For some reason they never seem to skip right to making that a launch thing.

Do you seriously not get how comparing the last patches of an expansion lasting a year might be a bit different from the playerbase melting down within 6 fucking months of the expansions release? Have you considered how stuffed BFA will be in its own expansion ending dead time?

I hate to be agreeing with Gurzog but they fucked up big time for BFA. The story has never been worse, content has never been so sparse nor so poorly recieved (Azerite, Warfronts etc) but most importantly of all classes have NEVER felt this terrible to play. You can fix the first 3 with a good patch but no patch is going to overhaul classes to remotely the level they need to be good as people remember around Mops timeframe. The whole "rental features" expansion design needs to die. Yesterday.

I sometimes wonder if I live in some alternate universe where all the bad the past expansions had done was far more severe. Otherwise, it is virtually impossible for me to comprehend how can some consider what they write on the side of Battle of Azeroth serious and on point.

Eh. I can recognize that people don't like Azerite but I pretty much like that feature, just like all other features of BFA.

The storytelling is at the same level of Legion, and in some places it's even better.

I was taking a look at some other social media/fansites and found one in which the userbase is largely excited for new warfronts, and not so much over paragon rewards, for instance. Surprising, huh?

The core community has become an echo chamber. The only kind of content they acknowledge is raids. Sounds familiar from old expac complaints.

I liked the new Warfront. Found it pretty cool, full of little details that make it enjoyable.

The story leading up to it had its flaws. And bugs, Nathanos and Tyrande often behaved really weird during the scripted events (like Tyrande escaping her stun too early and walking back and forth to her original position while Nathanos talked, or Nathanos walking to one side then back to escape). It could have been better and less buggy.

This patch is just a refinement of 8.0, which is cool by me. I just logged in and have a ton of stuff to do.

I think the big problem with BfA is that it was released too early and a lot of its systems were not fine. Blizzard probably tried to reduce the content drought duration and release 8.1 ASAP, but 8.1 itself took longer than they wanted.

I think BfA still has potential for its next patches, now that BfA has been refined and improved. If Blizzard is able to recover from the 8.1 and releases content fast as it did in Legion from now on, BfA complains can be forgotten.

People flipping their shit over a pause on a catch-up mechanic just makes their entitlement show.

You can still farm AK until the raid opens. You just won't have the nice spoonfed cookie every week, which is completely reasonable because the artifact knowledge stops in a level that's higher than the required to fully unlock Mythic Uldir gear.

I hope the ones crying about that eventually get some sense into them and realize the ridicule of their behavior.

Main complain I see in the forums is classes.

People either complain that they feel weaker compared to WoD or that Blizzard removed too many abilities. (And don't forget about the GCD outcry.)

But I kinda agree, that the rest feels a bit like a big entitlement show.

I have heard some dissatisfaction with class balance, titanforging, etc. but if enough people are okay with the game, will this cause Blizzard to see BfA as a big success and do nothing to alleviate story concerns?
Agreed, drumming up faction war drama is a cheap way to get people to get involved but sadly it works.

So far, I've seen threads complaining about ridiculous things ruining the game, such as:

- New orc run animation
- New Paladin Consecration animation didn't went live
- Alliance participating in World PvP is unfair to Horde
- 5,000 Gold reward from treasure map is too little.

And other dumb stuff. Some people are complaining for the sake of complaining.

But for how long?

I keep pointing out that they had to take moments aside to address story concerns at a panel outside of Blizzcon for a reason. Before The Burning of Teldrasill only hardcore nerds cared about the narrative direction of the story. Now the wider audience is knocking at the door asking what the hell's going on.

Seems to me the story cinematics are here to help tell the story of Saurfang. They’re investing a lot into him.

Whether or not the next one of these vignettes is about Saurfang, I expect it will come out around 8.2. No sooner.

I'm not talking about those full CGI short movies. I'm talking about compiling in-game cinematics (like they did for Argus) or doing a trailer akin to other raid trailers. This one was kinda weak. Maybe they are preparing a proper one for the actual raid release. I also expect the raid itself to have some cinematics attached to it, and that will be way before 8.2.

I'm not really expecting more full CGI cinematic. Even Lost Honor caught me totally by surprise. I won't complain if we get them, thought.

I would like to say eat shit, but for blizzard shills like you guys, you would just ask for extra.

It is true, you can only drag something through the mud for so long before people ask you to leave it there. But faction loyalty is a strange thing, I don't much care for WoW lore anymore but I still care for the Horde oddly enough. I want to see what happens to the guys I care for and if we finally get to win. I am sure Alliance folks get a similar feeling.

Can this be milked forever? As I've said, no. But they can do it for quite a while and I think they will try so strap yourselves in weather you like it or not.

PS. And before someone thinks this is just my imagination and Blizzard isn't going full hog on faction strife... just look at the commercials for BfA, all of them are about faction pride mattering. This is the ace Blizzard is banking on right now and I don't think it is just for this expansion.

