I do not see God as an active participant in creation. I think it is easier to understand him as a powerful observer on the Universe. Someone who wanted things to be governed by the natural norms and approached with reason and logic, rather than selfishly exert his own beliefs and interests on other conscious beings. Believers and non-believers always make him sound so arrogant and I just don't think that would be the case.
