Haste World of Warcraft: Before the Storm by Christie Golden

The next Christie Golden novel ships on May 15, 2018. The novel description says:

Quote:
"An all-new, official tie-in novel to Blizzard Entertainment’s critically acclaimed World of Warcraft, from New York Times bestselling author Christie Golden.

Taking place after the climactic events of Shadows of Argus, World of Warcraft: Before the Storm tells the story of what awaits the heroes of the Horde and the Alliance in the wake of their struggle against the demonic Burning Legion."

That’s absolutely exciting. Well-known Characters involved in Shadows of Argus include Khadgar, Velen, Illidan, Turalyon, and Alleria.

What are the odds of Before the Storm filling the role of "War Crimes" as the primer for the next expansion?

Pre-order World of Warcraft: Before the Storm

You can read the BlizzCon 2017 panel transcripts including the World of Warcraft: What's Next panel.

I'm assuming it'll be about Jaina, combining the Blizzcon key art plus Golden writing it.

If you look at the Kindle version it says it's 208 pages, just a bit of trivia.

I've got a feeling this novel will have the same vibe as The Shattering: Prelude to Cataclysm, which is a good thing, because it had political shenanigans.

Is this Blizz's first full novel since the Illidan book (IE, not counting Traveler and Chronicle)? It seems like they really slowed down their publishing when they switched from S&S to Random House.

Actually is RH even publishing this one?

I feel like they slowed down books with WoD really. Amazon says the publisher is Del Rey.

Yep, last one was Illidan.

The delay was a combination of the "switch from S&S to Random House", plus the triumvirate (Metzen/Neilson/Waugh) departing Blizzard Publishing Team in such a short span of time.

Illidan was the last World of Warcraft novel, proper.

The new "Before the Storm" novel is under Del Rey label, but Random House is its parent.

Not going to pre-order, but still pretty jazzed to see a new novel.

Apparently by searching the ISBN you can see its working title was "Lightning Crashes." http://www.randomhouse.com/largeprin...=9780399594090

Golden also tweeted that we'd learn more at Blizzcon, in case anyone didn't think so.

But what about my Final Fantasy/WoW crossover fan fiction?

I don't actually have one, I'm just messing around.

World of Warcraft: Storms of Kul’tiras confirmed?

But seriously, I’m excited for more reading material. I’m still waiting on more short stories for Legion. I need a Tess Greymane or Lorna Crowley story to cleanse me after reading that Nathanos story.

2018 will be a fun year

First we have chronicles in march, then 2 months later a tie in of something else.

So first something amazing, then something "OMG WTF ARE YOU FUCKING DOING BLIZZARD" as usual with these books.

See: Tides of war, Shattering, Illidan, and that trial book.

I wonder what this means for that "Troll Wars" novel? Was it just a placeholder description to throw people off (since both Before the Storm and Lightning Crashes are titles which can be interpreted towards what the expansion might be about).

The Thunder King... and Jaina if Blizzard remembers she absorbed his powers into her staff.

Lightning and thunder figure pretty heavily into a lot of titan stuff in general (especially wherever it dips into specifically Norse-inspired territory.) Shamans too; they toss around earth, water and fire, but calling the wind and hurling lightning are more frequently their go-to thematic "thing."

MyMindWontQuiet said it's still on the discord, but that it's for Dec 2018 now.

It's probably related to Maelstrom and Azshara, we had many references to that and hints.

First were in eye of Azshara dungeon :

Lady Hatecoil

" Can you feel the winds...? They come... for you.... "

King Deepbeard
" I have failed, but my Queen, will not... "
" You are too late... she is... almost here..."

The most interesting line coming from this book title is this one though :

Mistress Sassz'ine

" Not all storms come from the skies ! "

Add to this the multiple Lightning striking in the eye of Azshara dungeon, the wind, and the Wrath of Azshara yelling " Tempest " and such , and you have something related to " before the Storm " without being shamanistic and such.

My first thought when I hear about storms is the Thunder King. Considering his power came from absorbing the "piece" of Aman'thul that was left, I thought we would see Titan shenanigans, but it doesn't make sense. We just saw the "end" of the Titans's story, in a way, and the Pantheon has been decommissioned. THey wouldn't appear again.

Unless is by proxy, either with Wrathion, who might have taken Aman'thul's power from Lei Shen, or Jaina, with her Storm Staff, like IGoD remembered.

What if this novel becomes meta and is actually about Heroes of the Storm?

To quote Thrall in Heroes of the Storm:

I honestly associate it with titan stuff and shamans before I do naga. IGoD bringing up Jaina's thunder-infused staff is an interesting point.

Given that Farondis isn't mentioned as a main character (so far), I don't think we need to take WoW's association with "storms" to be literal. I see it as more a "calm before the storm" novel, but at the same time what is the storm that's supposed to be coming if this takes place just after the Shadows of Argus quest line started? Hmmm.

Is Khadgar associated with storms at all? I honestly don't remember.

Never mind, it's a lead-in for the raid.

Even then, the Restoration Shaman artefact exists.