GCD and not making the artifact traits into talents for 110+ was the biggest mistake Blizzard ever made going forward from Legion. Such a missed opportunity. Sad!

Blizzard should have moved the level 100 talent row to 105, and added a new 120 talent row. They could then use it to add/return some missed goods.

-------------------------

On another note, the Lightforged finally did something, but only Horde can see it, and they are stopped by a bonafide Deus Ex Machina.

Doing the Horde incursion on Drustvar, the final quest is all about facing a huge Lightforged counter-attack. The Lightforged appear out of nowhere in huge numbers, and the events imply they are massacring the Horde, but Rokhan and Master Gadrin throw an overpowered voodoo on you and you stop the lightforged army by yourself.

Except for the weak conclusion, I felt the Lightforged were impressive in that portrayal. They were not only fight back the Horde, but imposing order on Drustval: capturing rogue elementals and witch constructs, purifying Alliance soldiers, working alongside Order of Ember inquisitors. I felt like it could make a pretty cool storyline for Alliance.

That sounds absolutely terrible.

It's like they heard everyone saying "hey this is kind of fucked up" about the Lightforged's Portrayal in the Mag'har Scenario and decided to ignore any of player's concerns and just keep slamming the pedal on "Draenei are the Inquisition, actually."

Whoever the Warhammer fetishist is at Blizzard needs to be fucking stopped.

Oh boy. Incursions with war mode on are SO MUCH FUN. Makes me really love this expac,

War Mode really brings the war to Warcraft during Faction Assaults. Raid-size groups killing each other in the doorsteps of the inquisitors place is the kind of thing I always wanted to see in-game.

It also makes the game finally feel dangerous.

With all due respect Marthen, do you monitor any of the websites other than Scrolls? Because the air is definitely different this time around. It's not about the story, i think thats worse than usual but i realise thats subjective and not something that cant be turned around, its about the whole attitude to the game that the developers and the company itself exude now.

We have top executives from the old guard leaving, content production is waaaaaay down compared to one expansion ago and for the first time ever the public is hearing off Blizzard is being told to cut costs and "be profitable" and now we have the (to my knowledge, correct me if im wrong) first occasion Blizzard has had to publically announce they're cutting off life support for a game. This is very outside modus operandi, they tried VERY hard to make this game work. it got a full rework from the ground up, an extremely pricey esports scene and constant support. Even Diablo 3 was not abandoned and eventually became worthy of the mythical Blizzard name.

And about that reception I mentioned earlier: I monitor 4 relatively major channels outside of here and heres what I've seen as a contrast to normal:

Official forums: Always has been a negative cesspool of poor worded complaints, super fanboys and morons. Nothing has changed on that front but complaints seem more focused to BFA now.

Mmo-Champion: Less uninformed morons but shitty moderation policies so more trolls stick around. Usually super fanboy territory. "Don't like it then leave" is the go-to response to any complaint. Atmosphere has skewwed a LOT more negative since BFA.

Wow Reddit: Cynical but memey atmosphere. Seemed relatively balanced in negative to positive thread ratio prior to BFA. Now full frontal Blizzard hatred territory. Change has been so drastic mods are trying to find a way to bring back some positivity.

Wowhead forums: Relatively unknown in comparison to the other 3. Some uninformed opinions but little hostility, probably mostly due to obscurity. Opinion on the game rarely surfaced there before but now its quite negative.

Overall, things are not good and If Hots is anything to go by it is a worrying trend indeed and i find it sad how many people seem to be dismissing BFA complaints as either "its been worse" or the ever annoying mainstay "Well im having fun." as though a shitty unbacked opinion adds more than a reasoned complaint.

I reiterate: This is not just a bad expansion, it is a bad expansion in the midst of a lot of company turmoil. This is not just a fuckup, its a fuckup thats happened because things are changing at Blizzard. And that should worry you.

Krainz, you and I are never going to agree on story complaints to say the least. I think Tel'drassil is the worst writing Blizzard has written into the modern game and your signature is your signature so let's not do that.

Instead i'll focus on the other stuff and just say its very dismissive to paint the core community as only caring about raids. Its for more accurate to say theyve zeroed in on class design and why shouldnt they" its the core the entire game rests on and its fucking horrible right now. EVERYTHING is worse if your class isn't good. Well unless you only do pet battles, i guess those people are fine?

I'm 3/8 Mythic and 1800 in Rated 2v2. I've tested all DPS specs during late beta and only a few of them were boring to me.

Enhancement, one of the most complained about, felt really fun to play with.

I main Frost DK and Fury Warrior and am having a blast.

Fun and enjoyment is subjective, as you just said in the beginning of the quote.

EDIT: take a look at WoW Insider and The Last Codex Discord, for instance. There are a lot of people in those places who are mostly excited for new Warfronts. They also don't seem to see that much of an issue with class design that the horrid bunch of entitled redditors/mmochampion users/official forum posters do.

I have also noticed that even a lot of the usual "White Knight" WoW streamers and vloggers are becoming more openly hostile to the game as it stands in BFA.
