that a lot.

Spock was extremely well-written. In fact, the TOS trio of Kirk Spock and McCoy were all great characters.
