(It'd have to be a LOT more strategic to accomdate every single combination of class and spec in the game without gimping one too hard).

In the comic, naga interrupt Onyxia's ritual that split Varian. The naga on Alcaz isle are likely the beginnings of that idea.

I can't remember exactly where I got the impression from (possibly rpg) but wasn't Varian held on the island for some period of time before Onyxia's ritual? If so, that could tie into a "scenario" quite nicely.
