Here we guess who will survive all the events of GoT (so this is about the show only) and then years later we can come back and see who was right.

So to clarify, the question is which show characters will be alive when the smoke clears and the final credits roll. If a character you think is important is not included feel free to mention them in the comments.

That's about it, it's a fairly simple thread, I'll post my own thoughts a bit later.

Ned's kids are safe, I'd say. They will end up changed significantly, but they'll be alive.

Gendry still needs to sex up Arya once she's old enough. Maybe he's rowing straight to Braavos.

I expect Dany to survive, as well as Tyrion. Jamie and Cersei might end up strangling each other, Babylon 5-style.

Everyone else is fair game.

There, only 20 spots so some had to take a hike and I am sure I'll get flamed for my choices but I was mostly led by importance and length of tenure in the show (which is why Pycelle made if for example).

Anyway the poll is not even that important but the discussion and anyone can be mentioned that way.

Realistically spoken most of them will survive. George likes to kill off characters, but he rarely kills chars that actually matter. That's why you've got hundreds of minor people showing up just for him to kill them off on the spot.

Also this is, like, the third major thread about this franchise, can we at least label it as such?

I'd consider John Snow to be a Schrodinger's character as well at this point, but I grant you that would spoil the end of book five.

He killed Robert Baratheon, Ned Stark, Khal Drogo, Rob Stark, Catelyn Stark(?), King Joffrey (rest his soul), the Red Viper, the Mountain (kinda), Lord Mormont and Ygritte off the top of my head, all of which could be considered 'important.'

Martin kills off 'important' characters all the time. What you mean is that he rarely kills characters whose narrative purpose has not yet been exhausted.

I thought about phrasing it like that but it's not just those. Many of these characters have been important in the past but are just baggage or catalysts for the story right now (Robert Baratheon, The Red Viper, The Mountain, Lord Mormont (?)) or have otherwise no importance by themselfs but by how they connect to past shenanigans. That's fine for establishing a universe (in fact the only reason i'm here at all is, basically, Game Theories (pun intended) because the universe is AWESOME for tinfoil hat theories BECAUSE of it's rich history), but that not always makes a character necessarily important for the present. Out of that list the only ones i'd call important for the current story would be Robert and Ned Stark because the former's death and the latter's incompetence have helped start a war (and the former's incompetence and the latter's death didn't much help matters, now that i think about it). Everyone else is either passive, replaceable or just kinda there - part of a living, breathing universe, but no world shakers. Let's take a look at two examples of your list - The Mountain and The Red Viper. If you exchange Gregor for any brute under Tywins commando you wouldn't even have to change the story. Make him unknown and The Red Viper has nothing to do anymore... but even he is not all that important. His main function in the story up until his death (not counting crackpot theories until proven correct) was to fail to win Tyrion's trial. ANYONE could have lost against the Mountain. Cut the Mountain and you can still insert a brute, and cut the trial altogether - nothing changes because Jaime is still going to free him. (Yeah yeah i know Cleganebawl may be a thing. Personally not buying it. Gurm is vastly overrated and people think he plans ahead waaaaay more than he does. He's an awesome, amusing, enjoyable guy in interviews, i LOVE listening to him and when he bothers to remember what he wrote beforehand he's a terrific world builder... but he sucks at storytelling.)

Stannis dead, Cersei dead, Melisandre dead, Snow somewhat dead, Tommen dead, Daario never even alive, Daenerys dead, Tyrion dead, Roose immortal but dead, the dragons dead, Jorah dead, Varys dead, Pycelle dead and Littlefinger definitely dead. Pretty much Arya is the only one guaranteed to make it out alive.

With Gurm's humor i can also see Littlefinger surviving them all.

Littlefinger is dead. Every house that's had the misfortune of holding Harrenhal has died out.

So I think I've made some bold predictions:

-Arya and Bran will die. Arya because she is liable to being consumed by vengeance and may die killing someone on her list. Bran will be exhausted by the magic he learns and uses against the white walkers, he will die in some noble sacrifice in that cause.
Sansa and Rickon will live from the Starks, I think the show and the book show that being quiet and smart can mean you slink by while others die. I think that at the end some unlikely people will remain alive, even some who don't deserve it because they managed to stay by the wayside (that is why I voted Pycelle)

-Cersei will live. She will not be unscathed mind you, her children will be dead, she will be broken, irrelevant and alone. It's the worst punishment for her and I think it likely.
Doubly so because in the show the prophecy doesn't speak of her death, only that of her children (which is why I think Tommen and Myrcella will die, despite me not wanting that).


Saying Littlefinger will die is not a bold vote but I do want to say a few words about him. He is one of my favorite characters and I'd love it if he lived but I think he has too much karmic debt to be allowed to live (not impossible either though, given the show's tone). Like Varys I have a sneaky respect for him despite being a bastard because he is so cunning and awesome. Whatever happens I feel he will remain an awesome character and I can't wait to see more of him.

I might comment on my other choices later as well.

I'm pretty sure Arya's on track to betray the Faceless by resuming her old name, and I don't think they're going to take that well.
